2013-2014 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II this morning. I'm trying to decide if I should attend the interview so I have a couple questions for you guys.

Is it late in the cycle for CU and are they only interviewing for waitlist positions? How likely is it for me to get my interview rescheduled to a Saturday? Thanks!

CU doesn't interview for the waitlist. Every interview invite is sent out with the intention of accepting to the current class. That said, I interviewed in late January 2013 and was waitlisted and eventually accepted. And it's not very likely they will be able to reschedule to Saturday. If I remember correctly, they only interview certain days of the week

As mentioned above, CU doesn't interview "for the waitlist". Everyone interviewed has a fair shot at the class... that's why most people who are accepted are not notified until March, after they've had an opportunity to evaluate everyone. Also, I'm pretty sure there are only five interview days left, and all are Fridays.

so cu is nearly done with interviews? not holding out much hope for my state school at this point :\

OH. MY. GOD.

Just received the acceptance phone call. This is one of my top choices... I started crying a little bit, but thankfully Dr. Grenardo was super nice about it and just laughed and congratulated me. 🙂
I could not be more excited, especially since I'm OOS. Time to go party!!! :soexcited:

Hey guys, I'm just trying to make the decision of whether to go to this interview or not. I would love nothing more than to live in Denver and attend CU but is it worth the hefty price tag? I have an acceptance at a school with a 67k cost of attendance but I like CU a lot.

I'd say go for it! You never know if you might receive a scholarship to bring down the cost.

How was the interview day like? Going in this Friday. Super nervous.

Hi moisne, It was awesome! Really relaxed day after the early interviews, lunch is with students, and there are very thorough presentations about financial aid and other important info throughout the morning and before leaving. It was pretty cold when I went, but the campus tour was amazing. Interviews themselves were pretty relaxed I thought, I had two nice/unstressful conversations.

Who were the interviewers? Staff or students?

Thanks! Hope we both get in

Some ppl get two physicians, but I had one ms3 and one physician. Most ppl I talked to seemed to be paired with folks with similar field interests to our own (I got a pediatrician and a global health/Spanish speaking med student)

I had a License Certified Social Worker and a retired general surgeon from Colorado Springs... I loved both of them and the interviews were conversational for the most part. The rest of the day was great! I wish I didn't fall in love with the school because I feel like no one I know personally ever gets in.

I had two MD interviewers. A pedatrician and a family medicine physician. From what I experienced, most people had 1 interviewer that was asking a bunch of questions and another that was more conversational. The key to the interview is to be polite, since they might interrupt you while you speak. The interview with the pedatrician was a little stressful but I answered all the questions to the best of my abilities while blending my activities. Know you amcas activities very well. The 2nd interviewer was very conversational and talked more about where I come from. Don't worry! The interview day was very structured!

Will there/is there a facebook page set up for the students who have already been accepted for the class of 2018?

There is but the only members so far are those who created it, who are those new student leaders that we met from interview day, so I dunno if it it was self invite or we wait until march or something, ha.

Website updates can lag and are fairly inconsistent. My "ty for interviewing" showed up almost a month later. Then again, i havent been accepted yet. Heh

Interviewed today and felt like I did pretty well. One was conversational and one liked to challenge my answers and would cut me off. For those still waiting for an interview, they told us they would be interviewing the next four Fridays --- Feb 21 being the last date. The remaining acceptances should go out roughly two weeks after that date. There are still spots to be given out and you won't be just interviewing for the waitlist. I'm IS, non-trad, and my LizzyM is 71 with two advanced degrees.

Thanks for the info! Did they mention how many spots were still open?

They did not. They said that the committee meets to give your overall application/interview a score out of 100 points. If you scored 95 or higher, you were offered immediate acceptance and it turned into recruiting. Otherwise, they put the rest of the class together at the end.

Today interviewed. One interview - I talked about my "unique" (that I share with many Chinese girls) experience where they try to abort/abandon/kill girls back in the 1980-1990's... the second interview was with a MD - we spent 15 minutes or so talking about... dogs, kids, etc. The MD asked me a bunch of questions that I didn't quite fully understand so I was pretty sure I didn't respond correctly. Got a call an hour ago (4 hours after interview/tour) thinking they wanted to reject me immediately. Accepted 🙂 Class of 2018!

congrats! that has got to be the fastest acceptance ever! 🙂

Congrats to those recently accepted!! Does anyone have a link for the FB group? I'm not sure if I will be attending, since I'm still waiting on other schools.

Has anyone received the acceptance package/mail? Is it just an acceptance letter or does it have information regarding track choice or anything else?

I'd like the link too. 95% chance I'm attending.

Its an acceptance letter with a residency form and offer accept form ("CU contract"). No mention about tracks if I remember correctly.

Would it be okay if I join but not 100% sure I will be attending?
Hahaha I'm pretty sure I have no authority in saying if you can join or not 🙂

I haven't joined yet because I didn't know if it was something the admins invite me to or not, but I was gonna wait until march ish when all the decisions go out to see.

Do you mind sharing if you are IS or OOS applicant?

I submitted this app on the day it was due and an update letter yesterday.
How late does Colorado interview? My chances are hot, I know.
