2014-2015 University of Illinois Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry if this is already answered, but what's the difference between "applicant in progress" and "applicant in process"? I've been in process since 9/23.

Wait, is the consensus then that if you interviewed October 3 and haven't had a status change yet that you're being waited on?! This is so sad! I thought for sure I would hear back. Uic is my dream and now I feel like I'm not getting in

For all of us who are interviewing in Chicago does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Any input would be appreciated

The interview day at Chicago was very chill and someone will walk you to all of your interviews so don't worry about being late or lost to go to your interviews! And the student interviewer asked a lot of the basic and general questions that I expected and the two faculty interviewers asked me about a lot of situational "what if this happened, how would you react/handle the situation?" questions that you can't really prepare for. So I'd just say relax, be yourself, and know what you stand for and you should be totally fine. Good luck! 🙂

Interviewing here 11/18 @ Chicago campus

Any tips 🙂?

Hi, the interview was very conversational in general. I say in general because 2 out of 3 were very chilled.. one interviewer asked me more about ethical issues... I still enjoyed talking to him though... if you are open and honest.. they are all enjoyable 🙂 just be relaxed, talk to the med students and be very friendly.

Has anyone interviewed at Urbana? Its the only location they dont have listed on the UIC interview page...I had to track down my paper letter to even find the address of where to go 😛

Does anyone have any tips about interviewing in Rockford/panel style interviews?

Bump...can anyone comment on this? Also, how was the stress level? Trying to decide if the panel format is less intimidating than having 3 one on one interviews!

As mentioned by other SDNers, the interview day was relatively laid back. Take the time to really get to know the students and the school. During your lunch and tour you have the opportunity to interact with a variety of students so make sure you speak with them because it's a fantastic way to begin feeling out the school from a student's perspective. One of the individuals I had a chance to informally speak with ended up being one of the people that interviewed me later on! Don't stress about the interviews. I found the interviewers to be very down to earth and easy to talk to. They're just trying to get to know you better on a more personal level so I wouldn't expect any trick questions. The three individuals I interviewed with were all very friendly and personable. They'll definitely be interested in hearing about some of your experiences, your pursuit of medicine, and ambitions for doing so. Good luck! 🙂

So I just thought of something.. does this school wait list before May 2? Outside of Decision Pending, where they keep deferring you to the next meeting, and rejection/acceptance, are there any other possibilities?

Also, has anybody with the Final Decision Made status + Additional Correspondence received the CBC email yet?

No cbc email yet for me, and the admissions person on my interview day said they don't make the waitlist until the end. I'm not sure if this is 100% correct, but I believe they keep deferring "decision pending" candidates until the next meeting every month until a decision can be made.

For anyone else that got their final decision + additional correspondence last Thursday, did anyone receive the email or mail packet? I live an hour away....

I'm pretty close by as well. I was almost kind of hoping to see something in the mail today, but I haven't received anything yet. :/

I live 40 min. away in the suburbs - nothing in e-mail/mail yet, either 🙁

I also live ~30 minutes away from the school and nothing for me yet as well

Nope. I don't think they have sent it out yet.

September interview, still pending. Feeling very unloved.

The September and October interviews probably got lumped together in the same pile, and the status changes and letters will be getting sent out in batches. That is my guess. However, it also may indicate that you are on "hold."

According to previous threads from past years, it looks like most people took getting the additional correspondence status change as a good sign (IE an acceptance). But it is impossible to know for sure.

I've been complete since around August 14 and I have been sitting at "applicant in process" for 4 weeks now. What gives, state school? 🙁

I was in progress since Aug 12; and finally "in process." I'm hoping for some good news!!

Stupid question, but a verified amcas automatically sends your primary to the schools on the app, right?

Then why is uic taking over a week and a half to give me their primary?
Ps don't laugh at me for applying late

Because they do things based on a schedule. Meaning they will send out another wave of secondaries soon, they won't do it on a person by person basis.

One thing I will say is that I noticed the DO schools are extremely quick with getting secondaries out and issuing interviews/acceptances/rejections. This isn't really UIC being slow, it's 90% of the MD schools.

I've been applicant in process since mid-July. I'm IS as well :grumpy:

forgive me if this is obvious, but how do I check status?

What are your stats or LizzyM, if you don't mind me asking? It could be that we're similar

My LizzyM is between 69-71. I have a ton of clinical experience, some research, very strong LOR, and a little bit of a nontraditional twist to my story. All the schools I've heard from are OOS strangely enough.

Yeah. You and I are nearly identical minus a publication and not as much clinical experience. Good luck

Out of those waiting for mailed letters to come in, did anyone hear anything today?

Nothing here either. The waiting continues...

I'm just gonna cry because though my stats are decent, I applied so late and I have a major red flag. Gg

II today!

Complete 7/16
Applicant in Progress until 9/30
Applicant in Process from 9/30-10/30
Interview scheduled for 1/21

(No dates left for 2014 and only a few left in 2015 but they are opening more after January)

Has anyone gotten anything yet?

According to the thread from last year, people started getting their letters on the 29th, 30th and 31st. And some peoples status changed yesterday (such as the above poster), making me think that they would have sent the letters out yesterday, meaning we might get something today.

If they sent the letters out yesterday then they should arrive next week.... I know by a fact they use the regular snail mail which takes up to 7-10 days to deliver... my patience is being tested more than what is necessary lol good luck to you all!

Yeah, but according to the past three years of threads, the letters all arrived on the 29th, 30th, or 31st of October. So regardless of when they were sent, I think we should know something by today or tomorrow (hopefully).
