2015-2016 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Oof, got the rejection today. Hope the rest of you have better luck, friends!

just a piece of advice to everyone - don't read anything into the wait time before an interview invite (or an offer of acceptance, either). It really doesn't mean anything. They read everyone's application, which means that the wait times can be long. you'll hear whenever they've made a decision. pretty sure I waited 8 weeks before I heard back about an interview when I applied.

I'm trying not to be that annoying neurotic person but if I haven't heard back from here and some other schools yet should I really hold my breath on an II? I was complete here late July and other schools late July- aug 4. I know sometimes people get II months after being complete but what are the odds?

Look at that post above. There is no correlation.

You've already completed the secondary and it's out of your hands now. Go hike a mountain or swim in the ocean.

Placed on pre-interview hold....
Oh well

Oh God(s) of Pritzker, please bless thee with status of your hallowed decision. My mortal impatience for your word inflicts great consternation and angst upon my soul.

Would any current or former students care to comment on attending Pritzker with a family?

Could anyone with a recent II tell me what date interviews are available? Like when is it full until at this point?

There were a couple of folks in my class that were married and had children either prior to starting or very shortly into the curriculum (i.e., had a kid during M1 or M2). I wasn't close with them, but they were able to make it through seemingly without much issue.

Looks like I dodged the first round of rejections. Still hoping for an interview but I won't hold my breath. A friend of mine with better stats was rejected already.

Stats are stats - they're about getting your application looked at with a close eye and showing you can handle the academics of med school. But Pritzker looks at WAY more than them, and it's really more about fit, even for the interview. And I think that probably goes for other schools as well - whoever interviews you is interested in you for reasons outside of your MCAT/GPA.

When I got my II email a few weeks ago I got way too excited and didn't read the whole thing... Just remembered some people on here were discussing sending a photo, so THANK YOU because if it weren't for you I would have completely forgotten to send one!

PS: may this serve as a reminder to all the other interviewees that you have to email a photo of yourself to Pritzker before your interview

Just rejected. Hurts a lot, was really dreaming about coming here. Oh wells.

Good luck to all of you still in the race!

Rejected today too 🙁 Best of luck to all the remaining candidates!

When were you complete? I've been complete about 8 weeks so far and have been dying to her back since UChicago is one of my top choices...

Late July? I don't remember the exact date and I don't have my laptop right now but I think it was 7/22...you can go back in the thread and find my post about when I was complete if you really wanna know but probably more trouble than it's worth at this point haha

2 months to the day from completion. Wish I hadn't gotten attached to the idea of living in the midwest again, only silence that is stressing me out.

For current students/interviewees/anyone..

Does anyone know how important the breakfast on interview day is from 8-9? For extenuating circumstances, I will not be able to get into Chicago until 6:45 the day of my interview. The breakfast is from 8-9 hosted by the multicultural group and orientation starts at 9. I will definitely be able to make it by 9, would this be ok?

You still can make it to Pritzker by 8ish if you're flying into Midway. Why not let them know you might be late to the breakfast because you'll be coming straight from the airport?

Unfortunately I could not get a flight into Midway until like 9:15...

To address point two, that is likely what I will be doing, but I wanted to see if anyone else had advice/exprience so I would be as informed as possible in doing so.

I see! Well I'm sorry that you have to do an overnight flight, and I hope that you won't miss too much of the breakfast. I haven't interviewed yet so I will let others comment on the experience.
@phuynh94 has a long description of her interview day on MDApps so you should check that out.

To me, the breakfast didn't necessarily feel optional. All of the interviewers were there, and there was a formal presentation.

Unless things have changed the breakfast truly is optional. I didn't attend the breakfast back when I interviewed.

If the information in the II indicates that it is optional, then it is optional. If there's no indication that it's optional, then I would assume that it isn't. If it's optional, then this isn't some kind of mind game where you should feel compelled to go. In the past when it definitely was optional, I can count on zero fingers where someone's decision (or not) to attend the breakfast was discussed.

They sent an email update right before my interview date that said "your interview day now starts with the breakfast at 8:00 AM" which to me strongly implied that it was no longer optional. Everyone showed up for it, too. This new update email contrasted with the II which said it was optional, so I was actually really conflicted.

If you are unsure, I don't think this is something inappropriate to ask them about, especially if you think you'll be late (they will be understanding).

They have indeed changed the interview day schedule this year to make the 8:00am breakfast part of the formal schedule. Unless you can't make it I would recommend attending! Who wouldn't want to spend some time with Dr. Vela anyway?

But if you don't attend breakfast, let me know. I would be happy to eat your bagels/fruit between lectures 🙂
