2015-2016 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Submitted. It's a reach (being ranked in the top 5, its pretty much a reach for everyone), but hoping for the best.

Secondary received, verified 7/14 so there's still hope! (Although my letters didn't get sent to AMCAs until 8/18.)

Little late to this thread.

Primary verified 7/10, secondary received 8/24, OOS.

Although I have nothing to update, would it be worth it to expand on my summer research internships and publications? Both of these sections only have one liners devoted to them because I ran out of room. Should I give some descriptions or would it be more appropriate to expand on them at the interview (assuming I get one, which would be amazing)?

Elaborate now. That's literally what the additional info boxes are for

Did anyone get a secondary without having their LORs submitted? I'm waiting on a few LORs (but also was verified late, 8/20) and am curious for how long I should hold out hope...It's definitely a reach.

I got a secondary before submitting my LORs; I actually don't submit any of my LORs until I get a secondary so I can better choose which letters to assign according to the school's requirements.

It looks like this is especially true for the UCs. UCLA and Davis are harda$$ about not wanting letters until the secondary.

I was verified on 6/26, and took the MCAT for the first time in July (scores went to the school on august 18th). Is it safe to assume I've been screened out? 🙁

The way things have unfolded in these threads, the words, "safe" and "assume" just don't belong in this whole process. The way ADComms work is much more mysterious than the Good Lord! At least when you Pray to Him he listens.

UCSF... We are all waiting for your lovely IIs....

Interviews seem to have went out 9/3 last year. Don't know whether to look forward to Wednesday (which was 9/3 last year), or 9/3 on Thursday!

Wow... and we thought it hasn't even begun. Congrat!

Just received my secondary!!!!!!!

Verified 7/20, so there is hope!!

Don't know what took so long (my LizzyM is 72-74, with a relatively low GPA, so my stats might have done it), but I'm so happy! I had received UCSD's secondary ages ago, so I was surprised that UCSF hadn't sent me one yet. I'm an MSTP applicant, so make of that what you will.

Yay!

Is anyone else having an issue with the secondary, where the "Statement of Intent" page says it's incomplete, despite having filled out all the fields?

lol they're taking even longer for me. Verified 7/15 and also an MSTP applicant who got UCSD's a while ago. idek.

II yesterday at 7pm! LizzyM 73, IS. So excited, definitely a reach school!

Congrats! MS1s just started orientation on Monday - this may be why interviews started going out this week, but who knows if it's in any way related. Regardless, best of luck on your interview!

(Also, a sidenote to anyone who might be worried now/in the future about people getting IIs when they were complete after you were - I saw that happen last year and figured I was passed over for an interview, but wound up being invited ~2 weeks later. So it's not a sign that you aren't going to get one!)

Great to see a med student with love for silent hill.

Great to see a med student with love for silent hill.

I've heard of the Silent Hill series, but actually never played them! If you're referring to my user pic and/or quote, they're both from the amazing Zero Escape games - my favorite video game series of all time.

Ahhh.... Your quote is famous in Silent Hill, so I thought you may be a fan. I have never played of Zero Escape, but now, as you praised it so much, I may!

Verified late July, Secondary just received and completed!

AMCAS verified 6/29. IS. LOR uploading this week. 2nd MCAT score will post 9/22. No secondary. Congrats to all that have confirmed IIs already

Does anybody know how many acceptances vs interviews UCSF gives? Just curious.

Does anybody know how many acceptances vs interviews UCSF gives? Just curious.

Interviews are usually ~500. I've heard before that they typically accept 1/3, waitlist 1/3, and reject 1/3 - though not from official sources, so I don't know how true that is. If it's accurate, that's about 167 outright acceptances. I've also heard that about half of the waitlist is eventually accepted, so that would bring the total up to around 250 acceptances. I have down in an old excel doc that I heard the number "275" for acceptances at some point - so somewhere around those two numbers would be my semi-educated guess.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking a little more about it, I was told (multiple times) at my interview that half of us would get acceptances, so that's leaning toward the ~250 number as well.

On a related note - I don't know if you guys have this information already, but MS1s were given the following stats about the 2014-2015 cycle:
  • 7,393 applicants
  • 437 interviews
  • 153 matriculants (13 MSTP, 11 PRIME, 4 OMFS) + 16 JMP (including 4 JMP-PRIME)

Thanks for the info! Do you know if people who apply to PRIME take longer to be evaluated before an II and do the interviews occur on the same day? Or is it two separate committees that invite you to two different interviews?

I know nothing about PRIME, sorry! I'm just in the plain ol' MD program.

Does anyone with an II know how to sign up for student hosting? It's not showing up in my portal. 🙁
