Recently called admissions... they said that the green check marks appear when the application materials have been received. Then, we are supposed to get an e-mail when the application is under review. I have not received an e-mail, even though my green checkmarks have been there for almost two weeks. Not sure what's going on... but it definitely looks like they are reviewing applications out of order.
 
Does anyone know how long between the under-review email and being notified of a decision?

I'm the in same situation as you! Complete on 7/15 and I got the green check mark on 7/23. Haven't received anything from them since the application complete e-mail. And no other II's, just one rejection so far from Georgetown 🙁
 
I didn't even get an application complete email, that's why I'm worried lol

That's very odd...I got a "submitted successfully" and an "your application is complete and under review" email both on the day I submitted.

Same. I took it April 18th. Still no green check mark in sight.

Something must be seriously wrong with my application. I got the Northwestern secondary and U of I secondary more than a week before anybody else on SDN, but for this one, it's taking an eon for them to get to my application. I can't imagine what's causing these discrepancies, but there must be something.

Last year they received 9500 applications. It takes a seriously long time to get to everyone. I know it may be frustrating, but they will get to you--the app cycle is confusing, frustrating, and doesn't make sense. Maybe Tulane is out of order. Maybe your application is missing something. Maybe you'll get an interview 4 months from now. We just have to be super super patient 🙂 SDN makes it hard to though..haha

I get it. It's just frustrating to realize that you can do everything right, submit early and all that. But at the end of the day, you might end up with a reviewer who takes over a month to OPEN your application, and it all goes to ****. I'm happy for everyone who got IIs and stuff, but can you see how it's slightly annoying that I had everything in three weeks before them, and my reviewer still hasn't got around to my application? I wouldn't be so frustrated if tulane wasn't one of my top choices.

Of course I get it! And it is extremely frustrating...you did do everything right, and it's a shame that maybe your app might be looked down because it's taking too long. Maybe my outlook on life is just a little different. What's done is done to me, I'm just hoping for the best possible news I can get 🙂

P.S. I bet you'll hear great news from Tulane. I'm sure your passion for the school shone through on your app. Good luck!

Tbh I'm sorry for going all Kanye West on everyone and for pretty much the rest of my schools, I have the same attitude as you. The only reason I'm going nuts for Tulane is because it's like the only school I applied to which I'm passionate about AND competitive at.
 
I submitted my app on 7/12 and my application was considered "complete" last night. Idk why it took so long because I've had all of my materials in...

I'm considering doing the same... SDN can be helpful at times, but now that most of us are complete and waiting for IIs it might be best to take a break.

Personally, I've only been getting more nervous combing through school threads--feeling like I've been passed up by some schools on the anecdotal basis of other people's IIs/completion dates/stats.

You can try Cold Turkey. That's what I use for finals.

Ok, NOW this makes sense. I've had the green check mark for about a month now and I was thinking "They've already started sending out a bunch of II's, surely I'd either get either an II or a rejection" but I haven't received an email that my app is complete and under review.

Same - nothing since the submission email on 7/7..... total silence since then
 
I have the green check by "in progress" but never got a complete email. Submitted and complete on 7/24. What does it meaaaan?

I got this too...but still have red mark online...whaaaa? But it sounds like a lot of people are having discrepancies and I only submitted a few days ago.

I have a question about this... I got the invite 7/30 and when I went to schedule my interview (moments after I got the email), the earliest available dates were in October... am I a ***** or does anyone have an explanation for this?

You got the invite today for 9/17? That's odd, when I signed up, the earliest was October 13th. lol

I got my invite on the 27th and October was the only thing open. I will be disappointed if September is still open, and we didn't see it 🙁

I am with you, I took the earliest date which was Oct. 19 which is pretty late October too!
 
I was curious as to how he got a September date but now I feel better since I'm not the only one who only saw October dates haha. 10/5 gang!
 
Anyone else have a newfound desire for the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm M-F, because that is when a med school email may show up in your inbox or when one of your app portal statuses may change? Because I do. And weekends, those are torture.

When I got my II on Friday, the earliest open spot was 11/2 and the next after that was in mid November, so I think people are just picking the earliest possible dates all around. Still, though. If they only interview ~450 people (according to MSAR), and they interview 10 each day, it seems like too many spots are gone. Even if 100% of the spots were gone, that would only be 45 days. I doubt any more than 10% of the II's have been sent out yet. They must interview a lot less than ten per day.

Yeah, I understand that interview spots get filled quickly, I just don't understand how I (and a few others) got an invite before Option7, yet they were able to choose an interview date that is a month and a half before.

Lol, Oopsie. I seriously thought that most applicants will be interviewed on the 17th. haha.
 
So N.O. is/was known as the "murder capital of the US" and currently the violent crime rate there is neck and neck with Detroit for being #1 in the country. For anyone that is familiar with the area, how large of a "safe zone" exists around the TUSOM campus? I live in Chicago and while we see more than our fair share of shootings here, they occur almost entirely within certain neighborhoods that you wouldn't really visit unless you consciously went out of your way to. Is the situation similar in New Orleans, where you can basically walk wherever you want most of the time, or do you have to be pretty careful not to cross the wrong intersection etc?

New Orleans is a strange city in that there are not really any strict "bad" or "good" neighborhoods. For instance, one block has very wealthy homes and seems safe, then 2 blocks down you feel the need to roll a stop sign... The SOM campus is Downtown however which I am less familiar with, and after living here for over 4 years, I have never ACTUALLY felt like there was a mugger coming at me, more just paranoia because I used to get all of the crime alerts around me (I went to Tulane undergrad) and I am a small female. Like any big city, you shouldn't be walking around alone at 3AM.
After all that though I still want to stay! Despite its crime, the city is fantastic.
 
I've been here for going on six years now (also grew up in detroit for reference), and I've never felt unsafe. Now, touristy places like bourbon could get kinda sketchy real quick if you wonder off the beaten path. But in general the city is very safe if you have an inch of common sense. As another user said, probably not a great idea to be walking around at 3am alone on a random street you're not familiar with.

The central business and warehouse districts (where a lot of the non-touristy bars are) is very safe. The area around the medical school itself is mostly hospitals and apartments, so there's always people around in addition to tulane/NOPD cops patrolling. There's also a 6pm-3am tulane shuttle that will take you anywhere you want to go near the school. Like any city, there are bad areas, but you'd have to try to find them.

I currently live in Chicago and used to live in Louisiana. I don't think chances are greater of being a victim of violent crime in New Orleans than they are here, and i've never felt particularly unsafe in New Orleans. I agree about the neighborhoods comment. Whereas there are virtually no shootings in river north or south loop, New Orleans safe zones don't have as well defined boundaries.
 
Question: Tulane definitely does NOT accept AP credit, right?
 
Anyone have any must try recommendations for restaurants while I am there for interview?

Just don't go right before your interview...those beignets are covered in powder and after eating them it will look like you have cocaine all over yourself 😉

It depends, I took CLEP for CHEM 135 and tested out of other math and stats classes; I don't think they care too much as long as you show that you are able to succeed in higher classes. For instance, if you took AP for Freshman Biology, they expect from you to have taken upper-biology classes (molecular Biology, Genetics, developmental biology etc...). Hope this helps.

Ok I just called and they said they "like to see" that you supplemented with additional courses but they don't have "hard" requirements or prerequisites. So I guess it's flexible.
