2015-2016 University of Chicago (Pritzker) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know how Pritzker prefers to receive post-interview updates? I was going to send them an email with an attached pdf....

MD/PhD applicant here, just checked my portal and says I'm on hold. I wonder what this means 🤔

And I mis-remembering something from the interview day that said we would find out about MD accepted/hold status on October 15? Or am I just making that date up out of nowhere haha

you are right - we were told that we would have an acceptance or hold status post-interview on 10/15. However, you can also get a hold status prior to that if its preinterview. Idk what the process is for md/phd

From what i've gathered, hold just means you are good enough to warrant reconsideration, but they haven't decided to give you an II/acceptance (depending on what stage of the process you're at) just yet. Chicago seems very forthright with your status as many others have received outright rejections so just hold tight.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much weight is given to the interviews here? I know some schools don't factor it into overall decisions that much, and that other schools do the opposite.

The interview is an extremely important factor in the decision making process. If you get an interview invite, the initial review committee thinks that you can both handle the academics of medical school and that (based on what's on paper) your previous experience, personality, and personal qualities would likely fit with the class. So the interview is about really figuring out if Pritzker is a good fit for you and if you are a good fit for Pritzker, which is why it is so important for us.

Can anyone give insight into the interview process? I'm just wondering how many interviews they are, who they are with, are they open/closed file, conversational/directed by questions, etc. Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been posted before!

Three interviews - 1 faculty member, 1 admissions committee member, 1 student. Open file, students don't have access to your MCAT/GPA/secondary but do get access to everything else. Everyone has their own interview style so can't really predict that aspect, but generally people are very friendly.

Can anyone share a rough template for an ITA email?

It's been 9 weeks since I've been complete and I've heard nada....should I assume that I'm on some type of hold at this point?

To alleviate your anxiety (and hopefully everyone's), the process for getting an interview invite at Pritzker is very time consuming. Everyone's application gets read in depth. In order to get an interview, multiple people will have discussed your file. Meanwhile, all these same people are working on interviewing, meetings to decide on admission for people who have already been interviewed, planning interview days, gearing up for longer term activities (revisit) etc. etc. At the time in the admissions season, those kinds of activities take up a lot more time than they did early on, so it is taking longer for you to get your answer back on interview invite or not. So please be patient. As you will hopefully see, the reason why it takes so long is one of the reasons Pritzker is so awesome - the people here REALLY care about you.

I interviewed here yesterday. The experience was phenomenal. Admissions office staff, faculty and students were incredibly engaging, interested in us interviewees and kind. My interviewers definitely read my application inside and out and asked very thoughtful and personal questions. Another thing that I found really telling was that the other interviewees were awesome! I would be so happy to be in an incoming class with all of them.

I second that.
If I don't get in I will be so sad.
What an amazing school.

Completed 8/7. Throw me a frickin bone here.

Here to bring some hope maybe. Word around Pritzker is that they are a little over halfway through screening apps and giving out interview invites. So if you haven't heard yet don't lose hope! There's still a chance.

It's really incredible to hear about the # of early apps schools received this year... What a cycle!

Would it be worthwhile to send pre-interview invite letter of interest?

Unless they have a reason to think you wouldn't accept their interview invitation or eventual acceptance offer, I wouldn't imagine it would do much. On the other hand, what do you have to lose? If you do send one, make sure it is meaningful, specific, and short.

So envious of everyone hearing back tomorrow! I interviewed a couple weeks ago, but won't hear until late December 🙁

Anyone know what time UChicago should be releasing decisions for us tomorrow?

Anyone know what time UChicago should be releasing decisions for us tomorrow?

From looking at last year's thread, It looks like they call. On the West Coast I'd say as early as 6:00 AM? Less than 15 hours and counting down!

Why is the wait so long for those who interviewed recently?

This year, they are only releasing decisions on three dates: Oct 15, Dec 21, and some date in late February that I can't remember. So, those who interviewed earlier this month are probably too close to the Oct 15 date to find out their decisions tomorrow.

I don't know! They just told us they were doing things differently this year and gave us a date in December. I just wish I'd known – I would have chosen an earlier interview!
