Hey guys, quick question RE Creighton's mission statement for the secondary. I'm having a bit of trouble finding something strong to write about from Creighton Med's mission statement, so is it OK write about points mentioned in the parent Creighton University mission statement? That mentions service to others, and I could actually write a strong secondary based on that, but I don't want to get weird looks in case Creighton Med considers their mission separately from Creighton University.

I'm a current M2, and I can tell you that Creighton (med school and the university) are ALL ABOUT service to others. Even if it's not strictly mentioned in the SOM's mission, I thing writing about your commitment to others would be gold.

Dear ____,

We are excited to inform you................. that your application for admission to the Creighton University School of Medicine is now complete

When I started to read the email I thought that maybe I had my first II :soexcited:But no. Curse you Creighton and your positivity! +pity+

I thought the same thing... At least it's a step forward

+1. so sad

Its been mentioned here that the final essay doesn't need to hit at least half the character limit, but I can explain everything that will be happening this next year in only about 600 characters. (wow, my life summed up in 600 characters...)...it is one minuscule little paragraph...still ok?

This is what my answer to this question looks like too. It's just a short, to-the-point paragraph explaining my current activities.

Are there opportunities to work with diverse and/or underserved patient populations at Creighton or in the Omaha area? Or is the population in Omaha largely white and middle-class?

There is no middle class anymore. Zing. But in terms of underserved, there are plenty of rural areas and they have a satellite health campus in Arizona if you are interested in reaching the Hispanic population.

Yes. There are certainly areas of Omaha that are poor with lots of uninsured people.

Ok, good to know! The reason I ask is because I am writing about my desire to work with underserved populations during my medical education as part of the reason I would like to attend Creighton, and I was wondering if Creighton would actually offer me that opportunity. From your answers, it seems like there won't be a lack of opportunity at Creighton to work with the underserved.

Yeah, working with the underserved is a big thing at Creighton. You can volunteer at several clinics that serve the homeless and uninsured populations. Plus, there are large communities of southeast Asian, Sudanese, and Mayan immigrants, and there are several clubs you can be apart of that are involved with these communities.

Yes. There are tons of opportunities to work with underserved and diverse populations within the Omaha area at Creighton. As far as the Omaha population, it is actually a major immigration place for refugees (Creighton runs the main immigration clinic in the Omaha metro). In addition to a fairly large hispanic population, Omaha has a significant number of people from ethnic groups from all over the world.

Current Creighton M4. Feel free to PM me or ask questions in the thread and I will respond as able.
What do you need to do to go to the Pheonix campus for clinical training? Also, do many of the students want to go to Pheonix/is it difficult to get selected to go?

You don't "need" to do anything. they just ask you your preference upon acceptance. Omaha can accommodate 110, while phoenix accommodates 42. they'll honor as many preferences as possible, but if people's preferences don't align exactly with those numbers, they'll just use a lottery system to decide the rest.

when I gave my preference, 92 students preferred phoenix. but the list changes all the time, and after they do the lottery, there are waitlists for both if you change your mind (which people do all the time). so you really wont definitely know until you get closer to M3

Just adding to what rachel993 said, there will be a ton of people changing their mind during the first 2 years of school. If you think you want to go to Phoenix, I would sign up now and then try to change later. Most of the time there is a waitlist of people wanting to go to Phoenix. Oddly enough, there was actually a waitlist for people wanting to stay in Omaha during my second year for a bit, while people were switching around where they wanted to go.

Hey guys,

so Creighton shows that one of my chemistry letter does not meet requirement. I think it's because the professor does not date letter or something similar

and also i have 2 chemistry, 1 math letter. Other schools say math is nonscience, but Creighton says math is science.

I'm wondering if these two points are a big deal. And if they will prevent my app from going into review. Should I take any actions?

Thanks

If you have concerns, you can always email them and ask if your letters are sufficient. This is probably the safest bet.

They were showing that one of my professors didn't meet the requirement and I just called and explained to them the situation and they fixed it right away! I would just call. They are very nice.

+1 easy fix. They were very understanding.

Does anyone have a status other than "Application Submitted On xx/xx/2015" in their portal?

Also, is your letter classification box filled in?

Just got an interview! I'm so excited! I absolutely love Creighton, and I am so excited to have been given this opportunity.

Congrats! When did you have everything submitted, if you don't mind?

Anyone know how fast interview slots fill up? So many options and I have no idea when to schedule.

Man, still no II"s anywhere....thought I could nab an early one to at least one of the 15 or so schools i've applied that are already sending them out..

I don't have my stuff with me at the moment, but it was the day that they first sent out secondaries.

I am beginning to get a complex - I was complete mid-July with a 3.6 gpa, a 33 MCAT, lots of volunteering both medical and non-medical, work in a health care job. Thought for sure I had a chance at an early interview here.
