2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dream School. 34/3.9. In State. Do I have a shot? ORM Male.

Your stats are better than mine, and I start in August. See MDAPPS. Make sure you talk about your contributions to a team/group, and focus on your service/volunteer and what it cotributed to your decision to pursue medicine. DON'T EXCLUSIVELY USE "I" in your secondaries and interviews. Focus on what you can contribute to your class. Good Luck.

  1. Submit the $85 payment for your secondary application by using the link to PayPal. It can take up to 3 business days for this payment to be reflected on your status page so please have patience with our system! Thank you.

Has anyone else's app status changed to "Under review"?

Anybody else having difficulties logging into the secondary? I've already submitted, but I wanted to check whether my payment had processed and I wasn't able to.

Paid on Friday night, still not marked as received.

Same here. Before, all of my apps using the "AMP" application said they had received no letters. At least that's fixed now! 🙂

Is UMich focused on educating physicians, bench research, public health, etc? Should I focus my secondary essays on medically relevant activities (research, volunteer) or be more casual/unique (cooking, dancing)?

For the diversity one you probably want something that you can discuss as a direct advantage in a medical/educational setting, but I think the passion prompt is supposed to be a more personal essay that gives a strong impression of you as an individual. Obviously, the takeaway of your answer should probably be translatable to medicine in some way, but it seems open to artistic/athletic/miscellaneous subjects. Hope that helps a little.

When does AMCAS send our L.O.R?
Never mind

This is just about the opposite from all other secondaries I've had... they had my letters from day one but its the payment that's taking forever!

EDIT: Just got two emails saying my application fee has been received, maybe they just have a little glitch in their system.

The payment page has a little disclaimer at the top saying it may take up to two days to process, which probably explains the delay.

Did anybody see that UMich has already received over 2,000 apps... In the first week. Jeez.

Just received an update email... My status has changed to "File Complete - Under Review". I hope to hear good news next week!!

I'd like to think that they mean primaries.
Last year, I think some people got interview invites before completing their secondaries.

UMich used to do auto-invites for IS applicants with certain stats, I'm not sure if they did last cycle or are doing so this time.

Sent from my neural implant using SDN Mobile

So I got fee assistance through FAP -- will I get an email saying that my fee is waived? I submitted the secondary but haven't gotten any emails, and it still says "Credit Card Payment via Paypal" in the "Payment Options" section.

Michigan is very transparent in their admissions process which is greatly appreciated! Has anyone came across other schools that are similar to Michigan as far as transparency in admissions goes?

One thing I think I remember seeing is that you won't get a status update email until 5:00 even if you get an II. But if you check your status page it would show up at 2:40.

Changed to "File Complete - Under Review" today. Not sure if you have to get to that step before the II
