2014-2015 Boston University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone who's already interviewed here know if they have student hosting the night before the interview?? I can't find the information anywhere on the applicant portal...

Don't believe so unfortunately. I rented a hotel very nearby, there are a few good ones within a few minutes walking distance.

Edit: Nevermind guess there is!

Does anyone know when BU said they'll announce decisions for those who are interviewed? I interviewed in October and they said January, but I'm wondering if anyone got a more specific date from them on their interview day.

You applied pretty late to a school with huge amount of applications (I recalled something to the number of 10k). I'm not making call, but i think if you have limited fund to apply you should prioritize elsewhere.

Yep 11.7K applications on MSAR so if 100% submit secondaries that come to $1,287,000... woah. At my interview they said 1/4 of all applicants who applied last cycle sent BU an app.

A friend who interviewed recently said they were still on target to release the first wave of acceptances in the 1st/2nd week of January. Good luck y'all, but in the mean time....

When is the first wave of acceptance? I vaguely remember the dean said it's Jan 15.

edit : figured it out 🙂

Should be less, since there is waiver for students with low income.

Oh poop, I just read an earlier post that said they evaluate applicants in December and reveal the decisions in January? Does that mean it's too late for an application update?!

If it is a significant update (e.g. new grades, research, accomplishments or anything you consider significant), go ahead and do it. Whatever scenario you fall into accepted, rejected, deferred.... seems like sending in an update only works to you advantage. Remember, only 1/3 of those interviewed thus far are accepted in January, some are rejected but most are deferred.

Does anyone know if BU sends an email or makes a phone call for acceptances? thanks!

I think people were saying in the thread from last year that your interviewer will call you if you're accepted. I'd imagine you receive an email/official letter as well.

Sounds good! Thanks!

I (MD/PhD applicant) received an email just now saying there was new information on the MyApplication portal. However, the only change on the portal is that they sent me this email. Does this mean I am in the group that got continued to the March acceptance date? Did anyone else receive this email? Has anyone been accepted for MD/PhD or in general?

I did not receive that email! I don't think they would send out any decisions on a Sunday?

I didn't get an email either! But hopefully that means they're going to release the decisions soon???

MD/PhD or MD? The email was titled "Interview Follow-up Round 2", so I guess it's just similar to the first interview follow up email they sent. I just thought there might be a chance that it was indicative of decisions coming out given the time frame.

Edit: I looked back at the first email. They are identical except the second email doesn't contain this phrase: "Our Committee on Admissions will review your application in the context of the overall applicant pool. In mid-January we will send a status update email to each individual who has interviewed prior to that time, accepting a small number of candidates, declining some, and deferring a final decision on some."
Also, the second email states that the accepted open house will be April 11th rather than the vague late April or early May that the first email mentions.

Hello all!
Looks like this will be the week...
I found the info below posted on last years thread (and added the date from 2014) for the first acceptance contact date (phone calls)

Jan 7 2009
Jan 7 2010
Jan 5 2011
Jan 4 2012
Jan 11 2013
Jan 7 2014

Seems like only a few interviewers decide to call applicants and most probably find out via official email that came on friday the 10th of last year... So maybe friday the 9th of this one? Good luck to all and happy new year

I got that exact same email. Considering doconeday1.0's helpful comment plus what we were told at the interview about news in Januage, I'm expecting to hear decisions (accept/hold, maybe reject) sort of soon?

Hmm, when did you interview? My round 1 email has the April 11th date. I interviewed in mid November. Didn't get the round 2 email.

So nervous!!!

Just freaked the f*** out because I saw I had a missed call from a 617 number (admittedly not that remarkable, since I live in Boston, but I don't often get calls from local numbers)...turns out it was the local library branch calling to let me know that the copy of Gone Girl I'd requested two months ago is now available.
(And seeing as I already got ahold of another copy and finished the book in the meantime, there's not even the silver lining of finally getting off the library waitlist 🙁)

EDIT (1/7): Are you kidding me? Just got another missed call from a different 617 number (the library again, telling me to renew my card). Of all the weeks for people to start calling me...

Hello everyone,

I don't think I've ever posted on here but I'm a frequent lurker. I interviewed on 11/17, 31 MCAT and 3.89 GPA. Did anyone on here interview on the same rainy day? I do not have high hopes, but it's difficult not to imagine receiving that glorious phone call or email. Best of luck to everyone! I hope you are remaining strong during this stressful time. Let's hope the next few days bring good news.

Did anyone else on here get the background check email?

Sounds like something you'd get if you were accepted! What'd it say / when did you get it? I havent received anything from BU recently :O

Edit: It seems like some other non BU ppl are getting these emails. Its January so any school you're accepted to can now request your background check.

I received the background check email last week but I believe it is because a different school requested it? Are you waiting on decisions from any other schools? If not, BU may have requested it!

Yes I'm waiting on VCU, but they won't release my status until Feb. So hopefully this is good news!

Edit: was also wait listed at FIU earlier in the cycle.

That sounds like great news! Hopefully that means decisions are being released very soon cause I hate playing this waiting game....

Were you accepted anywhere? Thats probably who is requesting it.

I keep obsessively checking this thread to see if anyone has gotten calls or emails! I'm starting to think that notifications maybe won't happen until next week...

I keep doing the same thing on top of checking my email. I must have picked up my phone every 10 minutes at work today...needless to say I had to stay late to finish a report. I forgot, but does anyone remember how many initial offers are handed out in the first round of decisions?

They send out 1/3 of the total acceptances in the first wave.

Maybe not... But one year there were no calls/emails until the friday of the week...

I got my acceptance call about ten minutes ago, so it looks like it's begun!

Has anyone gotten a deferred or rejected email yet? I'm getting so nervous!!!
Sitting by the phone, waiting for it to ring, hoping an unknown Boston number will light up the screen.

I don't think emails will go out until tomorrow, according to what my interviewer said (I don't think they send out rejections or deferrals before the acceptances at least)
