For everyone getting decisions soon, if you wouldn't mind updating the google sheets doc we can pass some data on to next year's applying class.

@Omppu27 I updated your entry on the google doc

Thanks! Was meaning to do that. Also, I was thinking, wouldn't it be a better idea to have the "weeks until decision" start counting from the beginning of December instead of the interview date since we couldn't find out until the beginning of December anyway? This way, someone who interviewed in October who found out, let's say 2 weeks into decemeber, would have actually "waited" just as long as someone who interviewed in November and also found out 2 weeks into December. Just throwing an idea out there!

Welp... got my small letter today. Waitlisted, but I need to send a letter to admissions if I want to *stay* on the waitlist. :/

If you decide to take your name off the Waitlist, tell them to add JDmcnugent. They'll know who you're talking about!
Haha, not counting my chickens before they hatch.. I'll stay on that waitlist until I hear good news!

Let me get this straight Swamp. They are actually gonna mail the scores to all the schools? (Even the AMCAS schools?) What exactly gets mailed? Is it just the scores or is the AMCAS app included?

You would think that for AMCAS schools they would just add the official scores to our AMCAS applications and then just send an updated app. So what exactly goes on? Anyone out there who applied last year with the August exam that can shed some light?

Good idea, if I have some time today I will do that. Otherwise if so.some else wants to hop on and give it a whirl, feel free.

Any more news for anyone?

Also, does anyone have any idea about need-based scholarships? My EFC is 3300 now that I got my taxes filed and my FAFSA amended. Not sure if I will qualify for anything, I was thinking about calling Fin Aid and asking if they know if someone with a similar EFC historically has gotten any or not.

I would just call Judi Walker or set up a meeting with her or both. I've already met with her in person, and she's very happy to talk with you in detail about the financial aid possibilities.

Have you gotten the fin aid email yet. I just got one today and it said scholarships are determined late May/June. Several times in the email it said scholarships/grants would first be awarded to undergraduate students becuase they have lower borrowing limits. So I'm not keeping my hopes up too high.

Yeah i had seen about the late May timeline. Do you mean preferentially to traditional students? If so, do you think I would count even though I took a gap year?

Thanks will call her tomorrow

No, I think they mean actual undergad students like nursing or CLS. We would be considered professional students I believe. That's not to say we won't get any scholarships.

Oh okay, I'm on the same page now. That makes sense.

if you wouldn't mind updating the excel sheet, I'm sure next year's class (and those following them) would appreciate it... just to see really how "random" this process is.

UNMC Class of 2019 Admissions Stats

I will be turning down my acceptance offer to this great school. Good luck to those who have been accepted and WILL be accepted! If you don't get in this year, try, try again!

Well I hope you are ending up somewhere with a better fit for you, even though I am sad to see you go!

Hello guys,

I am applying to UNMC this year and I was just hoping to get some help from you guys since you just went through this process.

I am a NE resident, non-traditional student that graduated from UNO in 2013 with a BA in Biology. I have a 3.5 cGPA and a 3.4 sGPA. I am 26 years old and come from a single parent home which is why it took me so long to graduate from college and my GPA is no the best (had to work since 9th grade to help out my grandma with bills) I haven't seen parents in 15 years. I took the MCAT twice and I got a 24 and a 26 ;( so I know my stats are not the best. I have been a Spanish medical interpreter at the SHARING clinic since 2009 and I currently work in a community health centers serving our underserved population. I work with doctors who are affiliated with UNMC so I will be getting my LOF from them.

do you guys think I have a chance with my stats? UNMC is really my only choice as I cant leave the state since my grandma is here.

On another note regarding the application process, after I initially send my app through AMCAS, UNMC will send me a 2nd app correct? when do they perform a background check? after the interview or before?

Also, I am a permanent resident. Anyone can relate to this? thanks! 🙂

I honestly have no idea how to gauge the admissions process, so I'm not sure I am qualified to say whether or not you have a chance with your stats, but I say go for it. You'll get an interview (as a Nebraska resident), which will be your chance to explain your situation and show them that you are more than just stats. If UNMC is your only choice, you could also consider early decision route, but I'm not sure how that works.

UNMC doesn't have a secondary app per se, but after your AMCAS goes through you'll log into the portal (you'll get info from UNMC about how to log in) and then you can choose your interview date and also let them know who your letter writers are. The background check happens after acceptance I think.

I'm a permanent resident, too, so if you have any questions about that, just PM me! I'm clearly not the most informed person ever about any of this, but I'll do my best!

I'm growing to be VERY anxious for financial aid. ugh.

You haven't gotten it yet?!

now you're making me feel bad lol!! (kidding.. sort of 😉 )

I have checked "myrecords" and nothing under financial aid there. haven't gotten anything in the mail. and only thing I've gotten in email from them is that essentially any amount leftover after scholarships will be covered by Grad PLUS loans

but the COM is listed as sending out financial aid packages the end of May

Lol, I'm not even accepted, but so many other applications from schools got it over a month ago

yeah I know.. that's the one thing I wish I could change about UNMC. A lot of people get fin aid packages with their acceptance so that they can choose whether or not they want to choose school X over school Y.

Just curious, have you received yours yet? Or have you been in contact with the Financial Aid office?

I got mine last friday
Did you have your immunizations and final transcripts in? I've been checking "my records" page through UNMC but no scholarship/financial aid package posted yet...

I haven't heard anything either. I just submitted the immunizations at the beginning of June, and I am pretty sure they my transcripts as well.

Update: I got my fin aid today.

it all seems pretty random. some OOS have gotten theirs, noahh5 is EDP and hasn't gotten his, etc.

my immunizations are in, i need to check if they need transcripts or not.

i can't remember, did we send in transcripts with our secondaries or after acceptance notification? it's been too long for me to remember lol. i haven't had any classes since spring 2014 so nothing new would be updated.

You have to send in all of your transcripts so they have them in your record, J. I asked them the same question, thinking they would have them from AMCAS or whatever, but they need official ones even if you haven't taken any new classes lately.

Gasp, who is J? 😉

Anyway, ugh okay. What is a few more dollars in this game? Lol.
