2015-2016 Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have already interviewed, is there something we were supposed to do with the SF-86 form when it was returned? I was under the impression they made a copy but just realized my copy is not signed even though I was told it was approved.

Keep the SF86 form handy. They check your info as an initial background check so they would be able to tell you if there were any significant factors that would affect your ability to matriculate. Those who are accepted will send the info from the SF86 again so it will be reviewed under further scrutiny.

Good luck to everyone playing the waiting game!

So has anyone been waitlisted yet? I am not sure if I should be hoping for a call or a waitlist letter at this point.

I think wait-list is the best anybody can hope for right now. And then you should hope to come off the wait-list sometimes later. I think most wait-list movement is in the Spring when applicants with multiple acceptances are forced to choose a school, but people at the top of the wait-list will probably get accepted before then.

That is what I thought may be going on at this point. Although I did interview in mid October so I may be right on the cusp. I guess I could keep my fingers crossed for a few more weeks.

I have seen people say they are wait listed for everything except Army specifically at this point. But I also haven't seen an Army acceptance recently. I think it's all waitlist now.

If Army was your first choice, then you might still have a chance for an acceptance, since I haven't heard about anybody being wait-listed for the Army yet.

someone please tell me how awesome it would be to get a phone call from Dr Saguil today... my stalking abilities told me he did that once.

hey if you have been accepted to your top choice school and know you don't want to go here, please withdraw your application! You are going to be a doctor! congratulations! please allow us the space to be your colleagues! Who's with me? YOLO... Let's make some space at USUHS...

Do the wait list letters specify where you may stand on the list (high/low priority)?

They don't. All mine really said was I was wait listed with a recommendation for acceptance by the Dean. I sent an email yesterday inquiring as to if I was in the top, middle or lower third of the list and asked how many were currently on the list, not really expecting a response until later this week or early next week. If I hear anything back I'll update.

DoDMERB site says remedial letter was sent out on the 23rd. I'm in california... do you guys think I should have received it by now? I am not even sure what to do if I don't. I haven't even heard from USUHS since my interview on 10/29....

starting to feel really nervous and down... 🙁

Doctorkitten, try not to stress it, it should be in the mail soon! Remember we just had a long holiday weekend and it's near the winter holidays so there is more mail and it's all moving a little slower than usual, give it a few days, then you could try contacting DoDMERB, or even shoot them an email now if you are really worried.

Edit to add: I interviewed 10/22 and haven't heard anything yet either, Lt Col Saguil said most of us shouldn't expect to hear anything until after the New Year

Really? so legitimately you think students are going to drop that many of their acceptances from here? it just seems like the majority of students would withdraw sooner rather than later you know? it seems impossible for a wait list to open up more than 20-30 (at MOST) spots...as there are obvious signs as to how stagnant the movement has been since the moment the class was filled in mid-October. Unlike in previous years, it seems as though the majority of applicants who already secured spots actually want to go here... and it's freaking me out! 🙁 Sorry, I realized you didn't claim to know anything about this, nor was this related to what I was freaking out about a few hours ago- but bahhh!! I am looking for someone to tell me this isn't true, and that this is exactly like previous years, and that people start withdrawing all at a specific time and that hasn't started yet and everything I am tripping about is totally unnecessary and I should stop typing now.

I'd imagine most people accept every offer they receive this early in the fight, and pare it down as time goes on. Some people will withdraw if they know for a fact they are going somewhere else, but it's very likely a minority of those accepted right now.

Supposedly the wait-list didn't move as much last year as it did in previous years, and yet 87 people were taken off the wait-list. Some people might withdraw early, but I'm pretty sure most people will start withdrawing after they've gotten acceptances from other schools, and after they've had sufficient time to think about it. Most withdrawals will probably come some time in the spring.

What are you basing this on? Did you go through all of the SDN posts for USUHS from previous years? Just count the number of people in this thread who have either said or implied that this is their first choice. How many is it? 10? 20? 30, maybe? That doesn't come close to the 172 seats available.

