2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've had that status for 3 weeks. At this point i'm afraid it'll stay like that for months. Not unlikely to happen.

+1

Slightly disappointed, considering some people got the "initial review complete" status. Meanwhile, I have no idea if my app has even been looked at yet... I'm assuming this may even be a sort of informal hold (re: different than the actual "hold" status), as they mentioned on the portal, so they can compare groups of applicants.

Ah well. It's all out of our hands. Hope a larger wave of IIs is soon to come!

EDIT: this is what I was referring to...
Reviews may take up to several months and could include some "on hold" time while we compare groups of applicants.

II today (!), complete 7/14. Never got "initial review complete" status, just the screening and then an II email/status change today. Also just found this site, so excuse the newb status!

also @hellanutella my status never changed to complete, I wouldn't worry! Even if you submitted early, I feel schools subdivide the apps in different ways so that they're not necessarily reviewing them in the order they arrived. You have an awesome app and I'm sure they'll be interested once they get there!

Awesome to hear that! This process will always be a mystery.

Congratulations on your interview – you're going to have an amazing time at 24 hours of blue!

:-/

It's still early in the cycle, so we should remain optimistic (at least that's what I'm telling myself)

Really hope I didn't screw up by submitting my secondary this late tho!

@ta8901 I wouldn't worry!! I still think any time in July (and even in to August) is considered early. 🙂

Hi guys! First post here! Do any of you know how they view "couples"? Are the applications linked? Could they interview one person but not the other? Thanks for all the help! Everyone will do great!

How long did you guys have to wait before it was acknowledged on your status that you paid the fee?

Submitted and complete on the 21st..... Has anyone gotten an II yet with a similar complete date? Does anyone know about how long the turn around has been?

Don't want to speculate, but so far their past 3 II batches have been sent out on Mondays... I think we're going to have to wait a few more days.
wish you out of the "under review limbo" by Monday.

Same to you!

This week has been slower than expected. Since they only gave out ~8 IIs this Monday (vs 50 each the two weeks before) maybe they have a whole mass of them saved up? ~oooooh speculation~

They just had a change of director...so I'd assume a lot of transitional work would have to be done before attending to the applications.

What did you guys put for the fun fact and other interests? The safest answers I feel most people will put are sports/arts/musical related, but I literally have none of these talents.

Last year, some folks put in fun things, like makes a mean omlet, roll a kayak, etc. Don't sweat it, it is just for fun.

Congrats! When did your email come in and when were you complete?
No email, just status update. Well, my primary was in 7/21, while my secondary and LOR was all in by 7/28. It could have been looked at before the secondary was in, not sure. 🙂 and thank you!!! Good luck to you!

The emails seem to get sent out several hours after the status update on the tracker page. Mine came in about 8 hours after I checked in the early morning.

Michigan also sends IIs based on the primary app, so that's the date you want to look for as far as turnaround time goes.

Same to you! I found out after I just finished seeing a doctor for extended flu. Danced a little on the street since this is my first interview

Haha mine too! I'm still at work, but needless to say, not much has gotten done this afternoon 😀

II invite received on 7/21! will be submitting secondary tomorrow (or today I guess - its pretty early in the morning right now).

So I looked back in previous threads and it seems that if your primary application was submitted before the date of which others have gotten II and you are under review, it is essential a hold with a few people getting II Nov/Dec but most told rejected in Jan. Here's to hoping I am wrong!

EDIT: I was wrong! Got an II on 8/8 had my primary in 7/2/2014 secondary in on 7/20🙂)))

Man, this is crushing. Can't say I'm completely surprised.

I, too read through all the last year's posts, I kind of agree but i got a different read. It seems that Michigan prioritize high stats (mean GPA 3.85, mean MCAT 38) students in the beginning then go review the rest later. So for the ones who are not at that range: plenty of hope it looks like--several matriculating students spoke about it. I guess the point is not to assume anything, especially this year the progress has already been very different from last year's systematic approach such as the 10:10 Tuesday announcement.
I wish you guys good luck!

This reminded me of undergrad application to UMich. They put so many people on hold at the beginning and then send out waitlist toward the end...I wouldn't worry about not getting interview invite so early in the cycle. Just relax...

Would those getting IIs mind sharing stats and if IS/OOS?

Thanks!

Mann I am IS, 3.9/37, no interview invite so far. Umich undergrad too. Primary verified early July and Secondary/completion late July. Hoping for some love soon! Status is still "under review."

OOS, 37/3.8+. Complete since 7/8, still "under review". I think I have to face the very real possibility that an interview might not be in the cards for me. But we'll see; haven't given up hope on a later II yet.

Right there with you, let's not give up hope. This is my top choice. Anyone know how many interview invites are left to go out?

Interview season extends for a long time! It's only the beginning of August!

i'm IS w/ LizzyM 73. a bit on the lower side compared to most of you so i guess i'll be waiting here for a while...

wont matter if it results in a II/acceptance in the end...I will wait as long as it takes 😛

From the Update My Application tab: "Use the AMCAS letter system for additional letters of recommendation."
AKA: If you add another LOR, submit it through AMCAS but don't tell us why you are adding it after you are complete?

Entire instructions are: "This web page will allow you to update your application with additional information, general updates, as well as new grades. You may type in your grades/class titles in the text box below. Please do not send transcripts to our office at this time. If you have a publication, you can type the title, date and citation into the text box, as we do not need the entire article. Use the AMCAS letter system for additional letters of recommendation. Note: you can cut and paste into this location, but you cannot attach a document due to limited space." Then you have 7000 characters for the update

They haven't updated their tracker even though there was some II on Monday. But they couldn't possibly gave out more than 80. So still more than 60%, or 300 interview spots left.
When I called to ask question related to scheduling my interview, they considered now to be still very early in the season.

Do they intend to give out a similar number of interviews as previous years despite the increase in applicants?
