2013-2014 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it just me or I feel like barely any II's have gone out so far? Comparing to past threads, I don't see large batches of II's coming out yet?
to be honest, it seems like, compared to last year, all schools have been proceding much slower

Invite!!!!! OOS, Complete 7/25.

Very excited!!! First MMI.

Our interview format for this cycle will be "Multiple Mini Interviews" (MMIs). In the MMI format, candidates will rotate through 8 "stations" where they will be given a written vignette discussing a problem or an ethical dilemma. The candidate has about 2 minutes to read the vignette and think before entering the station. Eight minutes are spent discussing the situation portrayed in the vignette.

Secondary submitted 🙂 the waiting begins :/

UCSD is my first choice, but I have no clue what they're looking for in the autobio 🙁

Congrats! Which date did you pick?

I picked September 24th. Seemed early enough and I think I'd go crazy with two interviews on opposite sides of the country in the same week.

I am so happy to have an II from them! Not sure what to expect from the MMI. Anyone know a good place for information on them? I've read a few articles by various sources.

I spent a good amount of time trying to prepare for the MMI interview I had last week and I can say that it was largely a huge waste of time and a source of unnecessary stress haha. As long as you're fairly comfortable speaking with strangers and can hold a conversation for like 8 minutes, you'll be fine! All they're really looking for is:
1) is this applicant a robot?
2) is this applicant a psychopath?

If you're confident that you're neither of those things, you'll smoke the interviews!

That's reassuring. Glad I'm not a sociopathic cyborg...at least I don't think I am...

That's not what they're looking for. They're looking for who would make a good doctor.

2 years ago I attended Davis' first ever day of MMI. I'm not a robot, nor am I a psychopath. I received no correspondence for 5.5 months, when I was finally rejected

Yeah, you're 100% right; and sorry if I offended. Obviously, the main purpose of MMI is for the adcom to evaluate whether or not you would make a good doctor. I was more responding to the question about how to prepare for MMI. Personally, I don't think there's much to prepare for, other than trying to show them that you're a normal person who doesn't have problems speaking with others and dealing with real-life scenarios.

To be fair, even after the interview other factors matter in garnering an acceptance. Its not based just on the interview.

No offense taken. Based on the thoughtfulness of this post, I predict you will make a great doc 🙂

Point taken.

Anyone have their "interview" line missing from their status check page before getting an interview? Mine seems to have gone missing as of last night...

Similar stats, OOS. Same thing happened to me last night. :scared:

Can you list out exactly what the status page says for you?

Mine says:

Received Amcas Application
Completed Secondary
Payment Submitted
Hold for Interview --
Final Decision --

I feel like I didn't have a "hold for interview" before...but I'm not sure

Thanks ckb.

Lol we are so neurotic.

You are welcome and yes we are. If it was any other school, I probably wouldn't be this crazy. Something is coming. Let's hope it's in our favor. ッ

Same exact before and after for me! Crossing my fingers for us 🙂

My interview line is missing too...hrmmmm

I'm honestly a bit amazed that you all noticed that change. I would have never realized anything was different had nobody said anything.

And just when I was getting all excited!!!

I bet they're doing some technical fixes. I received an invite this week but there was no way to schedule the MMI on the status page as let directions. Called in and the bug was fixed within 10 minutes.

MAYBE we're ALL getting interviews

Sorry guys, but it must have changed for everyone. I have that on mine and I haven't even gotten a secondary from them.

I still havent heard from them!! I did the SSN verification and still waiting...getting nervous. Can any post their secondary questions?

The very first post on this thread has what's on the secondary.

The dual degree options it asks you to pick near the end are just to see if you're interested in anything else right? It won't actually put me in the MD/MPH or MD/MS applicant pool correct?

Just curious, how long is it taking folks to receive a secondary? UCSD acknowledged receipt of my app on the 19th and asked for the SSN, gave it to them right away, I got the second email about setting up an account on the 21st, but haven't heard from them again. Kinda slow it seems for UCSD, looks like I'm not getting a secondary? Any thoughts/insight/advice? This is definitely my number 1 choice school 🙁

I was verified 8/7 and got my secondary 8/15 I think.

I was verified 7/31 and got my secondary 8/8. but as much as we can try to see patterns, the process seems completely random xD

Yup. For example it took UCI an extra week to give me a secondary compared to UCSD. Don't worry about it too much.

Anyone have any info on this? I'm worried that I applied to MD/PHD/MPH now :/

The UCs are working soooooo slowly compared to other schools across the country. Annoying

II this afternoon!
IS, complete 8/11.
Good luck, everyone!

Just got an II today!

You guys know how our status page layout changed a while ago? I may be paranoid, but do you guys think only the people who are "hold" for interview had that status page layout change to now only "hold for interview:"? Or did everyone had that layout change including people who just recently received interview invite?

I just want to comment that last cycle, many people were actually put on "hold for interview" but didn't get an email or didn't show up on their status page until a month or two later.

Mine says "hold for interview". Can people that got an interview confirm whether or not their page said "hold for interview" or something different before they were invited for interview?

Mine say "Hold for Interview"

Don't really think it means anything ...

Although it'd be nice to proven otherwise. 😛

I have an interview and underneath "MMI Schedule" it says "Hold for Interview". I think it may just be a placeholder, I wouldn't look too much into it. I can't attest to what it said prior to the interview invite, because I don't remember 😛

Do you have a date next to where it says hold for interview?
