2014-2015 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If I have a poster, should I put a link to a pdf of the poster in my personal dropbox account?

Secondary completed 7/1, status still listed as "Completed". Praying for an II! Does anyone know if Davis re-reviews applications throughout the cycle?

Neither have i.. This is the only UC school I havent heard back from

Yeah, I've already gotten secondaries from SD, UCI, and UCR. Does UCD give pre-secondary rejections, or are they just silent?

Blah come on Davis, interview me! I'm pretty, I swear!

AMCAS Verified on 7/11, secondary received 7/27!

I also have a great LoR from the chief of neuropathology at the ucla med school. Maybe it will help?

Why don't you just apply and see!? Honestly, what the point in asking people if you should apply. If you would like to attend then go ahead and apply and stop worrying about it. If you get a secondary than that's great, you past the first cut and can worry about getting an interview. I would just apply and not worry about if you are gonna get in or not.

Also the prompt is different but pretty much similar to ucr if you applied there as well.

Wooooo! Congratulations to all the new IIs! 😀 California love is a precious, precious thing to have. 😍

Davis seems to be sending these things out pretty steadily – though I have that awful, nagging feeling that I didn't make their cut. Tip of the hat to Davis for being quick and constant with their invites.

Fingers crossed Davis shows me some love this week too!

I'm hoping they have more IIs saved up for this week. Best wishes for your app!

According to last year's thread, UCD pretty much had silent rejections. Think we should assume the same for this year?

Do you know on average how long has to wait for a silent rejection? Does this mean waiting 3 weeks post secondary?

Some people on here got their invite after more than 3 weeks, I think you have to wait a lot longer than that to assume a rejection.

Congrats!!! When were you complete? Davis is one of my top choices. Hoping I can maybe get one too.

I was complete on 7/23. Do not be discourage, though. I do not have spectacular numbers, nor do I have the perfect set of extracurriculars. I was completely cut off guard an interview invite from UC Davis.

That's awesome. I was complete on 7/22 :/ but I'm still hoping I can land an interview here. I love NorCal

Does anyone know the % interviewees that are accepted (including waitlist)?

So I just got an interview invite but there was only one day available. Unfortunately, I am already interviewing at another school on that day. Have people run into this problem before? What is the right thing to do in this situation?

Sorry to double post. Are there any other recent IIs that have tried to schedule a date. I am now finding that there are no options at all. Is this typical of Davis to do? I guess I am a little worried about the whole scheduling thing and finding a way to fit in UCD.

I received my II this morning and there were no dates available for the first couple hours. Then one date was available and I selected it, thinking I would have the option to change it later if any earlier dates became available. It turns out the portal doesn't let you change dates once you select one. Slightly tangential, but I guess my point is that I saw earlier you had a conflict on the one available date. I'm guessing they're opening up slots and dates gradually. Keep checking back and I bet you'll see another available date that hopefully doesn't conflict with your other interview.

Thanks for the reply. Best of luck at the interview!

I normally wouldn't care but seeing those II's awarded to students who were complete after me leads me to assume the worst.
I'm right there with you guys. I was completed on the 7th and I haven't heard anything.

I feel you guys. Starting to hear back from other schools but nothing from UC Davis :/

+1

I think I'm in for a very long wait given Davis's propensity for silent rejections. Sadly, I presume our apps have already been looked over. Last year the hold/"interview wait-list" status was sent out late July (even before IIs started!), so I'm not sure if they're doing away with that this year. 🙁

For those with IIs: congratulations and good luck!

Congrats to all those who got an II and stay hopeful to those who haven't! I submitted extremely late last year and was able to secure an II on their very last interview day, and considering that was in November with the II in February, we're WAY ahead of the curve for now. Just sit back, relax, watch some Scrubs, make some dough, and enjoy life. The ball is in their court!

Odd question but I heard (note I have no idea how valid this is) that UCD doesn't prefer students intended on entering academic medicine. Is that true? Did anyone that got an II mention that academic medicine would be their interest?

I did. I am a stats/research heavy applicant. I have also heard that Davis is much less interested in super academic applicants.

I wrote that I was interested in academic medicine (I want to eventually become a clinical professor and teach medicine) in both my personal statement and part of a secondaries question. UC Davis is my top choice school, so I was very fortunate to receive an II (=.
