2015-2016 University of California - San Diego Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rejected as well. Complete early September.

I applied to their PRIME program as well. Does anyone know if this means an automatic rejection for their prime program too?

Pre-II rejection as well. IS, LizzyM ~71, complete 10/17.

My other rejections didn't really phase me too much, this one reallyy stings :/

Just placed on hold post-secondary. Complete mid-Nov. I guess I joined the rest of the group from today. *sigh* =\. Does anyone know if a lot of those on hold eventually get an interview?

+1, IS, LizzyM around 73-74
Hoping someone can comment on this

I looked through last years thread a bit, it looks like, from what I saw, that only a few applicants were pulled of the pre-interview hold listed and invited to interview. That being said, the pre-interview hold certainly isn't a passive rejection and I would say chances of receiving an interview off this list are about the same as your chances of receiving an interview at the begging of the cycle were.

Haha hope so! Thanks for your help 🙂

I was waitlisted for an interview last year after being put on hold. An interview did not materialize.

Unfortunately, you need to get into the MD program before being considered for PRIME! I feel that is kind of flawed and that more schools should follow after UCLA with separate applications for PRIME and CDU

I'm going to have to disagree with this on some level - I think the chance of receiving an interview is much different than the chance of receiving one at the beginning of the cycle.

They've looked at our applications and have decided to not reject us - we are already above a very large group of applicants.

I was actually really happy receiving the news - it means there's still a chance! Good luck everyone!

Just wondering, how do you know if you're on the "pre-interview hold?" An email or simply the fact that you haven't been rejected yet? And is this a school-by-school kind of thing? Basic question I know, but after submitting my secondaries, I've kept myself from being neurotic and constantly checking SDN about this kind of stuff. I'm still waiting on 20 schools and unsure how I should feel about my chances at this point in the cycle. (hopefully this isn't too general of a question and that other people would find this useful information as well)

You'll typically either get an email from the school or an update on the portal saying that you're on pre-interview hold. But yeah, it is a school by school thing. If you haven't received any word yet at all, it's hard to know what your status is. It could be that you haven't been reviewed yet.

The school will notify you and say "You're on hold".

UCSD email:

"...Applicants may be invited for an interview, placed on “hold” for an interview, or receive no further consideration for an interview.

You have been placed on “hold” for an interview. Our Committee will again review the applications of those on “hold” for an interview by late January 2016. "

Womp. I like UCLA's system too. I wasn't able to find any info on ucsd's website. Thanks for letting me know! 🙂

I was also placed on hold. I estimated the chances of receiving an II were about the same as at the beginning of the cycle because they place far more candidates on hold than the limited number of II slots they have remaining. That being said, hope that we all get offered an II. This an amazing school and SD wouldn't be a terrible place to spend 4 years...

Also rejected here a few days ago. Got the axe while flying back from an interview, so that sort of put a bit of a damper on my return trip haha

I have not heard anything. Turned in the secondary on 9/7. I cannot believe that I was not in the hold/rejection-fest last week.:xf: I so wish to hear some positive news. It will help placate all the rejections I got last week.

Got an II for MMI + PRIME yesterday.
Completed early September, LM = 71, OOS.
Much random, Too happy, So unexpected.

Placed on pre-interview hold a few days ago. They said all interview invites would be disbursed by late January. IS, complete mid-September. LizzyM <70. Not too bummed because of interviews at other UCs. Good luck to all of those hanging on!

Rejected post-interview. Not super broken up about it. Good luck yall.

Rejected. Complete early September. Oh well. This is where I went to grad school, so I guess I will get a change in scenery. 🤔

Does anyone know if there is a Facebook group of admitted students?

Haven't been able to find one. I wonder how those things get created anyway (i.e how the group mods know who is truly accepted and who is joining just cuz they want to). Perhaps some ambitious future member of our class would like to create the UCSD School of Medicine - Class of 2020 page? 😉

For those of us on hold, we'll hear back by the end of the month about a potential II, right?

Can someone tell me what days of the week they interview on? Thanks.
