2015-2016 Creighton University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just called and had to leave a message because like 30 people called at the same time lol

The initial lady that answered was a little irked

What number is everyone calling? I'm getting sent right to a voicemail system

I called and left a message as well. Still not optimistic whatsoever because my "thanks for visiting" and letters were still there.

For anyone wondering, she called back and said I just went into committee review and I should call back on Monday afternoon. She also suggested that the portal would be the fastest method of finding out. Now I can physically feel myself being judged all weekend 🙂

Sorry to you guys as well. Really bummed about this decision. Felt like I had a wonderful interview experience. Have lots of medical and non-medical volunteering, and I really enjoyed Creighton. I guess we'll see what happens.

Have any accepted students seen any portal changes or received an email? I haven't yet.

Have any of the 9/26 interviewees called in about a decision yet? I called on Friday and the person who answered the phone said to try back today in the afternoon. I just don't want to bug them, but am dying to know!

I had my interview on 9/26 and I called on Friday and got in. I'd try calling.

I interviewed that day and I was told the same thing on Friday. I plan on calling in an hour or so. The suspense has been killing me all day!

I got my acceptance offer email but my portal didn't change yet, so I can't accept the offer, etc. Good luck to those who find out today! Crossing my fingers for you, potential future classmates!

I just called. She said to call back in about 3 days. The person in charge of that has been out of town and they are a little behind. Bummer!

I know this is kind of early, but should we start a FB page for the incoming group?

How can we send updates? Through email or through the portal?

My letters and thanks for visiting the campus has disappeared. Interviewed 9/26. Does that mean I can call in and find out? I don want to bother them again if it doesn't mean that, but if it does then i sure do want to know!

The official decisions are sent in by email, so if you don't want to bother them, the wait shouldn't be too long after a decision is made.

My buddy called on Monday and found out he was accepted. I doubt they will mind if you call.

I called Friday and was told to call back early next week. Called yesterday and the lady told me that the decision wasn't available yet but I had one. She took my phone number/name/amcas ID down and told me she would call me... I noticed everything disappeared this morning. Anyone going to call today?? 😀

I called and she wouldn't tell me anything. She said the decision isn't available yet for my interview group (9/26), but I have seen people that have already been accepted from that group. Who knows 🙂

have any interviews gone out recently? complete mid september

I was told that November 2nd was the next day applications will be reviewed for the next wave of interviews.

As in II will be sent out on 11/2 or they will start to review applications on 11/2 for interviews? Seems like a lot of free time in between if it is the latter

After a week of suspense my hopes and dreams crashed and burned this morning in an Alternate List email. I'm pretty devastated since I loved Creighton and it was and still is my only interview (so also my only hope). I didn't feel good at all about my interview though. Does anyone know if a Wait-List at Creighton is basically a death sentence? Anyway, good luck to everyone else and I really hope to see you all on the other side!

No, it isn't. Most years, people get pulled off the alternate list. Some years nobody does, but I think more years than not people do.

I'm sorry it didn't work out 🙁. But keep in mind that it is still very early in the season to have interview invitations. When I applied two years ago, I only had one invitation at this point in the year. By the end of the season, I had three interviews and two acceptances. Keep your head up, and try not to focus on whether or not you've gotten an interview invitation this week (and for the sake of your own sanity, get off SDN. This place will not make you feel better about yourself.)

Keep sending in updates about your ongoing volunteering, research, or grades to both Creighton and your other schools, and try not to stress.

Thank you for your encouraging words. I suppose in some odd way this was good because my interviewer suggested I diversify my shadowing and community service a little more and submit updates so it's lit a fire under my butt to shadow a ton of people and join a huge involved service group. (The updates were not satisfactory apparently though...) @Rhizobium can I ask when you received your other two interview invites?

Welp. I got the email this morning and was put on the alternate list. Saying that I am pretty upset would be an understatement as I loved Creighton and it was pretty much my top choice. Congrats to everyone accepted

U of Kentucky and Loma Linda. But you should be applying to places that fit your personality and pre-med profile. If you've got a lot of research, apply to research-oriented schools. If you came from an undergrad with a religious affiliation, apply to similar med schools. Most Jesuit schools will favor a CV with lots of volunteering with underserved populations. I was coming from a small, religious undergrad with a lot of service hours, so I had more success with similar schools.

I meant what time of the cycle did you receive your other invites? November? I too come from a Jesuit school but I've tried to keep a balanced profile (service obviously but 4 years of research, lots of teaching and shadowing and clinical work) so I applied EXTREMELY broadly. 25 schools in fact. Just about every private school in the country. I'm sitting on 3 rejections. 1 interview. And a ton of holds and silence.

Oops. Poor reading comprehension lol.

Yeah, about November-ish. But I have plenty of people in my class who didn't get IIs until January or February, so it might be a bit of a wait. Best to focus your energy on improving your CV and letting the IIs come when they will. You stressing about it will make you crazy, but it won't make them come any faster.

That makes me feel better. I'm certainly channeling my stress into improving the CV. I think that's great advice to stay off this site. It may be coping but I think there's observation bias at play here too? I see these posters who already have several interviews and acceptances (which perpetuates the freaking out) but most people in my undergrad class have yet to hear back from anyone. And a lot of current students I've talked to at my schools medical school said they didn't know until after the new year. Perhaps hope isn't lost?

HI Guys!
Interviewed early oct
Lizzy M ~75
I am withdrawing my application (accepted elsewhere). Best of luck to everyone and may the force be with you!
