2014-2015 University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Application Thread

Has anyone started looking for housing?
I know I have started looking! I am so pumped, not sure where is best/where most students live. I need to figure out the bus lines and such too.

Does anyone know when Second Look is?
Has anyone started looking for housing?

I feel like these two things go hand in hand. I briefly looked at bus routes, since I know they said not to count on parking. Is anyone from the area who knows how tough the housing/rental market is and if it's OK to wait a while still to find something?

Feel free to message me if you have questions about the bus system or apartments on the bus line! I live in Chapel Hill and use them every day to get to campus and to my apartment

If any you need to rent or buy a place, I've got a great realtor friend in CH who is helping me find a place. PM me and I will shoot you his contact details. He can help with the logistics of finding a rental if you can't physically be in Chapel Hill that much.

Well, after stalking this thread since it started, I'm going to go ahead and make my first post...
Got accepted yesterday afternoon after interviewing in mid-October!
Congrats! An acceptance seems appropriate for a first message ^^

So...was there ever any consensus on either a) starting a FB group for our entering class, or b) seeing if the current MS1 class is doing this? Just checking.
I still haven't seen one, shall we just start one?
The worst thing that could happen is an MS1 also creates a page and then the other one would have to be deleted... not too much of a hassle right?

Congrats! 🙂

Has anyone this cycle gotten an acceptance late in the week, or during a week the committee didn't meet? I want to know if I'm basically out of luck until the Monday after next or if I should keep freaking out every time my phone rings...

For all you know, you may never get a phone call, but instead receive an acceptance letter in the mail sometime this week. It happens.

Also very proud to be joining you all in the c/o 2019. Can't wait for August. 🙂

In terms of housing, I'm thinking about Odum/Baity, which are near the medical school. What other good options have you all found?

Hey everyone, I was wondering what your opinions/knowledge is of late-February interviews for UNC. I was complete early in the cycle, but for some reason have one of the last ( if not the last) interview slots. I'm sort of worried because I love UNC so much. Im in-state too and just wanted to know if at that point I am just interviewing for a wait list spot

One of my friends at UNC said him and all of his current roommates all interviewed in late January and late February, so seats should definitely be open. Be confident in your interview and good luck!

Thanks so much for the prompt reply! That makes me feel better. I really hope to stay in NC, so I'll do my best at the interview: ) Best of luck to everyone else! Congrats to all who have been accepted

Has anyone felt mediocre about their interview here but still received good news? I've been waiting for a bit and I'm feeling nervous!!

I interviewed several places, and this was the one that I felt the worst about. Nothing really went wrong, just didn't feel like I impressed anyone. Waited for 16 weeks before hearing anything, so it definitely can take longer than expected...hang in there!

Congrats!! Did somebody call you or was it by mail? I'm trying to figure out if I should be expecting anything in the mail for the rest of this week...

I got a call on Tuesday afternoon from one of my interviewers, but actually haven't received anything in the mail yet. I expected to get something sooner than this, but I guess that's all part of it.

So we're thinking the next meeting is a week from Monday?

Anyone know when we should hear about financial aid packages and such, I know nothing about fin aid!!!

Hey guys question about the selection process: out of our two interviewers one was on the admissions committee who will speak on your behalf at the adcom meeting and the other is a non-adcom member who will write a summary about you (?). Though I suppose it's possible to be interviewed by two adcom members and who presents you is arbitrary?

The way they explained it, only one will present you to the committee, and you will know that prior to the interview (Joni will tell you).

Hmm thanks! I'm pretty sure both my interviewers were adcom members (one explicitly says she's on the adcom on her UNC webpage and the other was talked about being an adcom member on SDN in the past). I'm just being neurotic because one was really in depth and went great and the other one was just average.

Joni had told most/all of the people on my day specifically who would be presenting them to the committee. Just from my personal experience, the more in-depth one was the person just wrote in their assessment, since he needed info to write about.

Don't sweat it, though! I'm sure you killed it!

Thanks! She never told our group about that stuff. Hopefully I'll hear good news!

I was never told which was which.

However I do know that both were there at the meeting and both spoke on my behalf.

Have any early December interviewees heard anything?? Favorite school, fingers crossed ugh

So I'm guessing everyone else got that residency form email?

Does that mean that everyone who submitted their form in 2014 or early 2015 now needs to re-submit their current 2014 taxes?

Did you submit your 2014 taxes the first time around? I submitted my 2013 taxes, because that's what the residency form required when I filled it out in 2014. I guess now that it's 2015 they're saying that they need your 2014 taxes as well. But if you already submitted those, you should be fine.

Nope, I submitted my 2013 taxes for the same reasons you did. I'm just a little confused by this, since if they needed our 2014 tax info, why did they let us submit those forms before that info could even be available? And furthermore, I found the email to be a little vague, since it just kind of said "We need more info from some of you. Please don't ask us if we need more info from you. Please give us the info. Thanks."

Was there a link or attachment on the residency form email? I didn't get either

Does anybody remember how we were supposed to submit our tax forms? Was there somewhere to scan and upload them in the form, or were we supposed to e-mail or mail them? I remember pulling the tax forms out to look at them when I was completing the form, but can't remember if I actually submitted them or not. Trying to figure out how to verify since the e-mail said not to contact her. Didn't see anything in my sent e-mails and when I go back to the form it just says "Thank you for completing the survey" (I never got the copy that I requested by checking the box at the end), so I'm kinda stuck.

I remember it just being integrated into the form--nowhere for attachments.

I definitely uploaded mine as part of the form - I remember I wanted to just upload the digital version on my computer but there was no way to black out the SSN's, so I had to print it, black them out with a sharpie, scan, and upload them.
When I forwarded the email to my mom she interpreted it to mean that if we submitted our 2013 taxes, we're good. So I'm gonna go with that for now.

Also, I think I'd be a lot more motivated to submit my tax forms if they'd let me know yes or no on the whole admissions decision............... just saying.
Completely agree. I'd have a lot more incentive to do tedious paper work if I was already accepted.
