Congrats! and thats whay i did.

seems like their class and accepting people is pretty much chock full...is there any chance anyone interviewing a few weeks from now will be accepted?

I turned in my preference card in person and got my site placement in the mail a few days later. Hopefully it will expedite the process for you, too! Good luck!

Just curious, are you getting specific numbers from somewhere that makes you say that? For our group, Dr. Girotti was straightforward that it's harder to get your preferred site at this point, but he didn't say anything else really on the topic. I'm not sure about those that interview after Feb. 19th (the next adcom meeting(?)) but I imagine they wouldn't be interviewing if there is no chance!

Has anyone received a Chicago placement recently? I am sending my placement card tomorrow and am just curious.

Just curious, how hard is it to get Peoria?
I interviewed in Peoria early January. We took I-55 S from the west suburbs of Chicago. I thought it was pretty clear and easy to get there!

Chicago's not filled yet right!?! I'm also applying to gmed or umed since I have an interest in global health so hopefully that helps!

This probably has been answered before...if that's the case, I apologize! Does being placed in the Chicago Track guarantee that you are in Chicago M1 through M4? I remember a student tell us that you'd be in Chicago for the pre-clinic years and can be switched to other campuses for M3-M4. Thanks!

Hi guys, just scheduled my interview for Rockford on the 2/26. I did this because I also have another one at Rosy on 2/25 and I hope the transition from MMI to panel does not throw me off lol. It seems like I am one of the last batches and that is kind of scary but still awesome to the get the opportunity to interview. What are the pros and cons of interviewing 30 min at Rockford vs 90 min at say Chicago? At least that is what I am getting from postings on this site. Good luck to you all who are waiting and congrats to those who received acceptance/interview.

Has anyone written/emailed thank you notes after interviewing? I interviewed at UIC yesterday and it looked like the interviewers handed in their assessments almost immediately after the session. Will writing a letter now make a difference?

I don't think there's that much of a difference, it's really about how well you perform in front of a panel vs. individuals. For the panel, you don't have to have as many questions prepared, which could definitely be a plus for some 😉 More interviews = more diversity for questions they ask of you but that can go either way. But I think the main point is that there are three different people submitting their evaluations of you, and that's all that really matters in their evaluation.

Also, since people keep asking (and probably still will keep asking...oh well), again, people interviewed in January and February last year and got Chicago. There are usually places open throughout the process to get an even class but I suppose it depends on who happens to be holding and withdrawing from their spot too once it gets really late, like into March or so.

Hey guys, I have a question about UIC. I recently received my offer letter, and in the response letter, applicants must send complete transcript to the office of admissions. I already graduated last year, and earned my degree when I applied. Do I still need to submit my transcript again? Do they still do a final review of the transcript/grades?

Thanks for the feedbacks! I definitely agree with your sentiment that it all depends on the interviewee and how he/she is being perceived. I hope it all works out and I will try to do my best regardless. Good luck!

Anyone else still waiting for an II? Haven't heard back from them yet.

Yes, application completed late August, "applicant in process" since at least mid-September.

+1 . Complete early September. My status was "applicant in progress" for a long time before it changed to "applicant in process" a couple of months ago but I don't know if that is really significant. I am wondering if this school is one that waits until the end to reply and reject the ones who have not gotten a response or if they reject silently. Their interview season is supposedly August-March though so there is a wee bit of hope.

Does anyone know when the AdCom meeting is this month? I think it's supposed to be on the 19th, but February is short, so I'm wondering if they will push it to the 26th.

Looks like last year the February meeting was on the 3rd Thursday like normal. (Except last year the statuses didn't change online until the following Monday, which was odd. Can't say for sure what will happen this year.)

Sorry if this topic has already been addressed, but I don't have the endurance to read through the last couple of pages :/

To those who have been accepted and are planning on going to the Chicago location: what are you thinking of doing as far as living? I know they have college housing, but I think it would be really cool to just find and live in an apartment in the city. Any thoughts?

It is more preferable to live in apartments because they are cheaper, and most are very close to the school. I already know the area I want to live in, now I just need to find roommates.

I also read somewhere that most people who lived in the college housing regretted it, but that might just be because the unhappy crowd is more vocal than those that found it fine.

Hi, Thanks for your post. I was wondering which area you will be looking for housing in Chicago?

Hi, Thanks for your post. I was wondering which area you will be looking for housing in Chicago?

So the best areas to live in at least for the first 2 years if you are placed in Chicago I think would be : University village, little italy, Pilsen, medical district and even bridgeport.

(I've been living around the area for the past 7 years so i kind of know at least a bit.)

Thank you! Do you know a good website online where I could find potential roommate?

Craiglist Chicago is your best bet. There is also a website for UIC undergraduate students that helps you find apartments, roommates and such. Since the undergraduate and med school campuses are literally separated by a 15 min walking distance, you can find extremely close apartments/rooms/roommates

https://commuter.uic.edu/housing/

you can apply for a temporary account and check it out.

so i got my site preference today...and it was not my first, not my second, but my THIRD choice. Very upsetting especially since the COM really endorses that you'll get either your first two choices. Does anyone know the process for appealing to change this?

It sounds like most are trying for Chicago. I'm hoping Peoria is still available.

Sorry to hear that. I have heard multiple opinions on the topic. Some told me you could potentially submit a paper requesting a site change but they wont look at it until May. I have also heard some people who have gotten site changes already. I would call the office and ask about it. I would still submit a letter requesting a site change though... cant lose anything.

I have heard that too. Since there is a little under 2 months left to the season, I am going to submit an appeal but before call the office in the morning. I don't think Chicago is filled yet, so my concern is if spots are truly given based on your top choices, or randomly. I'm pretty upset though

Sorry to hear that. When did you turn in your site preference card, and are you IS or OS? I'm wondering if they take IS v OS into consideration when assigning placements.

Does anyone know how long people's/their portal stayed "Interview Scheduled for (DATE)-- Evaluation not Complete" after they have interviewed?

Got my site preference today, and it was my first choice.

To anyone with a better knowledge of Chicago, what are some cool neighborhoods to look into living in? Ideally, I wouldn't want it to be too expensive and no more than a 20-30 minute commute. I've heard some of the areas around UIC are a little less safe than others and it'd be good to consider this before starting my search. A more upbeat scene is a good plus! Any recommendations for a good starting point?

I answered a similar question back a few days ago. Also, areas near uic arent the safest but they are OK, specially the neighborhoods of university village and little italy. These two are very quite and pretty safe and they are 10-15min walking distance from the med school.

So sorry, doctor2be!! I'm in the same boat. This was hands down one of my top choices, fell in love with the people and the campus where I interviewed; was very surprised and disappointed by my site placement. Looks like it could be a long wait to see if another placement is an option. But congrats on your acceptance to an amazing program!

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone is starting to look for a room in Chicago already. I did some research, it seemed like having roommates is better option in terms of living conditions/cost. If anyone wants to look for rooms together, please message me. Thanks.

How have some people gotten site changes already? They told me they won't look at them before August 30th.

I'm also looking for people to room with in order to cut costs. It is wayyy too expensive living in a 1 BR apartment by yourself.

If anyone is interested pm me.

My mistake; I shouldnt spread rumors around. This is what I heard from some acquaintance. Do not take this as fact.

Does anyone know when the second look day is? And does every campuses' second look day occur on the same date?