I am basing it on nothing... which is what I attempted to convey in my post. the only thing i think is telling is the extreme lack of movement (at least on SDN) in the past week or so. ie very few calls, emails, ii... that's all. it seemed strange to me. I am just a person freaking out.

It probably has more to do with what kind of applicants obsessively go on SDN, than it does with reality. Most SDN'ers probably applied early, went to their interviews already, and were either accepted or wait-listed already, or are just waiting for notification after their interview. It's been a while since I've seen anybody who hasn't interviewed already post anything. I wouldn't worry about it. If you've been wait-listed, you have a decent chance of getting an acceptance at USUHS (probably not so much at other schools).

Edit: There are some people who haven't interviewed who still post, but very few.

"Nothing to report, stay safe out there people"

Cue violins.

Suffice it to say, Fallout 4 has been excellent mental health therapy to keep my mind off all this madness. I highly recommend it if this process is getting you too spun up.

...I reactivated my WoW sub... /ashamed

I also started a new workout/running plan, between all that and kids it's mostly keeping my mind off this horrible waiting period filled with uncertainty... Except for the 30 times a day I check this board

ahhh posts. you are all still alive and there. feels good to see posts. and no I am not wait listed. I haven't received any mail from anyone! I fear it was lost in all the stupid coupon newspapers I get everyday in my mailbox. no remedial letter, no wait list letter. nada. am i going to be rejected because oh my shiitake mushrooms. please lord no.

DOCTORKITTEN NO DONT DO THIS TO ME I HAVE FAITH YOU TOO WILL BE WAITLISTED.... @Unexciting you ever play EQ perchance? 😳

Posting depresses me these days so unless someone asks a question I can answer I'm trying to just be patient :-/

Ahhh Glycereine, I want you to get an interview more than I want myself to get an interview. Assuming that they interview through January, like most other schools, I am wondering if they are at the point of no longer handing out interview spots.

Thanks! I want everyone to get one but I know it doesn't work that way. I wondered about being done with interview invites as well. However I think USUHS interviews through February. Good luck to both of us!

The student that hosted me, who is currently a second year, said they he interviewed in February and he was among the last to be accepted Air Force. So yea it seems that February is around when they stop interviewing

Is USUHS generally receptive to inquiries about applicant standing after interview? "receptive" as in do they tolerate it/is it not advisable? I interviewed on 10/15.

I interviewed 10/29 and am thinking that my groups files must have not gone to final review yet because I haven't heard about anything (acceptance, waitlist, hold, rejection)

I have just withdrawn my application for this year. I hope to apply again in a future cycle, but realistically do not know if it is possible. It is a decision I had to make (with a very heavy heart) in order to continue my military career. The uncertainty at this point in the cycle was forcing my current officer community into a corner with respect to my next assignment, and continuing to wait would have jeopardized not only my current career but also the ability to apply in a future year (since I require approval from my community to do so).

I wish everyone the best of luck and will still be around if anyone has questions about the military in general, or Navy specifically.

Congratulations to those who have been accepted, and I hope to see some of you in the fleet in the future.

Best wishes to all

you aren't planning to go with where ever you've been accepted?

Due to an administrative error on someone else's part it's not a possibility this year. I was 2 months early with my paperwork but it was submitted 8 days late...

Wow Glycereine, I read that with such a heavy heart. You have seriously been such a helpful member of this board and I can't thank you enough for the insight that you have given me into the process at USUHS. I hate that you have put so much into this for it to end this way.

I know that those who give up an acceptance and reapply are pretty much blacklisted, but I feel like your situation has to be taken into account if you do end up applying again. But what do I know?

I hate all of this for you.
Good luck in whatever you end up doing.

And there is no way that the error can be worked around? Especially since it is not your fault?

The spots were filled with people who's packages were submitted correctly. Even if I could get mine reviewed it would mean taking a spot from someone whose already been told they got it. That would almost feel worse.

Edit: just to be clear I did try to get it reviewed before people were notified but to no avail. I was told I can try again next year (which unfortunately I can't)

Good luck Glycereine, I hope things go better for you next cycle! You are such a huge help and a great voice of reason here.
