2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Right there with you, let's not give up hope. This is my top choice. Anyone know how many interview invites are left to go out?
They interview about 600 people, interviews from Sept - first week Feb, usually split 175 interviews for instate, 425 or so for out of state. Only 113 interviews given out so far, lots to go. 16 interview dates on Fridays. Hard to relax, but lots of time and interviews out there. Best wishes to all, and GO BLUE

complete mid july and received II in the last couple of days! My status was "under review" up until the interview.

gurrrl, you've been on fire. Did i not see you get another interview somewhere else earlier? congrats

Thank you! But I think you are confusing me with someone else. I didn't post about an interview anywhere else (although I did get another!). It feels good, especially since I am a re-applicant who got no interviews in my previous cycle.

Just noticed an II for myself as well!!!!! complete on the 7/20 so I totally thought I had been passed over!

II!!!!! only day available was in October, is this normal?

There were four September days available when I registered, but in any case it doesn't matter what month you interview.
Did you mean to post this in the Duke thread? I thought Michigan was rolling admission.

II received today (first one!), IS, LizzyM ~71

For those interested, I also applied as a "couple" with my significant other here. We haven't gotten an interview invite on his end yet, but we are crossing our fingers!

woah, that's a tough one. Good luck!

Congrats to all those with the good news! Still under review over here, hopefully we get some news soon (complete: 7/24)

Does anyone have the Excel file from last year's admissions tracker? It broke down the IS/OOS and even undergrad institution data for # applicants, # interviewed, and # offers. I can't seem to find it online anymore.

+1.

whoa, so it looks like much more than half of interviews get accepted. Is that normal for medical schools, or unique to U of M?
I know UVA accepts over 60% post-interview, so definitely not unique to Michigan. From using USNews to look up schools I'd say most schools are in that 40% range.

MIT and Duke kids do really well in interview. only 2 didn't get in.

honestly, I wouldn't read too much into which undergrad schools do well in interviews. It's almost certainly variance. It is interesting to see which undergrad schools get a lot of interviews though.

Tracker updated. I am surprised that they have only gotten about 400 new apps in two weeks

Holy s***. Somebody OOS applied with a 45 on the MCAT. I'm no expert, but isn't that somewhat unprecedented? I didn't even think 45's had been scored in recent memory, but I'm obviously wrong...

EDIT: Also, I'm genuinely curious to read the application/meet the applicant who submitted their primary with a 0.75 GPA. I'm starting to wonder if Umich edited their powerpoint, or if they accidentally have some typos...

+1 on the 0.75 GPA guy and I wonder if he also have an MCAT score of 7
Although last year I know for a fact that someone with a 45 MCAT has been interviewing around. I know because this guy interviewed with my professor who was super enthusiastic about meeting someone actually got a 45.

@gettheleadout thoughts?

It should be illegal to send teaser e-mails to applicants how have been sitting at "under review" for over a month. -___- Thankfully, it seems like there's still plenty of IIs to go around!

+2 Hollllyyy smokes. 45? I'm just going to tell myself that they probably failed the experimental section and didn't get an Amazon gift card so I can feel better about myself. 😉 UMich, I may not have a 45, but could you love me just the same?

People have and do score 45's, but by people I mean you could probably count them on one hand any given year, and there's no proof that anybody at all scores a 45 each year. Anyone with a basic understanding of test theory also realizes that scores at that extreme end of the scale are "blurry," a 14 represents equivalent test taker skill as a 15 at the very least. Am I jelly? Sure, scoring a 45 would be awesome! It's not going to be a magic ticket for an app anymore than any 99th+ percentile score is.

45's are rare but they happen. My older sister (who is a resident now) got a 43 on her MCAT.

seriously! How can she live with the results of so far from being perfect?!!!

lol the kicker is she barely even prepared for it. I think she had a couple different books and studied a couple weeks out. -___-
I did Kaplan, had as many books as I could get my hands on and studied for the better part of 6 months and she still smoked me.

Oh and she bombed two sections.
