Just got rejected. 3.8 gpa and 527 MCAT. My essays must have been terrible

Sorry to hear the bad news. And definitely understand how it hurts even more with no IIs yet. Hoping you hear better news soon!

It's more likely that they rejected you because your MCAT score far exceeds their 90th percentile. With stats like that you should be hearing good news from other schools soon!

Don't think it's a reflection on your essays or ability. I think it's one of two things:

1) I get the feeling that Tulane, more than any school except maybe SIU, works incredibly hard to find students whose "purpose" aligns with their own. Maybe your "purpose" is in part to attend a school with incredibly high admissions averages, where you'd fit right in.

2) Sometimes, were given things we don't deserve (my II here), and other times, were not given something because there's something way better for us (your future II's).

Either way, I think you'll have plenty of options by season's end. Best of luck.

Sounds like they moved a bunch of us into the next phase, with us seeing the final green check. When did you submit? I submitted on the 22nd and just got that green check yesterday. Perhaps we were all assigned to a reviewer who was away on vacation or something...

I was complete on 8/3. Seriously have my fingers crossed that my final letter is uploaded by the surgeon I work for today like he said it would. Otherwise, I am just anxious to see what happens.
 
Is it cheaper to take taxi or uber from the airport to tulane SOM?

it's $33.00 (flat rate) to take a taxi to anywhere in New orleans (usually mid-city, downtown) (with no tips). when is your interview date btw?
 
My letter was just submitted to AMCAS today. (insert side eye emoji) Anywho, does anyone have an estimate as to how long it will take Tulane to update that in my portal? Everything else has been complete since 7/15.
 
Was complete 7/13. I just got an II two days ago, so I know I don't have any major "red flags". I guess I just didn't have what they were looking for.

If you got an II I don't think you had major red flags

Edit: Just saw you were rejected pre-interview? If that's the case, sorry!

Submitted 7/21 and got an II 8/3, I am a re applicant and this was def the quickest response I've ever received. Was almost sure it was an automated rejection email and almost didn't even open it! :/
Scheduled II on November 12th!

Rejected this morning, stings a little but I have an II at one of my tops. This was a reach for me, good luck everyone! :luck:
 
Hmm weird, I instantly got the green check mark once I hit submit. Side note though I checked this thread and it seems that most IIs were given out on Mondays, Tuesday's and a couple Fridays. Mostly Mondays. Rejections seem to happen throughout the week

The FAQ says they send out IIs after committee meetings. My guess is that the committee meets on those days and sends out IIs, and individual screeners can send out rejections as they're getting through an application without having it cleared by a committee. Just a guess though.

It is cheaper to take the Airport Shuttle, $20 one way or $38 round trip to any hotel near the SOM.

If you can split a cab fare with somebody else, that can drive your price down ever further.

There is also public transportation by bus, but that is really slow, limited hours, and involves a transfer because the airport isn't really near the city. I think that option is $2, but rarely used.

3.2 GPA from Reed College (avg GPA is 3.15, school sends a letter explaining why GPA is so low). 31 MCAT... Lots of clinical volunteer and work experience with underserved populations. Honestly thought Tulane was a bit of a reach, so for anyone who doesn't think they'll get an II with a low GPA/MCAT, it is possible to sell yourself on the app! Did you get an II? Good luck!!

Just to let you all know, i did just call them to ensure i didnt have a problem w my app as i submitted on the 22nd never got an email and the communications tab doesnt say anything about being complete. They said that they had some problems w their email and that i am complete. The red exclamation next to in progress means its under review. Thought this might ease some minds!

I have had the green checkmark for almost a month and haven't heard anything back as of yet. I guess no news is good news..?
 
So just to be clear the red exclamation point means the committee is literally looking at your app as we speak?
 
I'm not sure that basing it off of complete date actually works. I saw someone who was complete on 7/30 receive an interview, so it really is completely random it seems.
