Did anyone here receive a diversity scholarship?

I applied for one, but never heard anything back :-(
(to be fair, though, I didn't submit an essay until early April.. )

Don't be surprised if things start rolling closer to May 14th. Because that's the hard financial deadline with FIU, there will likely be another wave of seat relinquishing closer to that date. My guess is that FIU admin knows this, and is waiting until they have a better idea of how many people they need to pull in.

That's only a guess, though. I'd be elated if we got confirmation of movement by the end of today.
 
I would expect the bulk of waitlist movement to really begin after the 14th, when seat deposits are due and some of the dust has settled from the initial round of waitlist offers to those currently holding seats at FIU. There might even be some people inexplicably continuing to hold seats with no intention of attending, and those offers will expire on the 14th, as well.
 
Thank you for that information! I was unaware of that deadline so now I know not to hold my breath hoping for news very soon lol

Yes, I did. I submitted it in February and got a call less than a week later telling me I received a half tuition scholarship. I'm sure that rapid turn around was a bit of an anomaly, but I think applications are reviewed on a pretty constant basis!

This wait seems to be taking longer than I expected (relative to time passing). Nine more days until that financial deadline, huh? Guess I'll be filling in my AMCAS today 🙁

D'awwwww thanks! 😀 We're all victim to the waiting game right now. Frankly, I'll be pumped to hear when things start moving, regardless of whether or not my name is pulled in the first round!
 
Have they already started posting financial packages to our accounts? I submitted my FAFSA back in January but I haven't gotten any info of anything yet.

I got an email reminding us to select off campus housing on FAFSA. Besides that, nothing.

I received an estimated award letter on 4/3 by email. It only contained the amount of unsubsidized loans that I qualify for

Me too. Not sure if that means I didn't get any money, but thats the assumption I've made.

Yeah I got that too :/ I wanted to know whether or not I got any money from completing the diversity scholarship essay though
 
Guys I do not want to stir up anxiety in all of you, but I received an email on Tuesday around 5pm confirming whether I wanted to remain on the waiting list or not.
This is the second email of such nature that I have received. The previous one was in March I believe. I think they are preparing the first round of acceptances. Something is cooking up; the next few weeks are crucial so stay tuned.

I got the first email in March, but have yet to hear anything since. Anyone else get a duplicate waitlist note?

Congrats to all those headed to FIU HWCOM! And I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those of you on the waitlist. It's still very early (as far as post-decision date goes) so don't lose hope!

If any of you have any questions about where to live/travel times/Miami in general, feel free to PM me. If I don't know the answer, I can get you in contact with someone who does. 😉 I graduated last week, and I can honestly say the last 4 years were the best of my life. You all will love it here!

I haven't gotten a duplicate. Maybe he has another acceptance somewhere and they want to confirm that he is still interested? :/ Just my hopeful thinking that it doesn't mean anything that we didn't get one.

I wouldn't worry about it you guys. If the email isn't worded any differently, then it may also be a glitch. For instance, I received an email stating that my secondary application was complete several months after my interview and waitlist decision. Go figure 🙂

Just got a call from a 305 area code (which I have never been contacted from, apart from FIU-related calls) . Commenced freakout.

Me: "Hello, this is BeachBlondie....."
Voice: "Hi! I'm So-and-So from the Blood Bank! Do you have any time to...."

I live within the 305 area code region so I get random 305 calls all the time... I freak out every time and it's always something disappointing lol.
 
and I thought waiting a whole month to receive my MCAT score was stressful :laugh:

Probably not necessary. Based on the decent proportion of students who are 1) on the waitlist and SDN users, and 2) who are Miami locals with friends who are all applying to the same schools, we would likely have heard on the boards.

Because the deposit deadline was yesterday, my guess is that the admissions committee is starting to review applicants now that they have a better understanding of how many seats require filling.

If it gets to the end of next week and we are all still in the dark, a call might be warranted. But, hey, if you want to be the one to make that call today......:smug:

It's hard for me to believe that they didn't accept anyone off the alternate list at this point, especially considering the fact that the deadline was moved back to April 30th. Every other FIU thread had applicants pulled off the list in early May, with the bulk of them being accepted on May 15. Why would this year be any different? Unless they completely changed the way they process applications this year.:shrug:
 
Does anybody know when we will be able to view and accept our financial aid awards online?

We definitely would have heard. I don't think it's moved yet.... but I have no real explanation :/
 
Withdrew from FIU, and gave up a full tuition scholarship. FIU is such an incredible school, and one that has been supportive of me right from the start. It was very tough to decline, but I know someone who wants to be there more than me will receive the seat! My best wishes to everyone here waiting for the waitlist to move!!!
 
Are there any other oos applicants here that are on the waitlist? 🙂

Same. I would have been happy to end such an institution that is so friendly and attentive on interview day and to their accepted students.
