2014-2015 Duke University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone who got a call, was it from a 615 number?? I missed one yesterday... Hmm maybe??

So at this point no news is good news...unless it comes in physical form?

At this rate.

People that didn't get an acceptance phone call (but were accepted) will probably have 2 rough days.

They already think they aren't accepted. Then tomorrow/wed. when the waitlists comes out, they won't get an email, so they'll think they're rejected.

Then when the rejection emails come out, they won't get those and think they're rejected or just totally forgotten and still be unsure.

Then they'll randomly check their mail and get an acceptance package.

That's rough man, haha.

If they mailed them last Friday, then it should arrive at various destinations latest Tuesday...oh well

realistically, no news is probably unfortunate news (depending on how you look at the waitlist) or bad news (rejection).

perhaps only a very very few amount of people (proportionally to those who've received calls) will be surprised by the mail acceptance package.

just trying to be probabilistic, sorry.

At this point, anything can/will happen...fingers crossed

That's probably true under most circumstances, but I think snow/weather is really gonna delay stuff a bit in the East and then there's just distance to the West.

And God knows when they actually mailed them out or if they mailed them all out at the same time.

Yep, only God knows when they mailed them because one can or can't believe anything at this point. I still think a sizable amount of applicants will be surprised in their mail box.

Thanks for the faith, I thought I'm the only one clinging to a surprise 🙂

We all are, even if don't wanna believe it. Until we have that final correspondence, for better or for worse.

Hope is a strange and blessed thing.

They used the portal for everything: secondary, interview pic, something else I probably can't discuss... I straight up told the admissions counsellor that I was impressed with how they used it. Why can it not be used to communicate decisions? Why?

I meant no news in email this entire week may be good news...haha

Nervous about the neuroticism that this will probably cause, but I received my acceptance letter in the mail today. I live in Boston, so it managed to get to our snowy wasteland pretty quickly. I also got an acceptance call last night. For the record, the envelope was small, but had multiple papers in it (trying to cover all my bases with details haha).

Did you have different preferred/permanent addresses on AMCAS?

So when the person in admissions said that acceptance packets would be mailed out, are we assuming that they are also going to people other than those who already received phone calls? Or do we think that the acceptance packets are just formal acceptances for those who were already called?

When I called them they said that there are most certainly people who will receive packets who haven't been called.

And as an additional update, I called again (from a different number lol) and they told me that acceptances=snail mail, wait list=email today, and rejections=email around Thursday.

Let's see how this pans out

Oh and I forgot they also said that they mailed things out Friday and Saturday

Thanks! Has your portal changed ?

No, same ol' status. The acceptance packet has a "statement of intent" we need to mail in within 21 days to confirm our spot (no deposit). Since this confirmation isn't electronic, I'm thinking they're done using the portal.

EDIT: Wish I could be of more help here; I know the past week has been awful. I really thought I was getting a WL/Rejection until last night when I got the call, and the doctor who called me seemed like he was just getting around to his calls. It's pretty possible he could have not called me and I would have gotten the letter today. Keep your heads high!

I'm having one of those weeks where everything seems to be going so wrong and I'm losing hope here. It would mean so much to get a positive answer from Duke but it just feels like it's not meant to be at this point. Someone just put me out of my misery!

Cool, I'm in boston too. Hopefully I'll come home to a delicious letter. Thanks!

Could you inform us if it was First Class mail, expedited in anyway, or just standard postage?

it's almost 5 ET.....how long could they wait? I'm just waiting until the waitlisted people start popping up....then I'll know I'm totally screwed.

Wait so no portal update? I'm on spring break until next week.... Will I make the deadline to turn in any forms?

Probably gonna be waitlist tomorrow, but I don't see why the day off today.

And why the big pause for rejections? Why not just the same day or the day after, Thursday seems kind of long.

You don't think it's possible Duke could be...wrong about sending out waitlists by email today, do you? No, no, they've been so prompt and straightforward all throughout this whole notification process.

Totally standard. Acceptance letter has 2/25/15 as the date, but it was postmarked 2/27/15.

Yep, just checked my mail and got the letter too. I'm on the east coast as well.

Also, I'm going to send positive vibes to all of you guys still waiting! I didn't get my call until very late last week so I can relate to how frustrating it is to hear other people getting news and only have silence for yourself.

Got the letter today. Post marked 2/27 and I live on the southeast coast.

Positive vibes to those still waiting!

I think what we need now aren't just the people who got calls and now getting mails...but those who didn't get calls and getting the mails now XD
