ACCEPTED!!! So stoked right now! Got an email this morning, it's surreal right now.

Waitlisted. San Diego was in my top 2 choices as well. 🙁

Congrats to all who were accepted today.

+1 Dead silence post-secondary since 8/1. I'm started to get a little down about it. Like nearly everyone here, it's my first choice. I want some loveeeee.

Waitlisted this morning, as well. Definitely was one of my top choices, so a little disappointing. Congrats to everybody who go accepted! 🙂

I submitted the exact same secondary autobiography here as I did for Vanderbilt, all the way back on 8/10. Got interviewed at Vanderbilt, but crickets here.

Best hopes to those waitlisted, and congratulations to those accepted!!!

When did you all interview? My group was told we would hear back on the 22nd, but no email yet

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'M DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interview 9/24

Silence since submitting in early August. Let's hope another round of interviews goes out soon. I would love to take a trip back to SD.

wondering the same thing! has anyone been put on hold yet post-secondary?

Congrats to everyone with an acceptance! Pyrrion, I want you to know that I absolutely love reading what you write in your MDapp. Keep them coming 🙂

Finished secondary in mid july... No news at all. Does UCSD have a history of doing silent rejections?

Looking at last year's thread, it doesn't look like they hand out pre-interview rejections right away. Most people who commented between September and November were put on hold. Then there was a huge wave of rejections mid-December.

They will definitely let you know one way or another (or at least it says so on their admissions website). I think not hearing anything yet is better than officially being placed on hold.

True. But I don't think anyone has been placed on "hold" yet this year, so pretty much besides interviews, no one has heard anything yet post-secondary.

I'll second that! It's nice to hear another applicant's opinion of each school. Some of the posts were hilarious and made me laugh.

Seriously. I live in sd. Haha. I would love to just pop in the admin office and say "what's up?!"

I had one earlier this month. I'm from Washington State. Waiting to hear back my decision today!

Congratulations and good luck! But what I think they meant was has anyone received an II recently, has anyone?

San Diego indicated that they don't do rolling admissions (right?) so I felt comfortable submitting my secondary last week (still within 1 month deadline).

Wrong. People have already received acceptances.

From the UCSD FAQ section:

22. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to applying earlier or later in the process?
There is no advantage in terms of your chances of being accepted. All applicants who submit their AMCAS application by November 1, 2009 will be considered for admission. No preference is given to any applicant based on their application date or interview date. However, our Recruitment and Admissions Committee reviews files in order of completion. Therefore, the earlier your application is complete with us, the earlier you will hear from us regarding your status.

Admissions decisions are made on a "rolling" basis. Typically we will start to offer acceptances in late October. However, whether your interview is in late September or late March, the Recruitment and Admissions Committee will still complete the evaluation of your application in the same manner. Students interviewing at any time throughout the year may receive an offer of acceptance as their "initial decision".

so according to nabilsmail on the panic thread, he called the admissions over the phone and was told that if you don't hear back immediately after submitting secondary, you are placed on hold (some might get invited later on in the cycle). You supposedly have a priority score that will determine how likely you might get an II.

AHHH , no, thats not what I meant. I simply called them and they told me I was on hold. HOWEVER, he also mentioned that there is no rejection, just holds for now , however, evryone has a priority score and my priority score would not receive an interview. If you haven't heard back yet you could possibly be on hold with a decent priority score or still in the running, good luck

what does it say on your online status page? And if you're not on hold would they just reject you?

thanks for clearing this up! did the hold status ever show up on your status page?

+1, I'd like to know if they do "silent holds" or update your status. UC Davis let me know I was on hold for now, but I'm not sure if all UC schools will do that.

Also, does anyone have an idea of what criteria determines your priority score? It seems weird that nabilesmail has a low enough priority score to go on hold with a 34 MCAT and 3.6gpa. Those numbers are solid, and certainly reflect matriculant averages.

So for those that hasnt hear back yet post secondary, who wants to call tomorrow and find out how likely they will get an interview? Hahaha

These are silent holds- they don't me these decisions dont go out for a while. Wasn't on status

so these are silent holds. They will eventually do actual holds that will show up on our status page and reject people that are not put on the actual holds?

I was complete late August, and all this talk of holds is making me very sad. 🙁

I was complete late July, so I'm definitely thinking that I'm out of the running now🙁

II!!! Complete late August. Super average stats. IS.

I just received the secondary like yesterday (applied 2 months or so ago).....

I have average stats too 3.65/32/good research (1 abstract 3 posters 1 maybe pub)/ORM/CA. Is it worth it at this point to do this secondary? It looks like it will take a while to do D:

I think if they sent you one that means you are considered. I think at this point they've gone through all the high stats people and would like to see more diverse applicants.

well that is optimistic i guess. This was just after I went around and told everyone UCSD rejected me pre-secondary lol

What do you think made you stand out (seems like we got roughly same #s but your gpa is slightly higher) and receive an II?? Congrats! 😀

Hey guys, I have a technical question about the secondary. I'm having trouble uploading my passport photo. Every time I try to upload the image I get an error message, "ERROR - wrong file type; photo not loaded". Did anyone else have this problem?

It's in JPEG format. I've tried re-formatting in Photoshop and re-exporting with no success. Is there a secret file size limit I don't know about? I know I could wait until tomorrow and contact their admissions office but figured it'd be worth a shot asking around SDN. Thanks!

hey guys,

i had to stop filling out a lot of apps because of some family issues, and ucsd was one of the schools with the one month deadline. it has now passed, do you guys think i can send in the app still, or is this a hard and fast rule?

thanks so much for the help.

I don't really know... but I would suggest writing to someone to explain and ask them? hopefully they'd take into account extenuating circumstances and it's better than just not getting the chance!

Just call tomorrow and ask. That's the best way to find out. Also, even if it's ok, the more time that goes by, the less ok it will be.
