2014-2015 Meharry Medical College Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You say you make statements based on fact, well then, get ready to read this fact. Just because Meharry has 10 white matriculants in a recent entering class does not mean that only 10 white applicants received acceptance letters. Most medical schools send close to double the number of acceptance letters as compared to their class size. Therefore, it's much more likely that Meharry sent acceptance letters to 20 + white applicants and 10 + white applicants rejected Meharry's acceptance offer. Furthermore, I know with reasonable certainty that a significant percentage of white applicants do not apply to HBCUs simply because they don't want to be the "odd one out" in the class, they don't want to be a minority in the class. That's their problem and their choice. Don't blame it on HBCUs.
:troll:

That's same argument I made though smh lol

I don't remember you or anyone posting about the fact that there are a lot more acceptance letters than there are class seats? also, why do you call me a troll?

Lol I didn't talk about that specifically, but I did mention how I was sure that many white applicants don't apply to HBCU and that just because only a few matriculated it didn't mean that this was because the school didn't want more white students. I wasn't calling you the troll, I was telling you not to feed the guy you were responding to, they're the troll lol

You will get one. Just be patient.

I got the secondary and my score is <26.

Has anyone received a secondary without any MCAT score? As in primary submitted and verified sent to selected schools while holding for your MCAT scores....

Submitted secondary today. Now the waiting game beings!

Nope. I am retaking the MCAT on October 21st and I received an e-mail stating that my app was placed on hold pending my scores. Meharry Medical College completes a "preliminary screen" based upon MCAT scores, GPA, and other "holistic" factors which will contribute to a students' potential success in their rigorous M.D. program, and subsequent success as an excellent, humane, culturally-competent physician. IMO, they don't want to waste an applicants time with a secondary app when the applicant does not meet the "screen". This also saves an applicant $65.00! Longroad2here, I will keep you in my prayers in regards to your pending "screen-acceptable" MCAT score, and please keep me in your prayers for mine. God Bless! 🙂

Thanks so much! I will certainly do the same for you. My scores will be back next week....can't wait.

Do you have to update your amcas application about the an upcoming MCAT score if it is already submitted? How do the schools find out? For example, I submitted in July but just decided in August that I wanted to take the MCAT again in September.

I am looking for an answer for the same question. Thanks

Yes you have to update your amcas app if you plan on taking the mcat again even if the amcas has been submitted already.

Ok future Meharrian friends...what is up with the Interviews? Last year per posts they were offered starting the 22nd of August. I'm feeling impatient and excited!!

Since Meharry pre-screens the AMCAS application before sending secondaries, do you think people who receive secondaries have a good chance of receiving an II? Also, do you think people who submit secondaries early are at an advantage when it comes to receiving II?

How long is the secondary essay suppose to be? Thanks.

Alright, so for all of you wondering what in the world is going on with II from Meharry I have some info. I called the office of admissions to inquire about their student update policy (nothing will be read other than you primary, you might be able to bring an update sheet to you interview should you get one) and I also asked about interview invites. They have not sent any II out just yet and will likely send them in October due to a high volume of applicants for 2015. Hang tight everyone, it's going to be a long ride... +pissed+

Oh wow--thanks for the update on the II. Seems a little bit wild that last year they started around August 22 and this year in October? I'm a bit bummed about huge volume of applicants...oy vey.

guys help! I wrote a whole essay about my interest in primary care and then described my interest in Meharry throughout. Is that okay? Or do you guys think that's too long? I really like my essay so I'd feel bad scrapping it but I think it makes it more clear...thoughts?

thanks and fingers crossed for all of us 🙂

How long is it?

Well just for the sake of getting some action on this thread to push us to the front page 🙂
Can anyone comment on the class schedule for MS1? Is it 8-5pm? Also do most students follow any dress code (I've heard that some schools require or prefer business or business casual)

II Earlier today!!! i'm officially overwhelmed with interviews, dont know if i can afford to attend, but i'm so happy regardless! recieved secondary on the 1st of august

Congrats!! When did you submit your secondary?? If you can't attend, please let Meharry know ASAP so they can give one of us the II. Some of us are real thirsty for interview invites over here.

Good morning all,

Can you please update your stats if you have II. I'm also curious if folks are URM or not who are getting interviews, given intent of school. Thanks!
