2014-2015 University of California - Irvine Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have big drop in my gpa during my junior year though. I raised it back in my senior year, but that could have been a huge red flag.

Don't worry, you should be fine!

I'll update once I hear back. My biggest drop
Was sophomore year but brought it back up. At least I'm glad that it seems like they give you an answer quickly.

Yeah, I submitted 07/17 and received the decision 07/25

Complete 7/18. Hoping to get an II here since it's my alma mater, but seeing all these post-secondary rejections from people with higher stats than me makes me lose hope ): At least they don't string you along till March.

They do give some people final statuses pretty quickly, but don't expect that to be the case for everyone. I was actually strung along until March when I applied haha. If you don't hear anything, then they just haven't made a decision yet. They don't hold people that they know they are going to reject. I think that some people get reviewed and then placed in a "review later" pile that will be looked at again for a later interview!

On the interview instructions it says to e-mail passport sized photos, does anyone know if we do this before or after the interview?

Before. Or you can bring your passport photos with you with your name/amcas number written on the back and they pass out envelopes for you to put them in. I sent mine before but also brought some with me jic.

Is anyone else looking at the "personal accomplishments" (What personal accomplishment are you most proud of and why?) question as implying a non-academic activities?

For any med students at irvine or anyone familiar with the school: What does UCI emphasize with their students? Are they more focused on research, community service, global health, etc? I want to get a better feel from the school and I can't seem to find anything on the website. Any insight?

For questions that say only for people who already have their degree, I was just missing one class this year so I'm going to take like one class in the Fall quarter and get my degree then. I have already started my gap year activities, should I just talk about my new activities with the disclaimer that I haven't yet gotten my degree yet?

I would do that! Keeps them updated and technically since you've done everything else except one class I would put it in.

This thread was so exciting for a while, why did they stop rejecting and inviting these past few weeks haha?
No more invites left? Lol.

I really hate the silence though. I keep hoping I'll just hear back from them soon.

Received secondary on 7/14, submitted 7/16, still under review today (8/5). 3.45/37/ORM/from Orange County

Just anecdotal evidence here, but I was told that UCI has fewer interview days (once every 1-2 weeks), but interviews a large number of people (~40) on each day. Thus far, the only people I've talked to with an II were scheduled for their first two dates (last week of Aug, second week of Sept). Don't think UCI has released IIs for their later dates yet.

Maybe they stagger the II releases so they can fill up each day in order? They may be holding off to see more of the applicant pool to compare apps. Hope good news is released soon! *Disclaimer: this is entirely speculation on my end. Please take this with a very large grain of salt.*

Anybody else go from "Under Review" under Interview Status, to a blank box? It's been under review since 7/17, and today went blank… no emails...

Someone earlier in the thread said that it went blank and then later got rejected, but I don't know if that will happen in all cases.

That happened to me and I was rejected. :[

Still under review since 7/14.. grr

You are correct lol..

Yeah my paranoia's been making me think: "Maybe they don't give a **** about me."
Please love me Irvine, or any other school that has me under review..

Just got the interview hosting email... though I already booked a nonrefundable hotel room. -____- Ooops.

FYI: they have 15 interview dates (all Mondays) starting 8/25 and going until 4/27, so there's bound to be a lot of II action in the future.

Inside information: There is serious discussion about decreasing the requirements for mandatory attendance! I know some people consider the attendance policy here one of the drawbacks... so I thought I'd spread the good new 🙂

To all the MS1 hopefuls that have gotten interviews, are still waiting, or have been rejected, best of luck this app season! This process is illogical in every sense of the word... Some schools will love you, others will hate you, and others more will not even read your application all the way through. Such is life! Put faith in the process and I'm certain you will end in a place that, as people often nebulously say, "fits".

can you tell whether if the school received the letters on their secondary page?

I have the same question, also my application says "under review" for interview but I know my committee letter hasn't been sent yet... will they review your secondary and/or offer interviews before receiving your committee letter of recommendation?
