2013-2014 University of California - Irvine Application Thread

Has anyone from mid January been accepted yet? Didn't they tell us at 4 weeks they'll call for acceptances and in 5 weeks they'll start emailing out wait lists for our group?

FYI - we had 2 AdCom meetings in late Jan & 2 in early Feb...so you guys should be hearing things soon if you haven't already. Sometimes, due to the holidays, some of the December applicants are a little backlogged into January and this can delay final file reviews.

did anyone else get an email yesterday about financial aid/setting up a UCInetID? do they send this to everyone that adds them to their FAFSA app?

Does anyone know when waitlist movement begins? I committed to a program at another school which begins in mid-june, so is there anything I could do to get off waitlist earlier?

I got the email and submitted a fafsa.

Did you get an email saying you were chosen to submit additional documents?

I did, it said 'we may need additional documents' in all caps haha. but when I went to fill out the form they said they needed, it was from last year, so I'm just going to wait until they update it i guess? I'm alternate listed, but I guess they expect us to fill all this out by the deadlines as well.

Rejection email just a few minutes ago, good luck to those still awaiting news!

Really sorry to hear that. If you don't mind me asking, when were you complete? Just trying to figure out when my own rejection will be sent out...

I was compete in mid September. Good luck to you! Stay positive!

I don't know this thread doesn't have much activity and it's starting to scare me. It's week 5 for me now 🙁

We should spice it up a little then.

FYI -

Applicants are still being reviewed for II's
There are 2 AdCom meetings this week: Weds & Thurs. Weds is voting on applicants interviewed on 1/27.

If people from 1/17 haven't heard back yet, is it probably a waitlist? :/

Pre interview rejection the other day 🙁 gpa: 3.93 mcat: 36. Thought I had a good shot since I've interviewed at some of the other UCs... but I guess I'll have to hope for the others to pull through so I can nab that in state tuition!

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time and providing substantial feedback to almost everyone. Your replies have really been helpful.

I had a question, from a statistical standpoint, if we were given an interview spot at the end of March (second to last I believe) does that decrease the chances of a possible acceptance vs someone who interviewed earlier like early November, all else being equal? Or does the UCI adcom typically give out roughly proportional acceptances for each interview day?

This will most likely be my first interview and I am anxious and nervous of what to expect, I have been reading the replies and they have given me some insight on how the day works.

Hey kwiq - We tend to give out proportional acceptances for each interview day, though occasionally, a given interview group may garner a higher proportion of acceptances. There is certainly not a cap or quota. Statistically, it's much harder to get an II than a post-interview acceptance. Roughly 10% of all applicants are interviewed. Of those who interview, roughly 40-45% are eventually accepted.

Don't be overly nervous on interview day. I know there's a lot on the line, but try and enjoy the experience. We're a school that has students with a really chill vibe, so just go with the flow. The purpose of the interviews is to see if you will fit into the community. Are you poised and professional? Are you confident and comfortable? Are you authentic and genuine? Could I see you as my family member's doctor in the near future? The answers to these questions intersect with--but are more important than--the actual substance of the interview dialogue.

Thanks for giving us an insight into the UCI admissions process!

So if you applied early (In early July) and were put on hold then and there, the admissions committee members won't view your application to make a final decision until much later (as in it's normal for us early applicants to have not heard back yet if we were put on hold). If this is the case, in what order are applications revisited? By order of some priority score?

Update: Early applications that were put on hold for interview are pending review shortly.

I was complete late October and haven't been put on hold... Does that mean rejection? 🙁

that's what I thought, but others posts made me think otherwise. Either way, silence since secondary and its killin me! haha

Does this mean that early applications that haven't been axed yet are the ones that have been put on this unofficial hold? o.o

For those who interviewed, what email address are you supposed to send a picture of yourself to?

Think of the (internal) hold I'm referring to as an interview waitlist that you might not necessarily be aware that you're on.

Do you have an idea of roughly how many OOS people get interviewed and eventually accepted total, directly and off the waitlist? (I saw something like 60 OOS interviewed and 12 matriculated but nothing on total offers actually made)

Did you send anything else besides a photo? (I'm assuming headshot) to the somint email?

I sent my photo last week but I never got a response. Was it like an informal confirmation?

I sent it to [email protected] with just my name and AMCAS ID in the body of the email. I got an email 30 minutes later saying thank you and that it was added to my file. It wasn't one of those automatic reply emails either, so yeah I'd say pretty informal. Maybe it just wasn't a busy day for them so they replied? haha

@Gaboon Do you know if the waitlist is ranked? I remember during my interview the dean said something regarding a high hold list but it seems like everyone has just reported a regular alternate list in this thread so far.

^ Same here. Even if we do get an invite, will it be for a position on the waitlist?

What is the typical waitlist movement for irvine? (Do they tend to overaccept over their class of 104 and not pull many of the waitlist?) Does all movement happen after may 15th? Is the same true of prime applicants?

It's been pretty quiet in this thread this week. Any rejections or interview invites as of late (particularly for early applicants who haven't heard anything yet)?

To my understanding, based on info on this thread, UCI does not conduct interviews for exclusively waitlist positions. According to a current UCI medical student (@Gaboon ) as general rule of thumb "about 1/3 of each interview group of about 40 are directly offered acceptance."

I just received an interview invite. It's not until April 8th though so I'm worried about how late in the process it is. Are there still spots open here? Do I still have a shot at getting in? I'm excited about this school though and would love to go here!

Congrats! I really hope I get one too =[ It seems like they are handing out their last interview.

Congrats! Were there any other dates available or do they just assign you one?

Congrats! If that's not too private, what were your stats and complete date?

At my interview date, they told us that they evaluate everyone at each interview date the same - so no matter when you interview you should have the same chances.
