2013 TCOM Waitlist Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Any likelihood of movement this M-F next week?

I heard from a pretty reliable source that the adcom is suppose to meet again this week, whether that translates to more wait list movement or not - I don't know. Based on numbers alone I would expect at least 10 or so more medscis to be accepted at some point, but that's just conjecture.

That would be great. I'm still fantasizing over how I'm going to celebrate if the magical call does come in. But at the same time...I don't want to get disappointed. If they do "meet" I don't think it has any bearing on the WL (unless they add people) because the second we're wait-listed, we have a selected ranking so to speak out of their 10 scale system. Maybe they'll meet this week and say we need to clear the top 10 people currently on the WL, then maybe they'll review more MedScis who are under review (if there are any left?).

***You med-sci/non med-sci lurkers without an SDN account on here better end up posting if something fortunate does come your way 😉 ***

I've counted at least 7 wait-listed on here. Probably safe to assume at least 14-20 from other Med-Scis.

There has been waitlist movement (disregarding the year) on:

June
9th
11th
15th
21st
27th
28th
29th

Looks like anything goes in the month of June.

how do you guys know how many people have been accepted into the incoming class?

The class size being thrown around is somewhere along the lines of 230 students, and Med Sci figures are based on previous years acceptances (45-55 per year from the looks of it).

For the year thing, it is safe to say that there is about 15-17 days between waitlist movements for TCOM based on previous years data. But, the best thing one can do is just to wait it out and start filling out the TMDSAS 🙁

When I got the call, Joel (assistant dean) talked about a ranked list of the wait listed candidates. From the acceptances it seems they are the 3.8-3.7 stage. I believe 3.4-3.5 have been rejected already. So I would be very hopeful. I strongly believe there will be another wave of at least 10 acceptance from now till orientation which is the 15th of July. I know its a terrible existence and its easy for me to say this, but just live your life as if you got in and stop trying to do the numbers. It will drive you insane.

Waitlisted with under a 3.5? My understanding was that you had to have at least a 3.5 to even be considered. Guess nothing is set in stone.

There was a guy last year with two Cs who was accepted too. Even if those two Cs were in a 2.0 credit hour class + As & Bs, I wonder if that would be a sub 3.5 as well. Perhaps TCOM's "non-cognitive values" is what helped those <3.5 people out in general.

Its total conjecture, i just know two of my friends that got rejected had a 3.4 and 3.55 respectively.

But at this point if you are wait listed with a lower GPA, then the non-cognitive scores must have been higher. The two friends I speak of never got wait listed.

Also I know a med-sci with a 4.0 that got rejected midway through the semester.
So maybe its mostly your gpa, but there are some other factors that determines your rank on the wait list.

Just wondering, but what led you to believe this? I know a handful of people wait listed with that GPA and below, hmm.

That's crazy. Anything goes it seems. I bet admissions watches this thread and chuckles at our collective hypotheses and thought process of determining these variables out.

Completely right...now I am just trying to keep busy (via wasting off my Steam catalog, volunteering, etc)

Anyone wants to kill time, look into the Humble Bundle...6 bucks gets you 11 games, but expires tomorrow

I guess the good thing is that movement, of any sort, means people are being cleared now rather than later.

Has anyone that is on the waitlist but not in the Medsci program been accepted recently?
It seems from this thread that mainly only Medsci students are being pulled off the list at this point

I'm sure there has been, but it is difficult to determine that information outside of what is posted on SDN.

Are bridge students counted along with the Med Sci counts?

I get the feeling that they probably are. There were 7 bridge students this year I think?

Yes, about 7, but max of 10? Everytime someone responds to this thread I think someone was pulled from the WL 🙄

These are really high GPAs to be rejected.

Is it true 3.5 is the minimum to even be considered for TCOM? I'm guessing for OOS, then it's even higher.

Is that right?

Anyone have stats for OOS being accepted to TCOM?

Nope.

On a side note. I think there has been (since last Friday) at least confirmed:

7 Med Scis accepted
1 non-Med Sci accepted

Sigh.

So maybe a standard 10 total...

When I interviewed, I was told that TCOM's data showed statistically that those students that completed med sci with a GPA of 3.5 or better did well in medical school. It was reiterated to me several times that I should shoot for a GPA above 3.5 to be seriously considered for a spot.

Wait...you mean including those accepted on Friday right? Not 7 more since?

+1. I would be SO happy to be pulled of the waitlist. 😀😀😀

It would be the best day of the year 😀 But for some reason, I hope this isn't a bad luck brian scenario :scared:

This just dawned on me...are we supposed to receive something in the mail from the school indicating waitlist status?

I believe so, but I haven't received anything in the mail yet.

Just got a call a few minutes ago. Accepted!!!

^nice, that is probably why. Congrats to you!! nice to see one of us SDN's on here finally get in.

Oh, and btw pigglyjuff, you are supposed to get a small envelope in the mail that says your on the waitlist, but I don't think it means anything if you don't (especially after ElevenThirteens acceptance). I believe I received the letter like 2-3 weeks after I was waitlisted.

Can anyone enlighten us on how many people were accepted today?

Yeah so far three known Med Scis were accepted today (one unconfirmed but we might as well mark it)...this looks like a trickling season, with 33 non-bridge and 10 bridge

Another medsci added to the TCOM roster!

was it you? is that why you have the exclamation point? hopefully there will be more acceptances this week.
Oh no, sorry, for some reason, I cannot punctuate on my phone correctly 😛
But crossing my fingers for the future, should hear something back very soon

I wish there was more movement on the list, but chances are no 🙁

Another MedSci was bumped off the wait list yesterday (26th), just keeping a record on here about the events
