2015-2016 Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can assure you that I did not drive my car to Hawaii.
The original post you replied to said overseas would ship, so I can see people's confusion with your post.

Overseas orders will almost always include a car shipment unless they aren't allowed at the base there (which actually happens more often than you'd think).

My medical evaluation was (finally) completed today!

For a glimpse of the pain in the ass that this has been:

22-OCT-15 Actual date of exam
04-NOV-15 Date exam received at DoDMERB
04-NOV-15 Medical data entry
05-NOV-15 Date exam reviewed
06-NOV-15 Date letter sent - Remedial
14-DEC-15 Date exam reviewed
17-DEC-15 Date letter sent - Remedial
12-JAN-16 Date exam reviewed
14-JAN-16 Date letter sent - Remedial
22-JAN-16 Date exam reviewed
25-JAN-16 Date letter sent - Remedial
26-JAN-16 Date exam reviewed

So a few appointments and lots of faxing in documents that I had to scour the earth to find. The commissioning coordinator at school notified me that her end of the screen shows me as being medically qualified as of today. Now all that's left is to get off the wait list! 🙂

Ahhh. Congratulations! Im up to one last test and im ready to go. It has been a lengthy process for me as well. Cant wait for it to be complete!

Just got the email that I'm on the primary waitlist! I'm very excited, I just wish that I knew my ranking on the waitlist. Oh well, I'll be waiting for movement and crossing my fingers that it moves quickly.

Congrats. Interview date? And are you clear from DoDMERB?

Wooooohooooo!!! Congratulations!!!

Very late notice but rejected pre-II, had a second look and offered a shot for the EDMP2 program but since I am leaving active duty I don't think this is feasible.

Have you looked into HPSP? Still a ton of spots available for this year.

Browsing through this thread to see how the cycle at USUHS was going, read this, and got SUPER confused. Took me a minute to notice the difference in our user names!

Accepted. Interviewed mid October....waitlisted about 3 weeks ago and then heard back again this week. I will be attending another school so hopefully someone else gets the spot!

Congrats! For which branch?

Congratulations! All the success to you!

Congratulations @ebauche ! What made you decide to attend elsewhere, & Thanks for commenting that you gave your spot up, I'm sure that's keeping hope alive for those on the Army waitlist. 🙂

Army. And thank you @CosmicGenes. Things seemed to start slow but keep picking up more as the cycle has continues. Definitely didn't expect things to play out like this at all.

I can imagine! Im glad things are picking up as the cycle moves along. I interviewed in Dec 3 and cant wait to hear back. Again, congratulations on both being accepted to USUHS and the program you will be attending.

Well.... I was about to go off to sleep and was thinking that with all the recent movement by the admissions office, these upcoming weeks might be life changing for many of us. Good luck and may it all play itself for our best interest! Keep me posted, I genuinely get excited about your successes, and I like learning from the challenges that you all overcome and the decisions that you make.

Thought I should update all who care. I previously made a post stressing out about the timing of getting orders, going to officer training, going to USUHS, and how to actually move during this time. I contacted the physician education manager for the AF, and he informed me that this year they (the AF at least, hopefully other services too) are getting orders out much earlier, approximately 60-30 days prior to departure for training. This is excellent news as it allows plenty of time to move and make arrangements for TMO and actually be reimbursed or have it paid for in the first place. Hope this news is as big of a relief to some of you as it was to me.
Good luck to all those still waiting and hoping.

Hello! Thank you for the update. I have not heard back yet but if all goes well and I am accepted I will definitelly appreciate the fact that the orders are being processed much earlier! Good luck on all that is ahead for you!!!!

Did you already decline your acceptance?

Omg guys it's been too quiet! Where is everybody at?! I need more updates to keep me sane! WHY IS APRIL SO FAR AWAY?

I vote we rearrange the calendar and put April after February.

Right?! I check this like 4 times a day, somebody get accepted or something please.

Indeed!! I was feeling the same way. I check this forum pretty often hoping to see some movement and good news from everyone but, nope. Hehehe. Let me share my part... I am patiently waiting to hear back from school which is taking more than I anticipated. Also, my physician sent my last remedial documents to DoDMERB and its been three business days so im crossing my fingers in hopes that I will have my clearance before the week ends. Limbo land sucks hehehe. I cant wait for the waiting to stop

Ohh by the way... You have my vote on a calendar rearrangement!

@CosmicGenes Yeah Limbo land sucks. I really hated dealing with all the remedial crap. :| I'm happy to be medically qualified and all, but it seems as if now that I'm qualified we're not seeing any movement at all.

