2013-2014 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The admissions office was true to their word! Also on hold in November and got the axe today (32, 3.6, IS). Those 58 students who will get to enjoy La Jolla sunshine are a lucky bunch. 🙂 wishing everyone good luck on the rest of your app cycle!

Sorry to hear about the rejections guys. But what did you mean by those "58" students?

aaaaaaaand rejected. Time to grab my bottle of whiskey

Also rejected UCSD alum, 31/3.84

My brother, also an alum 31/3.97, hasn't gotten the rejection yet (also placed on hold) ... wonder if there's hope for him haha

Well, guess I'll be leaving San Diego within the next year or so...

Nope, just got the axe minutes ago

Sorry if this has already been answered or posted (tried searching but it didn't work).

Does anyone have the stats from the USNWR for accepted vs interviewed??

Mine was post-secondary after receiving a hold email. I believe that is what most of these rejections are.

anyone who got put on "hold" still alive out there?

Gotcha. Thanks for that!

Actually scrolling through it looks like that is the majority of the rejections. Seems there are probably a lot more to come for those pre/post secondary and post-interview. Eek!

Though I do have to wonder why those weren't sent with these batches as well...

Sorry if this has been asked already, but does any past or future interviewee have lodging recommendations?

I stayed at the sheraton across from campus, but it was over $200. No breakfast included. Parking for the hotel was $13. I should have asked if there were any special rates for UCSD SOM interviewees ( I think for the UC Irvine interview applicants get a discount at the ayres hotel nearby). It was a very comfortable night, 10-15 minute walk to the medical school.

EDIT:
interviewed 1/16
waitlisted 1/28

I got a bunch of requests for the MMI resources I mentioned and thought I'd share with everyone. Some are more useful than others, but the practice scenarios from Calgary were particularly relevant to my NYU MMI experience.

Here's the link: http://www.pdx.edu/careers/sites/www.pdx.edu.careers/files/MMI information_0.pdf

Good luck all! Anybody on 2/11, see ya there!

Also check out MMI for the Mind prepbook if you need more practice with MMIs. I found the book approaches the MMIs from a framework instead of just giving you answers to scenarios which was very helpful. Bought mine from Amazon.

Anyone know when UCSD stops interview this year? It seems like they interviewed into late march last year.

Hahaha rejected for a second time this year. Once in December, and again today…

The interview days available online only go until the end of February. Although it's possible that they only show that far now and could extend the calendar later, I think that it actually is the end of interview season because with the MMIs they see a lot more people at a time so they may not need to go into March like they did with traditional interviews last year. Anyway, that's just speculation on my part.

Just phoned up to ask about an appeals process for UCSD. Sounds like nothing like that exists. Anyone else tried this or heard a similar story?

Man they don't even take updates from the wait list until may, I think they would ban you for life if you tried to appeal something.

Someone on my interview day was rejected, appealed and was offered an interview a week later when someone dropped out. So even if it's not an "official" policy, can't hurt to give it a shot!

I think Lazyluke is that guy lol, especially if your interview was yesterday (Tuesday)

Any new interview invites or is UCSD done handing them out?

Also, are most interviews to make up their wait lists at this point?

It looks like the last MMI date one could have signed up for was 2/18.
So by the online calendar, interview season is over, sorry :/

(the reason I can see the calendar is because I'm an MSTP candidate, so even though I have access to it, I never had to reserve an MMI interview day and can still see all the available possibilities)

They might still be scheduling interviews on an individual basis and just not have it up on the website. You should really call them if you want a definitive answer and not just someone's guess on an online forum, lol.. Fingers crossed!

I know someone above said there were interview dates open in late Feb when he/she received an II a few weeks ago. But unfortunately, it seems like late Feb will be UCSD's last interview dates.
