For question 2 on the secondary, should I list the anticipated hours for the activity? For example, I plan on continuing volunteering at the hospital until next summer. In this case, should I include these anticipated hours? Or should I only include hours that I have completed up until today? Hours for activities on AMCAS are anticipated, so there will be some disagreement if I list only completed hours.

How did everyone approach essay question 2c?

Based on these experiences, please describe what you have learned through your involvement, the attributes you would bring to Rush Medical College, and the impact you would have on the greater Rush Community (2000 characters).

I listed three activities, but I was thinking about writing in-depth about only one experience, instead of writing briefly about all three. Is it better to discuss three activities briefly, or one in-depth?

I think the latter might be better. I spent the bulk of the space talking about one activity in particular because I learned a lot more from it than the other two. I found that expanding on that one activity allowed me to answer the question in a better way. I mentioned one of the other activities briefly in my second paragraph but I didn't even mention the third one at all.

+1 I did the same thing...mentioned the other two briefly in the second paragraph, but the majority was about the most important one

That's a good way to do it. Personally I took a different approach because I learned a lot from the 3 activities and I basically talked about one connecting factor in all of them (diversity of the population I worked with), and what that's made me realize about myself and what I want in my career. But I'm sure there are a lot of different approaches that are all great!
 
If they screen you at a 503 for the New mcat /27 does that mean youre applicant will never be looked at if its below that? like 499, 500?

I talked about how I would be a good fit for the school, it's mission, and the city.

From their app itself they're big on community service, so I added stuff regarding that

So I categorized my pre-health advisors LOR as a committee letter because a committee letter can be "from your schools pre-health committee or pre-health advisor" but I also really want to send my LOR from my PI's since they can really evaluate me and I know they provided strong LOR... RMC wants either 1 committee letter or 3 others any suggestions?
 
finally submitted the secondary.. after 3 weeks lol it was so tough for me because I couldn't fit it all in! Good luck everyone!

The Committee does their best to thoroughly review all applications in a timely manner. Being that we receive over 10,000 applications each year, this process can take several weeks. We will begin to invite applicants to interview next week and will continue to invite applicants through February.

Hi everyone! Okay so this may be a dumb question but here it goes anyways. I've worked for 7 years with campus police at my university which involves a lot of foot patrol, engaging with the community, etc. Do you think I could count this as my community service even though it is paid?

In my opinion, this would be paid employment, which does not fit in as community service. But then again, that job is service to the community, so it's debatable. But I would err on the side of safety, and keep community service experiences in the realm of hospital, clinic, tutoring, shelters, community outreach, etc.

Seems like a bit of a grey area. Community services typically entails voluntary work so I don't know if you could technically consider it as such. I'm not sure how strict they are with their definitions, but hopefully they would recognize your activities either way. You may want to ask them directly about that, especially if you are short of meeting their community service requirements without it.

Definitely not community service in the aspect they are questioning about, in my opinion. There are plenty of opportunities in the application to talk about that experience -- your biggest accomplishment, working with diversity, if it contributed to why you want to be a doctor....