I check this forum far too many times daily for my own health haha. I work in research and I have a lot of time between / during centrifuge spins and incubation periods etc + management isn't giving me any extra projects because they know I may be leaving soon. = TOO MUCH DOWNTIME.

Alright guys. Who do we have to petition to get April after February?

Hey everyone,

Congrats to those that have been accepted! I haven't really been very active because I get wayyy too anxious reading through all this stuff haha I did have a couple of questions though...

I interviewed way back when on 9/24 was put on hold and haven't heard a single thing. I'm going to send a major research update this week, but I was wondering if anyone was in a similar situation? I feel like I was completely forgotten after reading that people have gotten moved on to the waitlist and even been accepted after that.

Secondly, I received an email from the "commissioning coordinator" asking for my full name... Does anyone know what this means? Unfortunately I didn't respond for like a whole month because I received it on New Year's Eve and it also went straight to my junk mail... I seriously hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot.

Any information would be greatly appreciated I'm going crazy here haha

Hi!

They require your full name as they compile a list anyone who may possibly commission this year. I'm sure you'll be fine.

As for getting off that hold status, do everything you can-- send that update/letter of interest, stay involved in activities that make you an ever better candidate and the rest is the crapshoot of med apps.

best of luck.

Similar situation here! Interviewed in October, put on hold in December, name request NYE but haven't heard anything else otherwise. This feeling of being in limbo and just waiting is terrible. Anyway, last week I sent in a LOI and also another LOR from a Doctor I work with so hopefully I'll hear something soon. If not, in the hold letter it specifically mentioned a date that they would review the file again, I'm assuming after all interviews are done and they reviewed everyone else first (I think it was mid-March). So worst case scenario maybe an update by the end of March.

I can probably find this somewhere/email someone but does anyone happen to know where to send updated transcripts to? Thanks in advance!

Does anybody know the stipulations of applying to HPSP while waiting on an acceptance for USU? I was pretty bummed to find out that once you accept HPSP and commision this may preclude you from continuing application process with USU. I am currently on primary waitlist at USU with the Navy and accepted to my state school. Hoping to have my HPSP application submitted soon. Just need to complete the phone interviews.

I did brieflly. They said this was true. If I commission for HPSP, I would no longer be eligble for USU. Does anyone know the timeline for commissioning for HPSP?

Ah, so this is almost entirely up to the recruiters you are working with, when you finish your packet, get medically cleared (separate from USUHS' medical) and when the HPSP Board convenes to determine who gets the scholarship. If anything USUHS commissioning timeline is far more strict since we have to get you to summer officer training while HPSP has no such restriction since most of the scholarship recipients go to officer training after their first year of medical school.

Great, thank for the response. Otherwise I hope everyone the best of luck. Disappointing there has been virtually no movement but hopefully people will make a decision soon and help everyone else out!

So, im hanging in there and feeing like I still have some patience and some spark left in my soul. But, this is taking longer than I thought it would. I have not heard back at all and I interviewed in early December. I am SO interested in the program, and I cant wait to hear something even if that something turns out to mean I will need to reaply. Lets see whats up to come .

same boat... haven't hear anything since Nov interview

Got feedback on why I got rejected. They said my undergrad gpa was lower than the average of matriculants but my 3.9 grad gpa enhanced that... So not sure what that means lol. And that I should have a clinical letter of rec (and I did so idk about that either)... Bummer. Seems like they dismissed my app prematurely

What was your undergrad GPA, if you don't mind?

The letter quoted is "your cumulative undergrad BCPM of 3.44 is lower than our average of 3.60. Your graduate BCPM of 3.90 the committee agreed has helped to enhance your overall GPA."

Oh well. Got accepted to other schools and got HPSP
That's a very unsatisfying explanation. There have been applicants with lower BCPM's that have gotten interviews. Other than your GPA and LOR, did they give you any other feedback?

Yeah haha. Just the typical "there was a very competitive applicant pool and we can't accept everyone" statement.

@MedMil53208 I'm not sure on the current number on the Navy waitlist, but I spoke to LtC Saguil in Dec and he said at that time there were approx 25 on the Navy Waitlist. I would anticipate the wait list max to be around 50 individuals, though.

@MedMil53208 Aside from potentially getting a seat before they're all wait-list seats, the early interview's don't matter too much because your position on the wait list is based off your strength as an applicant, not the chronological interview date.

I interviewed Oct 8th and was waitlisted and man let me tell you I wish that I had gotten a straight acceptance instead of the wait list. No idea how many people were added to the waitlist after I was waitlisted who now rank higher than me D=
