Alternative. Strother told me top half. As I was under the impression we did this in thirds, I am even more confused. I have no idea where I stand still.
Usually nelson tells you the most specific to how high in the list you are that he can be i.e. he'll say top 20, top 30, top 40 even though all of those are in the top third. If he tells you top third you're probably in the latter part of the third, idk how many are on the list this year so I can't be more specific. So top half should mean that you're in the top chunk of the middle third meaning you have a chance but it will depend on how much movement there is and how big the list is. Last year there was like 270 I think so even top quarter wasn't guaranteed(I didn't make it from top quarter last year). But this year I think they were planning on a smaller list so top half could be around 80 They should publish the number of people on the list in the waitlist faq but I don't remember when they send that out

Alternate list here. Emailed Strother and told me I was in the top 65. Sounds like I will be borderline as to getting an acceptance. Not sure what to think.

271 on the list this year

271 on the list this year
I just looked back and it was 291 last year, so I guess that's a little bit better but not much. Anyway, good luck to all of you on the list. Top 65 is probably the extent that it will go to if I had to guess, but Nelson is very willing to talk to you throughout the summer and tell you how many have been offered acceptances up to that point and give advice

I'm confused. According to the FAQ sheet that came with the letters and is available online (https://www.uthsc.edu/Medicine/Admissions/docs/faqs-alternate-list.pdf), "There were 271 positions on the alternate list for the 2015 entering class." The fact that it says were rather than are made me think that it referred to the current class of MS1s, i.e. last year's alternate list. I could be wrong, but 271 is a very big number and it was fairly widespread belief that last year's list was unusually long and this year's would be smaller.

Waitlisted, middle third. Unfortunately, so long UTHSC.

Top half. Anyone heard of the wait list moving this far in the past? I know odds are not in my favor at this point, but thought I'd ask.

I was told top 50. Does anyone know how many were called off the list last year?

I think it's one of those things that happened in the past but is unlikely - they do say their average is in the 60s. :/

To second what goldfish91 said, last year was 48 ish and the year before was middle 50s. I wouldn't count on getting in if you are 60's, but below 50 seems safe.

Hey, y'all, long-time observer, but first-time posting here.

In the continuing hope of being offered acceptance from the waitlist, how are those communications done, i.e. mail, call, email, etc?

I'm new to this forum. I was told by Nelson that I am in the top 35 of the alternate list. I'm currently signed up to take a Kaplan MCAT course starting June 8. After the first day I only get a partial refund and no refund after the 3rd. I know you guys are aware of the cost associated with these classes so I'm definitely concerned. I don't really know what my chances for acceptance are at this position and don't want to miss out on an opportunity to boost my MCAT score for next cycle. Then again I don't want to lose $2,200 if I happen (by some miracle) to be accepted. Any advice?

Any advice?

If I were you, I'd hold out until June 5th, 6th or 7th before deciding to withdraw from the MCAT class. Final decisions went out just last week, and if any have already been offered acceptance from the waitlist, they have a limited timeframe to decide (I think at most two weeks). Of course nothing is a sure thing until you've actually been offered acceptance, but I'd give it more time for now. Especially if the "average" pulled off the waitlist is 60 and last year was ~48.

That's my thinking as well. I'm so not a patient person and this wait is excruciating! Saw your last post, Nelson responds well to emails. He answered me promptly. Although I'm sure you've already figured this out.

Do you happen to know where they are on the waitlist so far?

No clue! I'm hoping someone else has that info? I seem to have read somewhere that Nelson will answer that question himself if you ask. I've already sent him 2 emails this week and hesitate to bother him again. (Insert insane type A personality)

You and me both, man.

I found out that I was in the middle of the wait list, so not really much chance. However I was just accepted to another school where I was waitlisted that will be a really great fit, so I'll be withdrawing my application here today. Best of luck, all.

Got the call from Nelson today that I'm in. So they're at least in the 30's on the list. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Has anyone secured housing yet? If so, any good recommendations? 🙂

Just withdrew my acceptance in the form of a deferral. Best of luck to all of you! I will see you in 2016.

Just a quick update- Nelson let me know they are only 38 people deep into the wait-list and it doesn't look like it is moving much this year. Those that were waiting to do AMCAS should probably just prepare to turn it in tomorrow.

Did you hear this today? Does anyone know if this is on track with past years?

Has anyone heard any recent updates on the wait list movement?

Hello! I was placed in the "Top 45" on the alternate list and was accepted on Tuesday, so my guess is that they've reached ~45 on the alternate list.
Congrats! I'm in the Top 50, so I've got all my fingers and toes crossed... Did you call or email a lot to stay in touch, or did you wait patiently?

You can either call or email. Honestly I prefer email so I can have a direct copy of what was said- just makes it easier for my records.

Thank you very much! I waited patiently, and Dean Strother called me on Tuesday. I've got my fingers crossed for you too; best of luck!

Does anyone know if the class is full yet or the waitlist is still moving? Is there any chance that it will get to the top 50 this year. I have emailed UT twice and do not want to bother them anymore...

fairly certain that a wait-list exists because the class is full. It moves if people change their mind or defer etc.

Hello everyone, I am hoping to go to UTHSC starting august 2016.
IS app with 3.45 gpa and 30MCAT and an MPH with a 4.0
do you think I have a decent shot at getting in?

Shoot your luck in there.. I had low 30s score with 4.0, ECs, etc and didn't get in this past year, but you never know.
