I'm gonna be there too in early february. I had my first MMI at NYU and it's really not bad -- kind of fun! Someone posted a list of resources in one the forums awhile back that I found incredibly helpful in preparing. I think I still have it on my computer, so PM if you want it or have any other questions!
 
I have an interview set for 1/23 - would anyone want to switch for their 1/30 interview date?

I was on hold in November and got an II in mid-December. I'm not sure what the last date UCSD interviews is, but I think I might still be able to access the calendar to see if dates are open.

It would be great if you let us know the dates available and the last day of interviews
 
On the portal, 4 dates are available to me (2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 2/27). When I first got my interview in December, 2/11 was the last date available to me, so they are releasing more as time goes on. I'm not sure when the last interview date is.

For those who have interviewed: the interview email says the day is done at 2:30pm. How did you get from campus to the airport -- is a cab the only way or is there some kind of shuttle?

Would it be possible to make a 5:30 flight with no trouble?
 
You could definitely make a 5:30 flight, SD security check goes really quick. Cab would be easy, you could probably save money with some of the shuttles like http://www.ezrideshuttle.com/ or something along those lines though. Not sure if they would pick you up directly from the school but give em a call and see.

Thanks!! That's really helpful. And it seems from the thread that the consensus is that the Sheraton is the best deal/closest to the school? Has anyone had any luck with student hosting? The email says we'll get info on potential student hosts 2 weeks before our interview date, but it makes me nervous to wait so long to plan.
 
The Sheraton is definitely the closest and probably the best deal. Its just a little walk up Villa La Jolla Drive to the school.

On your applicant status page, there should be a hosting request section.
 
Waiting to be rejected by another CA school. Not so sunny here when it comes to medical school.

No I'm just venting my frustration at the process, in particular at the CA schools. Only hope left for CA is sd, irvine, and Linda. All likely gonna be rejections because these schools all have the same bs reasons for rejection and same bs goals and same bs values and same bs mission statements and did I mention their bs? Ohh yeah I did. Rant over.
 
It took me 3 application cycles to finally get an interview here. Keep trying

Lol I thought u were gonna say 3 to get accepted, but 3 for interview well at least my application is a nice donation to there program
 
didn't san diego say that wed hear something by now for the large number of us who were put on waitlist?

They said they wouldn't contact the wait list again until May, then they'd check for people still interested and accept updates at that point

I think he means interview waitlists. They said they'd re-review those applications in late January. I'm assuming that will start soon and we'd hear maybe February.


I sincerely hope you get an interview from that re-review, medschoolnyname. You do deserve it.

Thanks a lot bamanicole, and I've been pissed off lately, evident through my posts, but I don't want to come off as a person who feels entitled to be accepted or interviewed. Wish u luck as well.
 
Anyone know if the dinner after the free clinic tour is on UCSD or on us? Read both cases in past interview feedback entries. Do people really dress casually (per email) or more business casual? Are we driven to the free clinics or should we have a car? Since breakfast isn't provided on interview day do you guys recommend eating beforehand or at the cafeteria? Thanks in advance! I know, minute details but I would greatly appreciate answers from anyone who has been through the process.
 
We had to pay for the dinner after the free clinic tour. You really can dress casually--I think there was one guy in shirt and tie. It was a pretty quick for us, in and out. The student who gave the tour emailed everyone beforehand to see if anyone would drive--I rented a car, so I volunteered to drive. We had 3 cars and parking wasn't too bad. It seems like the dinner after the tour is usually at a place called the Convoy Tofu House, which is a Korean place. One thing I'd recommend is that unless you are really wild about Korean food, try and get your group to go to a different place for dinner.

I ate at the McDonald's on Nobel St. before the interview, and I would really recommend getting something to eat beforehand, because lunch isn't until noon. There's a café called Club Med in the MET building (Medical Education-Telemedicine), the building in which interviews are held. If I did it again I'd probably eat there, though I never went in to see what kinds of things they had. I assume it's kind of like a Starbucks.

Self-pay, and dinner options will depend on which clinic you go to (I went to downtown clinic, so we ate near there). I went to the tour in jeans and t-shirt where we carpooled to the clinic, half of us with the tour leader and half with someone who volunteered. I recommend eating at least a light breakfast; Club Med was decent enough. You can also have a chance to chitchat with your fellow applicants.
 
Hi all I spoke to someone in admissions to say I might be in the area later this spring. When I mentioned that I was put on hold in November, they said they would be making final decisions on interview invites for that group this week, so we should find out then. Crossing my fingers!

Ohh man I'm getting that sick feeling, it's probably a rejection for most of us, dam will pray for myself and all u guys and gals.
 
Reading through the email with detailed info on interview day, I starting cracking up when they specifically mention not posting links on SDN...

It's too bad there's no free clinic tours offered around my interview date! I was looking forward to that.
 
Just got rejected from UCSD via email from Brian. Complete back in mid September. GPA>3.6, MCAT>39, ORM, OOS. Was put on hold back in November. Lets hope that someone who is still on hold gets an II instead of all of us getting rejected. Good luck everyone!!
 
Yay more freaking rejections. Ohh where is the one school willing to give me a chance. Damn it

My brother, also an alum 31/3.97, hasn't gotten the rejection yet (also placed on hold) ... wonder if there's hope for him haha Nevermind he got the axe D:


Well, guess I'll be leaving San Diego within the next year or so...

Also rejected today...was one of my top choices 🙁 anyone know if they are receptive to appeals? Based on the email, I'm guessing not, but can it really hurt at this point to try?
 
The admissions office was true to their word! Also on hold in November and got the axe today (32, 3.6, IS). Those 58 students who will get to enjoy La Jolla sunshine are a lucky bunch. 🙂 wishing everyone good luck on the rest of your app cycle!
 
Did you guys get rejected earlier or just now? No rejection here (yet) and not on hold either. Complete September.
