2015-2016 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Considering that the vast majority of the Tufts med students are not URM, it is safe to say that URM status isn't the only thing that adcoms are looking for when selecting who gets in. If that were the case, maybe the class demographics would be a little bit different. To suggest that URM aren't being selected based on their "merit" in the same way that you are Hildace is an incorrect assumption.

II yesterday. URM and worked my tail off for the last 8 years to get this point. #merit-based

Would anyone mind sharing what their interview was like here? I just got an invite! What's the interview style? How many interviews do applicants do? Is it closed or open-file? Are interviews in the morning or the afternoon?

Thanks in advance!! 🙂

There are two interviews about 30 minutes each. They put you both in these little rooms which are hot as *&*(, I was sweating like Robin Williams doing stand up. Both interviewers had my application open on a computer and would ask rather specific questions about my app, I would suggest knowing the contents of your app well. No crazy ethics questions. The interviews on my day were after lunch, which kinda sucks cus I like to have them in the morning so I can really focus on the rest of the interview day. Side note, the financial aid presentation was killer. Probably the best I've seen, I got a lot of good advice which was both specifically relevant to Tufts as well as to med school finances in general. Also, they don't really feed you breakfast, so eat up beforehand. I had a great time, enjoy.

Just got a deferral email. Anyone know what my chances are after this?

EDIT: Just would like to add that of 7 interviews, felt that this one was easily the best. Was extremely confident. Thought I absolutely slaughtered it. Another meaningless data point for you all

Just got an email from Tufts saying I've been deferred. Interviewed 1/19. It says the email doesn't mean I'm on the waitlist and to not be discouraged, but from what I've read previously on here students have said it's like a silent rejection. It seems like they make their decisions quickly then keep moving on.

I just got waitlisted from my other top choice 2 days ago so if anyone can shed any light on this I would greatly appreciate it. I'd rather just rip the bandaid off now than have any hope 🙁

Checking last years post, it seems like anyone who isn't accepted is deferred, then ultimately waitlisted and rejected. I felt the same way about my interview.

I'm really sorry for anyone who got the same news today 🙁 I will try and keep my hopes up for all of us

There is reason to still have hope after a deferral. Most of the students accepted early (top candidates) have many other options and most will withdraw. Many will withdraw if accepted at schools higher on their list (or less expensive) and many will not accept a waitlist spot.
No one knows the numbers but lets say they interview 900 and have offered 300 spots and have filled 100 spots. Maybe 300 others withdraw or refuse a spot on the waitlist. They still have 104 spots and will need to make... say 150 offers to the remaining 300 students. So, you are still in the game.

Anyone aware of second look arrangements? Any insights?

Sorry to hear about all these rejections 🙁 anxiously anticipating mine.. Complete mid Aug

I haven't gotten rejected yet (complete early July, so I'm sure it's coming), but I'm getting a 500 error when I try to log onto the portal. Is anybody else having the same issue?

Was rejected earlier, I can still log in.

Okay, it got even weirder. Now I can log in, but I'm logged in as "John Matias" (not my name), and it appears to be the account of a committee member (I deleted the screenshot I took because I'm sure that Tufts doesn't want their numbers to be public, and I feel bad releasing that information without permission).

This is just bizarre.

Yeah... there are files for every single applicant that has applied to Tufts. I'm not looking at any of them because that would be wrong, but it's really, really bizarre. I mean, I can access all of Tufts' applicant info for this entire cycle. I've tried calling the office to alert them to the issue, but nobody is answering!

The numbers are interesting though! A lot more IIs than actual interviewed applicants.

Interestingly, it looks like they still haven't reached their US News numbers for "Interviewed" of 948

This is ridiculous... O.O

They've only screened half ... Well dang. Unless screening means only about half of the applicants met some GPA or MCAT minimum and the rest were screened out

If you log out, and try to log back in.. do you get the same account?

+1 to the pre-II rejection. Complete early July - thanks for the long wait, Tufts!

That was how I interpreted it.

Yep. I get the "500 Error" page, then the next time that I click the link it sends me to Mr. Matias' account. I'm just not going to try to login for the moment. I can't reach Tufts by phone, but I sent them an email explaining the situation. I also sent them a screenshot of Mr. Matias' portal page. Hopefully they can fix the issue!
