2014-2015 University of Arizona Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who got interview invites, what pics did y'all submit before scheduling the interview? I know not to submit an image of myself smashed at a college bar with a pitcher of Jack+Coke, but I don't have a professional headshot or anything like that to use. Did any successful applicants simply find a "nice" picture to submit and have it accepted just fine?

My photo was not a passport style photo. I had a photo that I professionally took at the beach (took the photo awhile ago). I was wearing a simple white dress, and cropped it to include just my head and shoulders.

On another note, I live in AZ and my CEO at the research lab I work at said the U of A medical school recently was sold, but the U of A is still going to manage it. Does anyone know anything about this? I can't find anything on the internet.
UAHN was a separate entity from the UA, just as now too will be the BUMC hospital affiliated with the UA COM. Banner will be pumping money into the college and providing much needed strategic leadership for the hospitals and clinics. It's a good thing. Either way, Banner will have no direct control over the college or any other UA activity.

OSS here in Tucson for the Pre-Reception and interview tomorrow. Anyone else here?

Good luck! Do you know how many people UACOM-Tucson interviewed today? Did they happen to tell you how many people they plan on interviewing this year? Also, I am still waiting to hear back from UACOM-Tucson.

Anybody know how many people UACOM-Tucson is planning on interviewing this cycle? I know the last interview day is coming up soon! Hope everyone is having a nice weekend!
Upper limit: 80 applicants per interview date x 9 interview dates = 720 interviewees
Lower limit: 60 applicants per interview date x 9 interview dates = 540 interviewees
Last cycle according to MSAR: 604 interviews

I'd say they're probably close to last cycle's interview numbers realistically, despite a large spike in applications.

I remember reading that last year's cycle was delayed/extended. Hopefully we won't have to wait as long.

Has anyone heard any whisperings of a round of decisions soon?
I sent an email yesterday to admissions asking whether or not they know when the final decisions will go out and whether another round of acceptances will go out before that. Still waiting for a reply.

I interviewed on February 7th. One of the students said that there were a set number of applicants accepted from each interview group and that those acceptances usually go out about a month after the date that you interview. If you aren't accepted at that point, chances are you see a whole bunch of deferral emails until late March when they make a final accept/wait list/reject decision.

Not sure if that is 100% true, just something that was relayed during my interview.

Anyone knows or has any ideas as to how many acceptances UA-Tucson has sent so far?

Unfortunately, no, just that it was the same for each interview group, so late interviewers have basically the same chance as early interviewers to be accepted.

So It's safe to assume that if I haven't gotten an invite by now that it's pretty much full....

Does anyone know any details about the second look weekend April 16-18? Or your experience if you attended it last year. I won't be able to go all of the days so I was wondering what generally would be going on each day (they haven't put out an official schedule yet)

From what I've heard, second look weekend in the past has been 3 distinct days of different activities. Thursday was a [later] half-day event, followed by all day Friday, and another [early] half-day Saturday. Thursday is an introduction of sorts, Friday is an in-depth explanation of the school, clubs, student life, etc., and Saturday is an "activity" day to meet & greet your future classmates/professors/dean.
Based on that, I'd say Friday is your best choice if you could only do one. 🙂

has anyone received an interview invite after they got the email a few weeks ago that said "Your application is considered competitive and we would like to give it a thorough review for a possible interview invite."???

I wish : / when do we lose hope from that tease?

Any current students and/or applicants know how many people UA - Tucson has accepted so far?

It feels like I've been wearing blue and red everyday for good luck. Hard to do when you attend a rival (maroon & gold) university.

Huh? There is no rival university, there is only UofA.

latest

There are 45 people that joined the Facebook 2019 UACOM page... However, at least 10 are current students. I don't know what that really means though.
Yea, I looked at the FB group, but I'm sure UA-Tucson has accepted way more than 35-45 student so far 🙂 I really, really, really hope to join that group soon 🙂

So for those of us waiting preinterview...I suppose it's safe to say there's no chance of getting an II for the last day by now. So sad... :\

Does anybody know if the 1/23 interviewers should be hearing back next week?
