Very much. See my previous post on waitlist movement for some hope 😉 Welcome to The List, my friend!

Haha! I'm not even sure what that means! Why me?

Lol I tried to figure out how to phrase that for like 20 minutes. It means through the multiple threads I follow, I somehow came to care about your success.

Thanks for caring about me

Now hopefully the financial aid office will care about me too! The OOS tuition is frightening.

I contacted the school and they have no available hosts for me 🙁
I am flying in Thursday and I still don't have a place to stay. This should be interesting. Any advice on nice, affordable places to stay would be greatly appreciated!
If you could let me know where you ended up staying I'd really appreciate it! Hotels are so expensive and I need a room in a week!!

I ended up staying at an extended stay America for around $120. I wouldn't call this cheap, but Miami is really expensive so it was expected. The hotel was nice and I was happy with the location.

Hey guys!

I'm pretty sure I'll be attending FIU's med school in the fall. Does anyone know how people normally find roommates? I don't currently live in Miami and I don't know a ton of people going there in the Fall. I would love to live with other med students, if possible, since our schedules would probably be pretty similar. I know there is a facebook page but the only people posting on it so far have been admins so I didn't want to post a housing question inappropriately. Plus, I figure a lot of people might not have commited to one school yet.

Does anyone know how it works or have any suggestions for me?

Thanks!

Posting on the group facebook page would not be inappropriate as that is what it is commonly used for prior to starting school. I believe most people actually find their roommates this way. If you do not want to post now, the page will be flooded with requests around mid May when people start to settle on a particular school. PM me if you have any questions.

Anyone interviewing on February 9th?? Message me lets meet up!! I'll be in Miami early and need a buddy!! hahah

Sooooo I'm in Miami.. interview on Monday... if anyone else is here lets chilllll. Literally never been here before. Haha

Does anyone know what the expected class size is for next year? Is it 120?

Thereabouts. There were 122 last year. They were approved by the medical board for 120 (based on resources for rotations, etc.). I don't think they plan to open up the size any time soon.

Did accepted students get a certiphi background check request? If so about how long after acceptance?

I saw all of the applicants sprawled out around campus having lunch and looking confused today. Good luck, all!

PS: To the guy that asked where the Starbucks was on campus, I salute you.

Congrats to those already accepted! I am interviewing on 3/27. Am I at a disadvantage interviewing so late??

If you're a competitive applicant, no interview is too late when they're willing to extend it.

I just withdrew my spot for Friday so maybe they can squeeze you in early. Can't hurt to call! Good luck!

Does anyone know if laptops are given as part of our tuition? My laptop is done for and I'm thinking of buying a new one- kinda need it for the semester. Not sure if I should hold off.

Also has anyone who's submitted their FAFSA to FIU gotten scholarships after? If not, what did your loan offers look like? I'm not sure if everyone is automatically offered the full COA amount.

If you submitted your FAFSA in January you are almost guaranteed a 5k/year grant (at least that is how it has been in the past). Loan offers are full COA. Laptops are included in your COA so don't buy a new one if you can hold off.

Congrats everyone! Hope I'll see some of you at the March 6 second-look.

Hi all,

I am going to be applying here next year. Just wondering if anyone has gotten in with stats similar to mine and who maybe is also "non-traditional"--I am going to be very geographically limited cause my husband is taking a job in south Florida so my "options" are basically FIU or Miami:

MCAT: Wait for it….a whooping 28. Phys Sci 8, Verbal 11, Bio Sci 9. Took twice, first time was 26, 8, 10, 8.
GPA: 3.9
Science: 3.7
Non Traditional (practiced law for a decade, attended top 5 law school)
Extracurriculars since deciding on career change: 100 hours in clinic, 100 hours in ER, currently working at hospital as research contract coordinator.
Extracurriculars in college: tons of leadership experience, TAs, etc. but none medically related.

Caucasian, Female. Will be Florida resident at time of application.

Thank you!

You have a chance at getting an interview. However, if I were you, I would retake the MCAT given that you can really only attend two schools. You may also want to consider NOVA.
