2014-2015 Oakland University Application Thread

How do you guys answer this question?

What type of information could go here?

Optional: Is there anything you want the admissions committee to know about your qualifications for medical school that is not already represented in your application materials? Note: This space is provided for new information only, not to promote qualifications already highlighted in your other materials.

Is there a word or character limit for this essay?

So are you guys choosing any undergrad bio/chem/etc classes, or the first ones you took in college?

I just chose the first classes I did. i.e. Gen Bio I and II, Gen Chem I and II, etc.

The prompt is pretty clear in my opinion. If you have something to say that hasn't been mentioned elsewhere on your app or AMCAS, you have the option to talk about it if you want. Otherwise, they do not want to see anything that would be seen elsewhere on your application.

Mhmm...so I mentioned that my minor is "Medical Anthropology"...and wanted to expand on that and how important it is to me. Would that be appropriate? It's really not mentioned at all in any other part...besides the listing as a "Minor."

Any input? It shouldn't hurt right? I feel like it fits in really well with their mission statement and approach to holistic care.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If you think it's something that could add to your application, why not? If you haven't elaborated on its importance anywhere else in your app and it fits with their mission statement, I think that could make for a great essay.

last year applicants started to hear back about Interview Invites on July 18th (after submitting the first day or two the secondary opened)!! What are the chances OUWB is as quick to respond this year?! I hope they do...

Does anyone's application also say your reference is received, but the LOR and the complete status have red exclamation points?

got rejection email today. IS, 32, 3.81 cGPA, 3.75 sGPA🙁

Wow you have pretty good stats to get rejected so early!

Condolenses!

Thanks guys, pretty shocked/disappointed
Verified 7/2
Good clinical, volunteer, research as well, goes to show can't expect anything for granted

Don't get too dejected over it. Had a few friends with much better stats/ECs than me get straight up rejected from OUWB. Remember the med school app process is pretty much a crapshoot.

What's that link where you can track how many interviews have been offered, etc?

nvm found it

first post. Troll?

could be. last year the first (reported) rejection was 8/7, almost 3 weeks after the first acceptances (EDIT: INTERVIEW INVITES!) (7/18). doesnt mean much tho either way. good luck to everyone applying!

By acceptances you mean interviews right? 😛

They have a pretty annoying LoR requirement (committee letter, no matter how many letters it includes only counts for 2/3 of the LoR requirements). I had to get another letter on top of committee letter, so maybe that's why for the rejection.

I can't imagine that unless the letter says something bad...

Secondary submitted, just waiting on LOR! Hoping for some IS love from OUWB!

I'm confused, I only submitted a committee letter (made up of 7 letters) and their system gave me a green check.. Should I call them to make sure?

Likewise. I would also like to know the answer to this. Seems kind of ridiculous that I would have to submit additional letters when I have 6 of them attached to my committee letter.

i think you all misinterpreted their requirement.

per their website: "If your premedical advising office provides a committee letter compiling feedback from multiple sources, this letter will count as two of your three required letters of recommendation."

they are referring to the committee letter itself, not the packet. ie if your pre-medical director himself wrote a letter that incorporates feedback from multiple sources, that is 2/3, and i imagine the other individual letters in your packet would fill the leftover 1/3 and then some

at least that was how i interpreted it...

You're probably right - I went back and reread the emails I sent asking (I basically said I had a committee packet that had a letter + 5 additional letters) and reading the response again, it seems like they just gave me a copy + paste instead of responding to my individual situation. The person just said they needed a committee letter and at least one addition, which I interpreted as saying that my letters weren't sufficient. I don't know if anyone has emailed them about this - I read some people had this problem in last year's thread and freaked out and assumed the worst. Sorry for the confusion!

Do they e-mail you regarding II or rejections? Or is there somewhere on the secondary site that tells you?
