Please PM the essays or lack thereof to me when the secondary is available and I will update this.

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

NEOMED waits for your letters of recommendation before sending secondaries.

Nothing here still, but I guess it's a matter of time now

Does anyone know what this pie chart is saying in this pdf? My take from it is those are the number of students accepted into NEOMED from those universities. If that is the case, then do students only get accepted from those universities and nowhere else? The numbers from the pie chart add up to 104 students and it reads that they accepted 103 students so it seems like that could be true.

Based on personal experience (I go to one of those partner universities) that could be true. A good amount of my classmates got accepted there last year

Hmmm, I might call them once they send out the secondary to find out the truth. If that is true, then even though I am IS it would be pointless to send in the secondary and pay the fee since I do not attend one of those universities.

The numbers of students from Akron, Kent, and Youngstown going there in that part of the chart are from their accelerated BS/MD track which is applied to from high school; these students make up the majority of their class and can number between 80 and 120 per year.

The remaining ~40 direct entry seats can be allotted to anyone, including direct entries from Akron, Kent, and Youngstown as well.

I don't know why they put that graph on the Direct Entry infographic, but I can assure that is what those numbers are; you can verify by checking the MSAR breakdowns if you are still curious.
That makes a lot more sense. I guess the fact that people here end up at NEOMED often is just simply because it's located a few minutes away

Same here. They have not answered the phone since May, and I have been calling at least every couple of weeks.

To be fair though, I'm pretty sure its just one guy who does the app processing/answers the phone.
Maybe I will pay them a visit soon (if there's no news) to see what's going on

So what are my chances if I am applying OOS? Sounds like not very good

According to MSAR, out of 1,255 applicants from OOS, 14 got interviews and 3 matriculated. Not sure how many of the 14 were accepted but I would say your secondary fee would almost certainly be a waste of money.

Likely those 14 were either exceptional or had strong ties to Ohio

I was getting really worried until I read this thread. It's reassuring to know that apparently no one else has had their emails/phone calls answered, nor have they received the secondary yet. I thought it was just me, and I was beginning to freak out.

Current direct entry MS4 here. I used sdn a lot back in my application days! If you have any questions, let me know!

I remember vaguely, I didnt hear much from NEOMED until later in the year. My interview invite was in beginning of November and I actually interviewed in December.

They actually have not sent any secondaries, and their admissions office does not pick up any calls. We are all in the dark here

Just called today again. They answered this time. I was told they are now reviewing applications and will start sending secondaries soon

Why don't they just send them out before they start reviewing applications...seems weird. I wonder if the questions will be there same this year.

Absolutely 🙂

1) Provide a specific example of how you promoted diversity in your community.

2) “A social justice approach should be central to medicine and utilized to be central to public health. This could be very simple: the well should take care of the sick.” – Paul Farmer, M.D.
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
How has your view of social justice in medicine been influenced by a specific experience or activity?

3) A physician does many activities during the workday. What physician activity will be most meaningful to you? Provide a specific life experience that affirms the meaningfulness of this activity.

"Important thoughts on your essay:

The essays that follow are a critical part of your application credentials. We treat them with the same as importance as other aspects of your application like grades, test scores, and the experiences you list. The essays are designed to solicit vital information from you in order to assess how your past and your goals are aligned with our mission. We will evaluate your essay more favorably when your responses very clearly and consistently reflect the following qualities and elements.

• We will rate your essay more favorably when you draw upon your actual life experiences to answer the questions rather than solely relying on your imagination, beliefs, or your future plans. Many applicants express academic and career goals aligned with our mission, but only a small fraction have a wealth of life experiences supporting those plans. We look for students that have both.

• While we value an applicant who has a great deal of experience serving within their community, we particularly value students who have extended their experiences to other communities and groups unlike the applicant. We will rate your essay more favorably when you draw on experiences across diverse communities and groups.

• All NEOMED College of Medicine M.D. programs are based upon competitive admission practices. We receive more applications from academically qualified candidates than we have slots to offer. This is the opportunity to distinguish yourself. Essays that relate to the mission-centric values of NEOMED will suggest to the readers and committees that you are the right fit for our particular university. More information about NEOMED’s mission and values may be found here: http://www.neomed.edu/about/."

Wow, I assumed since it was taking this long they were gonna change the essays...

So did I... And even though I knew it might be coming, I still really have no idea how to answer the first one.

It only is allowing me to apply to the BS/MD program. Anyone else having this issue? It says I have expressed interest in the direct MD admit but won't let me see the application.

I didn't have that issue. When I followed the link in the email, the drop down box had a few options to choose from, and one of them was "traditional"

The issue I'm having is that nothing I input will save - looks like I'll have to do it all at once to submit.

I'm having this same issue. I chose the "traditional MD" option when creating an account, but then when the actual application pops up, the 6-year BS/MD is listed.

Edit: Nevermind, got it figured out!

Now that you've got it figured out, could you explain it to me? I want to apply direct entry, but it only lists BS/MD, Bacc/MD, and Post Bacc/MD. Which of those is direct entry?

When creating an account, mine actually had an option from the drop-down menu that said "direct entry" or something along those lines. It wasn't till I went to start my application that it was coming up instead as the BS/MD 6-year track option. I ended up re-clicking on the link to the secondary in the email that was sent out by NEOMED, which solved the issue I was having. I'm not sure if that helps :/

any one have issues with formatting after copying and pasting from word? My essays appear to be normal but wasn't sure if maybe that would show up after submission?

That does help. Thanks.
