2014-2015 University of Michigan Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I like your logic. There must be at least one person here who's gotten one.... anyone???
exactly, I know at least 4 people here interviewing on the same day and it looks like at least 3 of them are active at this moment. They are all pretty great, at least one of them should get an offer.
EDIT: I stand corrected: one of them did, and she was the lucky girl who got it in person.

The odds of at least 1 person of the x people on this board getting an email is 1 - (0.3)^x. For x = 10 there's well over a 99.99% chance that at least one person should have an acceptance. (0.7 is roughly the acceptance rate for the first several rounds of interviews). So either we're a self-selected group of losers (unlikely) or something fishy is indeed going on...

That is really strange :/. Are any of you IS applicants?

I don't have twitter but I wonder if we post the question if they would answer it?

Ahh so that means we really are likely deferred or waitlisted

No email by now means you weren't immediately accepted. Applicants who were deferred, waitlisted, or rejected will be notified tomorrow morning by status changes in their applicant portal once the admissions office opens for the morning. I'd venture to guess that nobody accepted is posting here because they're celebrating with friends/family, etc. I know that my first thought was certainly not: "Wow! I should brag on SDN!" Food for thought.

Sooo, self-selected 🙁 See you guys in the morning. Another day!

I don't know. If I get an offer and seeing everyone is wondering if there hasn't been any email or if they are not getting the offer, I'd say something so that at least people can go (try) to sleep...

Keep in mind that that's probably the acceptance rate once the application cycle is over, not the acceptance rate when they're releasing their first decisions. At least that's my rationalization...

when do we call it quits for the night lol? do you think they went to sleep by now?

I'm an M1 at U of M right now.

They should have told everyone at the interview day that only those accepted receive an email at midnight, with everyone else getting a status update the following day. That's the whole point of the "if you don't get an email at midnight, you were not accepted" comment.

Also, to respond to the statistical calculation above: Approximately 60-70% of interviewees are acctepted at the first few interview days, dropping down to around 50% each interview day by the end of the season. You can confirm that by looking back into the twitter archives at posts following the early AECs last season.

So I know from one person who has gotten the letter in person said he didn't receive any email. Here is my logic, I don't think they will choose to only send offer emails to people who won't be getting them in person--it must be a systematic thing. So consider at least 1 person who got accepted haven't received his email, it's probably a system cliche.

Well, maybe I'm wrong. I'm just trying to comfort myself a bit so I can grab some sleep and catch my plane tomorrow for another interview.

I appreciate your statement. We went to the interview together on the 26th. I wish you good luck and maybe we will get to go to school together!

Hi there! I remember you! You were always smiling. I was the tallest girl in that group, so that's that. ;P You are welcome. I'm pretty good at rationalizing but not always right, but i do wish you and myself best of luck and yes, hope to see you again!

I was trying to see which ones from my interview group got accepted on the picture profile, just realized it's the current M1's. 😉

Hey guys,

Received a "Decision Deferred to December" status. I have not ever really heard of this as an option when decisions come out. Does anyone know the odds or an anecdote of someone who has gone through this at Michigan? Ya I am a little bummed since I really liked this school. Wish I had got the acceptance :/

Wow, catching up this morning, so happy to see all of you amazing people accepted! :claps:

I feel for you all who had to endure the email delay. The admissions office has deleted their heart attack tweet that said all the acceptances had gone out before they really had. They replaced it at 1:25 AM with:

We tried delivering acceptances by hand this year! Gave up and just sent out emails instead!

Glitches happen, and the UMMS Admissions Office is one of the best at getting the news out.

But I'd like to wag my finger a bit at @gwhiz101, who wrote this before the emails came:

Actually, a glance at his post history reveals that he wrote on last year's Michigan thread on October 15, 2013 at 12:11 AM:

I got in!

Food for thought. 😉

So last night I watched the clock change to 12 am. :nailbiting: The minutes started ticking by :eyebrow: until they tweeted that all the acceptance emails had been sent out, :meh: but no one on sdn got any emails. I decided it was time to give up and go to bed.

Woke up this morning to an email from Michigan 🙂 that looked like recruiting spam. 🙁 Why would they send me that right after not accepting me?? :annoyed: I was not about to torture myself by watching it, :nono: but I did want to know if I was wait-listed or rejected. 🤔 So I bit the bullet and looked at my status....
:wtf:Accepted!!?? :biglove:

But seriously, Michigan, thanks for the emotional roller coaster.
