2013-2014 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You certainly didn't lose anything by emailing your interviewer. Maybe the email got your interviewer to remember your application.

Sounds like a good idea to contact your interviewers and make your case.

I interviewed in mid-November. I feel that my interview went well, but have not heard anything back yet. My interviewer did, however, provide me with his email and personal cell phone number saying to contact him if I had any questions. Would anyone recommend that I contact him? If so, should I continue to wait a while longer or contact him soon? Thank you for your help.

Well... I interviewed the first week odd September and have not heard anything, so I think they're time frame is kind of huge. But if the interviewer encouraged contact, why not?

my interviewer gave me her business card and told me to contact her if i had any questions, i did after 12 wks to ask her where i stand in the application process and my great desire to attend unc med. she replied a wk later nicely telling me to just wait. and then i got a call from her 3 wks later about my acceptance to unc med and she knew i was the one that emailed her.

so from my experience it is a good idea to contact the interviewer if he/she encouraged u to do so...

My interviewer didn't specifically ask me to contact him, so I just sent a thank-you card/interest in UNC the day after my interview and left it at that.

+2

For most cases at UNC you shouldn't contact your interviewer directly...the admissions office tells you not to and they can't do anything. Most times bugging them would just frustrate them. Wait patiently! Still lots and lots of time.

I like your attitude. Time to pick up a new hobby!

I'm on the don't-contact-your-adcom camp. They probably know we were instructed not to sent updates, etc., and I personally don't want to run the risk of annoying my adcom. I'm really glad it worked out for you though, leehj.

I'm going to keep checking my mail and keeping my phone nearby. We still have a long way to go!

Got the letter/packet today but no call earlier in the week. Interviewed late October with bashford.

anyone know how long it takes to receive the packet after an acceptance call? i got my call on tuesday but havent received any mail yet...

Has anyone received a packet early in the week like a Tuesday? Are packets generally sent later in the week?

I think trying to track when the packet is going to show up is futile...it's going to depend heavily on USPS (which we all know take their sweet time).

+1 I actually dreamt I was watching an opera at UNC after taking the step 1 for some reason. I don't even like operas...
I am not currently a particular fan of operas either, but if UNC told me to like operas, I would like operas.

From what I can gather, the class isn't nearly full yet but the committee still has to meet and review applications. My interview is February 17th which is late in the game. Has anyone ever heard of people getting in, interviewing that late in the cycle? I know that the committee will probably only meet two or three times after my interview.

I personally don't know anyone, but you could check previous years' threads. You could also do a search by school on MDApps for accepted students and see how many people listed their interview dates. It requires a little bit of sleuthing, but it might be helpful.

One of my friends interviewed in February last cycle and ended up getting in off the wait list. I'm not sure if they were wait listed because of the late interview, some other reason, or a combination of these. If UNC offers you an interview they are obviously interested. They receive 6000 or so applicants and interview around 600 people. Stay confident, make a good impression in your interview, and good luck!

has anyone uncovered through these means a general date range when the class begins filling en masse?

I think tomorrow will have a lot of acceptances. Looking back at previous year's threads, there seems to be a lot of acceptances this time last year. And one person I spoke with during interviews said she interviewed in September and didn't get in until January.

I hope you're right! Called on Friday and still no updates. Anyone know approximately how many offers they have given?

I'm just glad to not have a rejection yet. I hope that bodes well for me in the near future! 🙂

Today will be The Day.
See I want to get excited but then I realize even if by some miracle I got accepted I wouldn't get a phone call from Bashford. Wah! Please let today be THE day! Puhleaseee!

Have there been interview rejections yet? Figured they held onto us until at least Feb. Wishful thinking. *Knocks on wood*

Does Dr. Bashford not make calls?

There has been one post-interview rejection posted so far. No telling how many there have actually been.

Well it looks like I'm not getting in tonight. At least I have next week to look forward to, when, according to previous years threads, there's going to be some rejections coming. Congrats to those who got in tonight though.

Did anyone get in tonight?

I had so many good vibes and nothing. Maybe they came a week early

I know a friend who got the phone call... So I know they are calling people.
