When did you submit???OOS and received secondary on 9/15. STOKED.
Is anyone else having residency issues? I'm an Idaho resident and got verification from UI in June--at that time they cc'd me on the formal email they sent UW. On my secondary it STILL says not received. I've emailed them TWICE and haven't gotten a response and it's been at least 2 weeks. What gives?
I'm an Idaho resident applying and was wondering if anyone knew more about the actual progression of the coursework? I know that the first year is done in our home state, but all the information from University of Idaho's site that I've read discusses the "Idaho track" which has you return to Idaho for the 4th year (maybe 3rd as well) and then it sounds like you're practically destined to be in primary care. I truly do have a strong desire for serving under-served areas, whether I end up in a rural or urban setting, but I don't want to be a PCP. Is being an Idaho resident automatic placement into the "Idaho track?" and am I strongly hindering my chances of specializing if I do end up getting accepted and attending? UW has always been such a dream of mine, but now I'm starting to get confused about the actual formatting of the WWAMI education.
I know that the reason WWAMI residents get in-state tuition is because the state pays the difference for the seats, but I don't think there is a requirement once you complete medical school to stay in your home state for a specific amount of time. Does anyone have any additional info?
I highly recommend calling them to discuss it. The admissions office is awesome, and I guarantee it will be quicker than waiting for an e-mail!
Here's their number: 206.543.7212.
Being an Idaho resident does NOT mean you have to do the Idaho track for rotations. That being said, if you have an interest in rural and underserved medicine, regardless of specialty I highly recommend you track through Idaho, Montana, etc. You will see how medicine in these areas in all specialties differs than in the big city of Seattle, and MOST IMPORTANTLY you get to be far far far more hands on and do things when you rotate here than if you stay in the city. Remember, in Seattle you will usually have many other people (multiple residents, other med students) ahead of you all wanting hands-on practice.
Also, don't think for a minute that being and Idaho WWAMI would hinder your chances at getting into any specialty you want! UW has a PCP focus, but they do not force you to choose any certain specialty (they may kinda sorta try to sway you a certain way). In fact, if you look at the matches for the 2013 graduating Idahoans, only a few went the PCP route!
I've gone on long enough. If you would like more info. don't hesitate to message me!
Best wishes!
Just got official date to interview. Next week on the 2nd. Talk about short notice![]()

I'm on the same boat as you! But this is coming up awfully fast... I'm nervous.

Agreed, especially since UW has probably one of the hardest interviews with its focus on ethical and healthcare questions. Wanted a few weeks to study but I guess I'll have to do with one.
I'll see you there then!

any recent ii??
Yeah I'm wondering the same thing. Been complete since late August. WA resident.
any recent ii??
I just got one this week - complete mid-August, and in-region. I had neurotically called the office the week before because it had been 6 weeks since I'd heard anything, and I got a very nice phone call from an admissions person reassuring me that my application was fine and still waiting to be reviewed. She said it could be as much as several more weeks until they got to it, too. Got the interview invite the next week.
So don't panic like I did! They said the admissions staff was somewhat short-handed, and I'm only guessing, but maybe the AMCAS snafu from earlier this year has caused a bit of a backup. I totally understand the worry, but you're probably fine.
The interview went well. Started off with a tour around the school by the med student. Showed various parts of the medical building and hospital. The facilities are a little old but some of the rooms are new and nice. The students seemed very happy (although it's only like the first month of class ). Apparently, the administration does a really good job at taking care of students and were very supportive of student needs (ie, they gave cake bi-monthly for student birthdays!).
After the tour, you have a Q&A with a faculty and then lunch with med students. Ask lots of questions. They're very helpful! Particularly the med students put you at ease and give very good tips and insights on med school.
Finally, the interview is with 3 people, with one being your main EXCOM member. I had 1 doctor, 1 faculty, and 1 med student but that combination could be different for you. Anyways, my interview was very laid back and conversational. They don't try to grill you and make you cry. They certainly want you to be comfortable and allow you to be yourself. And that's my biggest advice - just be yourself. The questions are pretty straightforward (Why medicine? What influences? Any specialties you're interested in?) as well as some policy questions (What is the state of healthcare? What do you think about X on the ACA?). Finally, there will be a role play that is slightly awkward at first. It was odd playing the role of a physician haha. My situation was that my patient didn't want to vaccinate her child due to Jessie McCarthy and the supposed autism/vaccination link. My other interviewees had other situations such as 16 year old wanted birth control pills and such. After the role play, your interviewer will ask what you thought about it, your reasoning for your answers, etc. The UW bioethics website will help you a lot preparing for this role play.
Anyways, that's that. Good luck with your interview and hope it goes well!!!
I just spoke with the admissions office since I've been complete since 8/13 without a peep (IS). They were super nice and apologetic about the long wait, and said to call back if I haven't heard anything within a couple weeks.
Ugh. I need to go to there.
Hey guys, I'm wondering does anyone who already did the interview know how long it takes for UW to give you an exact interview date after sending the first email notifying you that you're invited for an interview?
I got an II about a week ago but still haven't received an email on my interview date. (In state, WA). Thanks so much 🙂
Any OOS get IIs yet?
