Anybody know how many OOSers they accept? I just know how many they interview

if you don't have serious ties to NE, it is very unlikely you will get in.

Nope I don't, but why would they interview me in the first place? Also my interviewer thought I had some pretty good reasons to apply so I hope that helps a little.

if you got an interview they are at least considering you. but the people with the strongest ties to NE often get those spots. all you can do at this point is wait anyway, no reason to think negatively.

I received an interview! My interview isn't until December 12. I'm an OOS applicant. Is anyone else interviewing on this date?

Does anyone know if getting rolled over to the normal applicant pool when applying EDP means you have a lower chance of getting accepted? is it at all like "well you didn't make the cut, we'll take another look at you but probably not." ?
or do they totally reevaluate your application and a fair amount of rolled EDP kids get accepted?
(i got rolled over and I'm curious: 3.7 GPA and 31 MCAT, in state)
I've heard mixed responses from people so i thought id ask

From what I was told, you get completely reevaluated as I was told it is essentially two chances of being considered but you have to realize that just in terms of probability its harder to get in once EDP rolls over because there are spots already filled.

Call Gigi and ask, it should be a very quick answer for you as long as you ask a precise question

11/14 interview here. I'll be the one walking around shouting "bast! BAXT!!!" all day.

Although I requested dates in November, my interview has been scheduled for December 12. Applicants are still getting some of the earlier dates as evidenced on here. Did I get a later interview date because I am an OOS applicant, or is it because I am not as favored as applicants that they are interviewing earlier? If not any of those reasons, does it have to do with the date we were considered complete? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

I would have to assume it is based on your completion date. From what it sounds like on last years thread, it really doesn't matter when you interview during the first semester. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

Decisions start going out from December to March so I wouldn't sweat it.

I know that when I was offered an interview, my dates as an OOSer were considerably later than IS people with similar complete dates. So take that for what it's worth.

Ok, thanks for the feedback you guys. That makes sense JDMcNugent. I guess I will be in the second round of acceptances, which is still good. That's good to know Smeyes. It must be because I am an OOSer. I'm definitely happy to have an interview. I was just curious about that one thing.

I suppose it makes sense that they prioritize in staters for interview slots but it looks like they review files post-interview at random, according to last years thread so it may not matter at what point you interview at UNMC.

A little birdie told me on the elevator that one committee has begun meeting! We might be able to expect something in the coming weeks! Good luck to all those who have interviewed!
Man, I really wish I hadn't read that. I was planning on having to wait until March...but now you have my hopes up. Oh well...can't unsee it.

I'm sorry...i thought this would be exciting news that they are getting a move on.

I was planning on sending in an update letter towards the end of November. Do you think it would be better for me to submit one earlier?

Woah!! Just saw this! Congrats!!!

Do you have strong ties to Nebraska?
I do have very strong ties. And about that update, i'd let them know sooner rather than later since they have started meeting. Also, if you haven't sent in a thank you this is a school where you definitely what to make sure you do that. Plenty of people get accepted without them but in my letter it expressly encourages me to thank those who were a part of my acceptance. (like the interviewer!)

I interviewed October 10th and I hope that my ties are strong as well. I did not write a thank you, but I will include my gratitude in the update letter. I am very surprised you received an acceptance because Gigi recently told me that decisions would not be going out until December! Congrats once again!
I am crossing my fingers that I will get good news early!

Interviewing OOS on 12/12, but I graduated from UNL so hoping that's a tie! currently in Lincoln and trying to decide if I should drive up that morning or the night before...

i hate the way UNMC reviews applications lol. i hate not knowing when I will know

? I don't think they are much different than any other school. Waiting is rough but it's not just UNMC that makes you wait.

they told us at my 11/14 interview that they will begin reviewing applications randomly december through march. literally randomly.

anyone else at the 11/14 that can confirm? seems like before a certain date they review them in order (evident by some acceptances in here already), but directly from Gigi's mouth she said they will start reviewing randomly in december lasting until march.

I'm just saying it's really not that different than most other schools and waiting sucks. Yale starts reviewing in February... Northwestern from the time you submit a 2dary is totally random so who knows when you'll be reviewed offered an II and accepted should all go well (same with Pritzker). I've found schools that review in an orderly and timely fashion are the outliers. Maybe you and I are applying to drastically different schools.

i guess i was just thinking that most schools would review in the order of interviews. hmm. oh well. just wish there was a date given for each interview group lol. good luck to everyone. incredible school and i think i showed a lot of passion for the school (shadowing, volunteering, and research here).. plus my interviewer was comfortable enough to say "what the hell was he thinking?" about a story I told him haha. (i'm no vulgarity prude, but that typically isn't considered of the highest appropriateness for an interview IMO. i was fine by it, in fact it reassured me haha)

I interviewed on 11/7 and am really hoping I don't get reviewed until after December when my first semester SMP grades are in. This random review kind of makes me nervous.

I am the opposite! I am hoping I get reviewed ASAP and am crossing my fingers for an acceptance! I have to take genetics still so it would be nice to know in advance if I need to sign up for a class or not.

Hey I interviewed 11/7 too! I'm taking genetics now 🙂

Well good luck to you and hope you get accepted! Are you IS? And when did you interview?

I also would like to know right MEOW lol

IS competitive GPA, and a low end MCAT but a pending MCAT which should be competitive based on practice scores.

Shadowing >200 hours mostly at UNMC
Nonclin volunteering >200 he's
Clin volunteering at UNMC
Research at UG and UNMC
Letter from MD in the ADCOM/asst dean

Well good luck to you and hope you get accepted! Are you IS? And when did you interview?
I am OOS but I have pretty strong ties to the area (or at least I hope so!) I am a bit worried because my MCAT is on the lower side of their average.
I interviewed October 10th so hopefully I will be in the first round of decisions! Are you IS or OOS? Good luck to you as well!

Nice. Samesies on the mcat and am IS but currently doing an SMP and will be done in July.

Hmm didn't know they review randomly... That sorta eases my stress!

that's how it came across to me. but they made it sound like the first round of acceptances go out in december... maybe before a certain date they do rolling style acceptance but after said date they do random? who knows lol.

Yeah, I was told that very few acceptances would go out in December, and most would be after the New Year once more interviews are done.

I got a reply from Gigi and she said that files are chosen at random but the file needs to be complete first, ie interview, picture, letters, etc.

Did she mention if they are already looking at files?
I know a few acceptances have been posted, but I am just wondering if we should expect more soon or if these people were just top candidates and got looked at early.

I wish I knew. I have no idea how often the committee meets but last years thread showed a batch of decisions go out a few days before Christmas and then silence for about a month.

I got bored during class and perused that thread for awhile.
