2014-2015 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's really no set time for acceptance calls. I never even got a call last year, just an acceptance email which got the job done ; ) If anyone has questions about Davis as you are making your decisions on where to go please post, I think there's a few current UCD students watching out for you all on hear and we'd love to help : )

Hello all. First time poster. Lots of great info on here, don't know why I didn't get on SDN sooner! I was hoping someone could shed some light about interview scheduling. I submitted secondary in mid-August and received II early-September. I scheduled for a January interview because those were the only dates available. Is it normal for interview dates to be filled up until that far out from the II date? This should have struck me as odd at the time, but for some reason I didn't think about it until recently.

Btw, congrats to all those accepted! And for those still waiting for secondaries/II/interviews...may the med school gods bless us soon.

Definitely makes sense since we have finals early December and then are off for a few weeks. So really it's only a few interview slots before you (Davis only interviews on Friday). Kick major booty ; )

During my interview they told us that we will hear back in 2 weeks, if it has been longer than 2 weeks is it a rejection?

The dean did mention something about a conference, and thus they might actually be calling 2-4 weeks after the interview.

Ok thank you, I feel a little relieved now.

For those who got accepted, what time did you get the call? And if you were rejected post-interview, what time did your email come in? I'm going CRAZY waiting for some form of communication from them!!!

Sorry for the delayed response but @eleventy has all the same info as me, so just read that response.

II today. So grateful. Is it likely an interview spot will open up before February? I wasn't sure if I should just take it or wait a bit for an earlier one to appear. Are updates to the interviews made weekly or more frequently?

Interviewed on 10/24. Acceptance Call 11/8.

Been complete here since 7/2.

Does anyone know if UC Davis is good about sending out rejections quickly or if they just send out bulk rejections at the end of the cycle? Would love to interview here but it's not looking too good.

I interviewed here last year and was waitlisted (got the interview invite 2 weeks after my secondary had been submitted). This year I submitted in August and still haven't heard anything 🙁 Silent rejection? Didn't feel like interviewing someone they had waitlisted last year? 🙁 So sad.

We got quoted 3 weeks on the 10/31 interview

Gotta say guys, kinda losing hope. Fingers crossed though. I hope we get some news soon.

II last Friday, IS, LizzyM 71, March was the earliest date available. Does anyone know if they allow applicants to reschedule if an earlier spot opens up?

I called the admissions office about this in August because they were scheduling for interviews in November and they said that you can message them through the applicant portal in order to be put on a waitlist for an earlier interview if a spot opens up.

II as well just now?!!! Complete 8/23. Got outright rejected last cycle.

Congrats!

But dang, they're barely reviewing August's applications?! That makes September applicants like me feel even more hopeless 🙁

I was complete last year in late September and got rejected. Hopefully your luck would be better than mine.

Any one applying to PSTP hear back with interview dates? The website mentions that the last interview dates are in November, but the admissions office has just informed me that the last dates are in February.

LM 64 complete 8/19

do you mind if I ask if you are URM? I was complete in late August and have a 67.5 LM, still haven't heard back, but I'm "ORM" (Asian, IS). :/ Really, really hoping to get an II this week.

also, congrats

edit: nvm, I saw your mdapps info that says you're African.

Any calls from the dean recently??

Nothing on my end. Glued to my phone, will probably fuse to it on Friday
Darn, please keep us posted!
I'm really hoping we don't have to wait until after the holidays.

When I interviewed last Friday 11/14, they told us the next committee meeting would be in two weeks (~11/28). They also said with the holidays coming up, they might not get to it until after Thanksgiving week. One of the admissions staff was (only half) joking that Dr. Sousa would be calling people with phone in one hand and turkey in the other ahaha

Thanks for the info! The wait is killing me :|

Just wanted to share some hope with those still under review. I got an II very early on this cycle at Davis (1st or 2nd interview dates as options). I am not URM, IS, GPA was 3.7c/3.65s, MCAT was 31 (with 7 on VR). Anything is possible if you find out what makes you special and present it in a very genuine, sincere way. I spent a lot of time on Davis secondaries. I think I did very poorly on the MMI, which is why I didn't get accepted, but I just wanted to show everyone that numbers will only hold you back so much. There are real people reading your applications, not machines who will screen you out for any one particular score. Yes, there are standards, but if you meet those standards you are easily as qualified as the next applicant. Make yourself stand out in a positive way, make the AdCom see you as someone they would want treating their family as a physician. Best of luck to everyone!

thanks for sharing! just curious- what makes you think you did horrible on the MMI? I found that it is difficult to tell personally.

Thanks, man. I'm ORM, IS, GPA 3.66, sGPA 3.61, MCAT 31 (9VR) and I'm really hoping to hear back from them. My secondary was complete late august and the silence is killing me.

It was just hard to be myself with all the pressure.

No word on my end. Anyone from the 10/31 interview hear back?
PSA: Area codes 916 and 530 are the ones to keep an eye out for 😉

Nothing here as well. I was hoping we would hear back before Thanksgiving. 🙁
