2013-2014 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dear Michigan,

I don't want to 'go blue' or 'tweet chat'. I just want an II. Stop emailing me with your stupid promos.

Kindest regards
Haha, they are actually pretty helpful though. It's nice to be able to get a sense of different perspectives on various informal questions raised throughout the tweet chat.

I definitely can appreciate the apprehension you feel though when getting a false-alarm email. Keep your head up and don't lose hope!

Someone called it! 2:22 at last 🙂

Twitter:
@UMichMedAdmiss: For today only-10:10 Tuesday will become 2:22 Tuesday in order to include more interview offers! #GoBlueMed

It can't come soon enough. Michigan is my top choice and I'd probably have a mental breakdown if I didn't get in haha

👍 dream school right here...hopefully we'll be celebrating good news this time next week :xf:

Ahhh. I've only been complete like a week so I doubt I'll be included but a girl can dream.

Wow, they (perhaps unintentionally) took my suggestion!!

Hahaha, this school really knows the way to my heart.

Alas, doesn't look like I will get an II this time even they're operating on Eastern time.

Have they started rejecting yet? Still sitting on under review status.

Got an email around 230 this afternoon, it was on my phone and i couldn't see anything but the new mail notification. Heart pounding, i rush out of my meeting as soon as it's over... and find that I'm on hold at nymc.

None here... but no rejection yet... what a long limbo process.

+1. Considering they've been so transparent about the process, I'm surprised there's been no rejections or holds reported yet. Maybe they wait til later in the cycle to start rejecting people?

I remember some time ago they had a "tweet" saying that they were starting to close files... but I'm not sure if that was officially (i.e., sending out rejections) or just internally. I kind of thing it was just an internal process, since I haven't seen anyone report a rejection yet.

Yeah I saw that too--which is why I've been on pins & needles every T/R, waiting to see if my file has been closed...

I think I'd rather they reject me pre-II now than in February/March, but that's just me. I hate holding out hope when there is none. :/

Agreed. I'm surprised nobody on this thread was given an II today! I thought it was going to be a big day based off of Twitter.

I actually got one rejection today (which isn't TOO bad since I was expecting two), but I keep holding out hope for UMich. The rejections hurt, but it's also a bit of a relief after hearing nothing for months and finally having closure.

UM was my ugrad school, so it's going to be a painful "no" to get! 😉 Although... I still haven't given up! 😀

AAaaaaaahhhhhh :soexcited: ....interview invite 😱...after all the anticipation I'm a little numb..

Stats on MDApps, application verified August 12th, secondary in on August 15th, IS

October 15th cannot come fast enough... praying that I'm part of the 72%... Good luck to everyone waiting for next Tuesday at 12:01 AM and those waiting on an II!

Hopefully they'll post the breakdown like last time!

Outcomes of 9/20 & 9/27 Interview dates: 65% Accept--2%Defer--33%Waitlist. Individual outcomes reported via status page on October 15 #GoBlue

Good luck to the approx. 160 of us who will be hearing decisions on Oct 15th!!!

Oh man, the anticipation builds... here's to being in the 65%! GL everybody!!

So I was speaking to a friend and I think I completely missed the boat on the "passionate" essay. Unfortunately I already submitted it. Apparently we were supposed to write about something quirky? I wrote about my research very generally....which I am passionate about since I've been doing it for 6 years. But my friend says that's too related to medicine and slightly boring...wondering what other opinions are?

I wouldn't worry about it. The question was open ended enough and if you really are passionate about research, then that's a great example!

ahhhh I'm starting to freak out a bit lol...really hoping for good news tomorrow! :xf:

I've been freaking out all week. I'm tempted to live tweet my reactions and emotions throughout the day up to midnight. #JudgementDay

14 hours! The crazy thing is I have another interview at 8am eastern time tomorrow morning! How am I going to get to sleep tonight...? 🙁

For last year's cycle, they didn't send out the majority of pre-interview rejections until March (although they had similar tweets throughout the cycle about closing files).

Oh yuck. I won't hold my breath, then. Thanks for the info!

Comon' Michigan! Please have mercy! Accept me an hour early! 😀

EDIT: Not to be a buzzkill, but from reading past years' threads it seems that they send acceptances in batches according to time zone. West-coasters should not expect a decision until 3AM Eastern time. I'm going to bed yall, good luck and good night! :luck:

ONE MORE HOUR! AH! I told myself I would be calm, but I am sitting at my computer freaking out and obsessively checking UMich's twitter updates. Good luck to everyone else waiting, hopefully we will all have good news soon!
