2015-2016 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Even if people did, why should you care enough to comment?
Sheesh, just curious, you must not be a morning person being so aggressive at 9 AM 😛
The ellipsis was my indication that wasn't a 100% serious statement. 🙂 But objectively it was a pretty kind letter.
haha ok. Hope you have better luck with your other schools!!

Rejected just now. Completed sometime in October. Expected it but it still hurts. 🙁

OK, I'm getting nervous now. There have been several waves of rejection and interview invites, and all I have is silence from UCSF. Was complete 11/10.

Did they mean no thank you notes to just interviewers or everyone?
Interviewers strictly prohibited but general ones are okay. However nothing is read at all until May so they just say it's really unnecessary because no one cares at all

Interviewed here this week and Dean Wofsy said they just finished handing out the last interviews. So it looks like it's over for those who have not heard back yet. They interview through early March. Good luck everyone

OH and regarding decisions this is what they said. One more batch in end Jan, 2 batches each in Feb, March, April. Jan folks like me should expect March, so count the math backwards as you see fit

You're likely right that few, if any, interviews will be extended this late in the cycle at any school, but I find it interesting you seem to restate "it's over" in virtually every thread, as though you get enjoyment from it or something. Just take it easy and try to cultivate a softer touch. I'm not saying you're wrong or unjustified, but that you tend to be a tad "on the nose" if you will. I hope you enjoyed UCSF-- it's a delightful institution.

The others are speculation no doubt, but this is actually what we were told almost verbatim by the dean in the morning so take it to mean what you will. Not sure if they've sent out the last IIs yet but he very clearly said they already held the last meeting where they decided who to fill up to the March slots. Maybe you should read more carefully what I'm saying instead of assuming that I'm just doing the same thing across different threads. I'm not.

Relax. I'm not saying you're giving false information. I'm just noting a trend/theme across threads, and suggesting you use a bit more tact. As you know, the application process is stressful and a bit of bedside manner goes a long way.

Bedside manner u srs? It's not like I said people suck or anything. Ignore what I say if it bothers you so, I'm just reporting information as I received it.

Reporting information... Except those which "are speculation, no doubt" (apropos your previous post). It's not the first time you've said "it's over" and stressed people out, and others (including myself) have had to set the record straight. And yes, seriously, bedside manner.

Anyway, do as you wish; it was just a suggestion...I don't care one way or another (it's mildly annoying at best).

Happy weekend!

Then go point it out in those threads like HMS and Penn if you care so much about a premed message board. (And you obviously do care so don't pull that **** where you suddenly say you don't care and make me look like I'm the one riling up)

Don't be fronting and using a legitimate example to call out some random **** that don't matter. As you know, the admissions process is stressful enough without people having to read stupid ass arguments like the one we're having.

Whoa you seriously need to chill. It was just a suggestion after having seen it on the previous threads you mentioned. Besides, as you mentioned, I had no way of discerning between this and your previous posts. Didn't intend to rile you up, and honestly my take is more "eh, noted".

I do care about message boards in that it can seriously stress people out, especially since SDN is often seen as a reliable source of information. I myself am a bit older and prefer calling admissions offices directly, but a younger me would probably be too shy, check SDN, and be rife with anxiety upon hearing it's all over. Anyway, apologies for upsetting you. I do think this is an inappropriate forum for this discussion, so feel free to PM me if you'd like to continue the conversation, as I will likely not respond henceforth regarding this particular topic. It's Friday, crack open a beer and enjoy your success this cycle. We are all good, ok?

No one would have to chill if you never brought up a subject that didn't even matter that much, so good on you for taking your own advice first

My first post interview rejection, stings a bit, but I knew my interview didn't go so well. Wasn't meant to be.

What made you feel like it didn't go well? I'm sorry to hear that
Not sure exactly, it didn't flow very well, I got a bit tripped up over the closed file setup, and since I lived in walking distance from the school I never got myself into the right mindset that I had on previous interviews. On the positive side, UCSF was always my unspoken top choice, but I was slightly apprehensive after I left the interview becasue I just didn't feel a strong connection with the school. Maybe this sounds like I'm changing my story after the fact, but I was truely a bit worried that I would end up going there (because I wouldn't have to move/leave the city) even if I knew it wasn't the best option for me.

I totally understand. Hope you find a place that feels more than right.

I totally understand. I'm waiting to hear back, but identify with what you've said - I live nearby, too.

I'll join the party. +3.

I love SF, and UCSF is an excellent school, but having lived here my entire life (Bay Area Native), I would welcome a change of scenery. That, and the whole lousy-parking-grocery-lugging-SFMTA-battle is getting old. It would be nice to have less stress after a long day at work (even though over the years I've managed to refine my living situation into a rather nice set-up). I do think, however, SF would be great on an attending's salary (though admittedly the pay here is considerably lower relative to "less desirable" locations).

Such an amazing clinical education, what a dream tho

It's definitely a great school with obvious strengths, I'd argue there are also some weaknesses (everything has them). My impression is that the education and opportunities at the top schools is more or less "equivalent"--you're set in either case. Just my $0.02, but I've also been here for 15 years and have worked extensively with UCSF and Stanford and am itching to try something new. That said, I'm sure I'd be just as happy here too. Who knows? Juggling all this application stuff, FT work, and a "life" has been a bit exhausting and I'm looking forward to settling in and moving forward.

Placed on the alternate list, interviewed mid-December

I felt the same way! It's kind of like the universe protecting me from myself, because I know my tendency is always to choose the path of least resistance even if it's not what I think is best for me.

I actually work at UCSF and the attendings I work with lament the fact that they cannot afford property here! None of them live in the city- yikes!

I guess it depends on the specialty...Many of the docs do live in either Marin or South of the city (all very nice places where the dollar fetches a bit more space than it does in SF proper).
