2014-2015 University of Colorado Application Thread

Agreed, but what is confusing for me is that on the website that the deadline to register for second look day is on the 23rd (Monday). So you would think they would release decisions before then, so everyone who is accepted has a chance to attend..
Where did you see the 23rd deadline for second look registration?

I'll fill in a little bit. We do have a new dean of admissions this year and there are going to be a few changes to the process compared to last year. It is actually a good thing for you all. one of the cool things about the school is how receptive administration is to feedback. Probably unsurprisingly, there was plenty of feedback regarding the communication (or lack thereof) between the administration and those pre-meds eagerly waiting for the call/email/smoke signal/anything to ease their anxiety during the obnoxiously long wait period. The new dean was very receptive and did assure us that there would be improvements this year.

The class of 2018 had 184 students matriculate, and your class will probably remain somewhere around there.

Good luck!

Was thinking back to this post from october-ish, lol at the bolded... Anyway, at this point I wouldn't be surprised is March comes and goes and we are still sitting in the dark. Just trying to manage my expectations at this point. But hay don't get me wrong, I still love you CU!

Two years ago I had to wait til March 29 to find out I was waitlisted. I can't believe they're still doing this to applicants.

Yes, so I double checked and there will be more acceptances on Monday and Tuesday (3/30-31) ...if not accepted then you are pretty much on the wait list and they will repeat the high/low list (again the low being practically a reject). They still expect the wait list to be out much sooner than last year. Though now that I think of it, I should have asked if next weeks acceptances can go to 2nd look day seeing as the deadline to register is today...but I can't imagine they would tell you that you can't go seeing as that it is not until April 10th. Either way, good luck!

This wait has been really hard on family and myself. Hopefully we get some good news then. Good luck everyone

Does this mean there will be no acceptances going out this week? Thank you for the information!

I will still watch my phone...but they specifically said Monday and Tuesday so I am leaning towards no calls this week. (Plus I know for certain that calls went out 3/31 last year if any patterns repeat) oh and MSTP revisit activities this Friday

I've been lurking on this thread for far too long, but I want to share a few things to put things in context and hopefully put some minds at ease.

The reason "there is no communication" is because there isn't anything substantive to communicate. When the admissions committee says that they use a "holistic" review process, they actually mean it. They look at every single file completely and multiple times during the application cycle. Acceptances these days go out periodically and the committee meets periodically. Some days there is 1 call, some days a few, some days none. They are literally filling the last 40-60 spots in the class one at a time, and conservatively. As such, it takes time, and no one can say what the timetable is for finding out your fate. The positive side to this is that the next application that gets reviewed could be yours, that you could get a call any day.

The waitlist will be finalized by the end of March, and the expectation is that there will be a lot of movement off of it. However, this movement can extend as far as July, so plan accordingly.

I know that the impression a lot of people have about CU admissions isn't entirely positive because of the wait+silence, but my own experiences clearly showed me how much they care about each individual applicant. There is a reason why the community at this school is arguably its greatest aspect: the process for admitting new members to it is extremely selective. Personally, I had lost all hope for even getting an interview until I got the email in February. Then I just waited, and one seemingly whimsical day I got the acceptance call.

Don't worry about registration for 2nd Look Day being over; you can email Vidal and he will get you registered.

To all those waiting: when the journey is over, I hope that you find what you want, what you wish for, and what you deserve.

Thank you for this! 🙂

I have always been curious as to what the dialogue is like at the AdCom meetings, and how much that discussion differs at a time soon after they interview a candidate versus when they go back and look at everybody. At the time of my interview, I was under the impression that candidates were evaluated the same day as their interview, but this process demonstrates the thoroughness and care they put into reviewing all applications. I hope we all are able to be a member of this finely curated group of students, if not this year then the next (or the next..).

Maybe the AdCom meetings are like this? (Joke to ease the anticipation I am sure a lot of us are feeling)

Thanks for that. Totally made me laugh. It was much needed.

If you are on the wait list or are rejected, do you get a call? Or is it only people who get acceptances who get calls?

Vidal emailed today and said that 120 students are attending second look...which seems like a low number...so likely more acceptances will be given out!

Just got placed on the alternate list. Top priority, which is apparently the top 1/3 of the waitlist. Good lucks guys. I'm glad to have finally heard something

What was the context of this? It seems like if he was urging more people to sign up, then I wonder if all acceptances are out? You should reply, saying send out the rest!

Personal rejection calls could be a bit awkward. Last year they sent letters to everyone on the wait list.
At this point, I just want some information. I'll take a personal rejection call if it means I finally have some information (although a personal acceptance call would be even better).

Same here, well I suppose this will be more hoping, praying, and waiting. This part of the email: "Your position is in the top one-third of our alternate list. Although we cannot tell you your individual position, nor can we guarantee you a place, there is a high probability that you will receive an offer." does sound promising though.

Alternate list. Top 1/3 of waitlist. Too bad they don't accept update letters. My application has been stronger since applying in June, and I'm gung-ho about their CU-UNITE track and a new intervention the state of Colorado and clinicians at the Anschutz campus have worked together on to improve chronic pain management.

Top third alternate list for me as well. Good luck everyone!

I just got emailed that I'm on the alternate list as well. Also top 1/3. Time to wait some more and start my application for next year just in case.

Guessing since I haven't gotten that it's probably not good news coming this way. Well good luck everyone

Waitlisted top 1/3rd. Trying to be happy- I have heard they cruise through the wait list pretty quick here though. Fingers crossed!!

I have not personally heard anything about acceptance calls Ka-Pow but this part of their email: "The University of Colorado School of Medicine Executive Admissions Committee has completed its evaluation of applicants for the 2015 entering class." does seem to carry the connotation that they might be done with acceptances and moving on to just waitlist now but maybe I am reading in to it to much.

I got the same vibe

Really confused and disheartened here, ugh. No email, which would imply that I don't even have a place on the waitlist, which I just don't understand. I had figured up to this point that I could at least count on THAT, just on sheer merit of scores etc. Not really sure what else to say.

As has been said its also just as likely that people that didn't get an email have already been accepted and they are just doing calls tomorrow since its already 5 pm, keep hope. We don't know what we don't know.

I had this thought as well, but I wasn't sure whether it was just wishful thinking or not. Good to see a few other people had the same thought, makes it feel less far-fetched.

I can only hope for that call tomorrow. My biggest concern is making it through the night. The anxiety might kill me.

No WL email here either... not knowing if that's good or bad is going to be killer for the next 12-24 hours... hoping with the rest of you for a call tomorrow.

Edit to add: for those waitlisted, have hope, they did specifically say that there would be more waitlist movement this year than in years past, I hope that's true!

So...what is curious is that if they have the top 1/3 email, and they have the middle email...then they should know everyone's status right? Optimistically we really should all know very quickly...

Defintiely, the good news is we all should hear back very soon. But what makes my stomach flip-flop is that if all of the WL emails went out today, then not getting one should mean you're either accepted, or rejected... big difference there haha. But, as before... now, we wait. Best of luck to you all!

Yes, I was thinking the same thing...too big of a difference for comfort =/
but yes, good luck, and I am happy for those that have heard...I hope that the wait list turns out to be short for you

Top third alternate list as well. Good luck everyone!

Middle third and OOS. I assume there are two WL (IS and OOS)? Last year reads like WL movement didnt make it out of the top third... I guess I'll hold out some hope but "hurray wait till Aug to get a final answer, thats only another 4 months..."

Last year the wait list was only divided into two thirds: high alternate and low alternate.
