I have a question for anyone applying to Tulane (esp those who have received II's), attending Tulane, or any adcoms in general:
List any leadership positions, in clubs or organizations, you may have held during college:
One of the short essay questions on the secondary. I have never been able to hold a "leadership position" in any clubs or organizations exactly (aka president, treasurer, etc), mainly because I have generally worked 30+ hours a week while going to school full time, etc, you get the drift...anyway I have been a swim lesson instructor for a while now (at the YMCA), and though its not exactly a "leadership position", it is definitely a job that requires leadership ability (imagine trying to handle 6-10 giggling, screaming, hyper children, who can't really swim, in water; it is a nightmare if you can't be both assertive and likable). I have held this job while going to college.
Do you think I should put this as an answer to this question? Maybe explain in a similar (but more formal, of course) way that I have explained this to you all (though it says 'list' not explain)? Or would it seem as though I am grasping a straws and stretching the definition of "leadership position" too much?

Same LizzyM score, submitted 7/7, LOR 7/8, don't think I got a complete email, but online it says "application file complete" then below that "in progress"
Is it safe to say that I've been overlooked for the first few months of interviews?

How the heck would anyone even know? No, it's not safe to assume anything.
This whole process feels like a bad dating experience. I have to keep giving myself pep talks to assure myself that I'm a catch and someone will want me.
I feel confident that someone will want you considering you already have an interview 🙂
Tulane does send out rejections. So if they don't see that you are a fit for their mission and vision, you will know it soon. I just want to say that we are beyond our grades whether your Lizzy M is 78 or a 62, most medical schools want to see human-beings able, respectful, with compassion and value differences of others (ect..) It's what holistic process really means. Tulane truly follows this type of process (Personal Experience).
Congratulations, which school send the first one? Also, what date did you pick?

Thanks! Except apparently Georgetown waitlists everyone post-interview, so that doesn't offer much comfort lol!
I just called the admissions to see if I can get reasons for my rejection but they said they can't do that until the application cycle is over.
I'm so sorry... I'd see how things play out with a few more places before worrying about any red flags, unless you can think of some potential ones.
I also got UCD. I haven't picked the date yet bc I'm at work.

Argh, I'm beginning to think they hate my application so much they don't even want to look at it. It's officially been more than three weeks.

I was in the same boat as you, and I "winged" my leadership position and still got an II. I worked so much during my undergrad years. I never participated in clubs, organizations and etc.... . I have really good lab skills and I often helped my classmates and even my TA with the experiments and procedures. Is all about writing skills and how creative you are IMHO. If I were you, I would say that I had to mold my approach to each student, had to lead by example, develop new techniques to fit one specific need, came up with ideas-suggestions that made the program-classes better ....yada yada yada. The YMCA is a non-profit organization which I think is worth mentioning.
Honestly though, if a reviewer got in a fight with their spouse in the morning, how much of a chance does the first application they look at have?
Sad how that can determine our future.

I got in a fight with my spouse this morning too. Maybe I should write them an update letter so my reviewer can have some empathy 😉

My all-time favorite SDN song still comes down to a Shaggy remake of "It wasn't me" after a girl posted about her boyfriend dumping her because he found out she wanted to go to medical school.

I submitted on 7/7 and still have the red exclamation point... Hopefully by the time my reviewer gets to my app there are still interview slots!
