2015-2016 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Are there any rural track students out there willing to PM with a prospective student regarding the program?

I am a current applicant and very interested in the rural track.

Thanks!

Does your secondary payment show up under the status page once its processed ? I submitted my payment last Saturday and saw that it said 7-10 days to be received.
It must take a while. I submitted 7/29 and I still only have the status indicating that my secondary was received. Technically it's only been 9 days so I won't panic yet.

is anyone else still waiting for their application to be completed? Mine still says they are waiting for me to pay the application fee but i have the email receipt saying I paid it.

.... thought I'd had my primary sent to them on July 1st with my other schools..... turned out I forgot to add Colorado, one of my top choices.....

:boom:

Luckily you aren't too late as they didn't send secondaries until a week ago!

Oh no, I accidentally checked the "either" box for the Springs campus and left the whole essay blank! What do I do??

And now that I think about it, it wouldn't be so bad to just consider the option. But should I email them to say "whoops, I didn't mean to express interest please don't put me in Springs" or "whoops, I forgot to paste the essay in derp"? Which looks less idiotic?????

Submitted 7/30, Application status just changed to "We have received your CU Online Secondary Application payment. Your application is under review by the Admissions Committee."

Are you EDP? I was under the impression that the secondary was officially released 7/29.

I submitted and paid 8/3 and still waiting for my fee to be processed.

It was as far as I know. Maybe he read the topmost date which is when they received the application from AMCAS?

Edit: I'm an idiot. 7/26 was AMCAS date.

I received my secondary 7/29 and submitted 7/30.

My mistake.

Also, I dug through the old thread so for those wondering here are the significant dates from last cycle:

8/18: First status changes to under review.
8/27: First interview invites went out for a 9/5 interview.
10/15: First acceptances by phone for what looks like the first few rounds of interviews.

I also submitted my application on 7/30 and it is still showing that they have not received my payment. I will wait till tomorrow before emailing them about it.

I would not expect too much action on the CU front for at least this whole week. The MS1s are at Winter Park for orientation right now until tomorrow and orientation extends through the white coat ceremony on Friday. I think a lot of the Ad Comm members are here as well.

Just spoke to admissions, they say that none of the secondary fee payments have been processed but it should be done toward the end of this week with the first IIs sent out as early as the end of next week, but mostly in a month or so

If there is anything I learned about applying to Colorado last year is that you absolutely must be patient or you will stress yourself out...

Don't meet english requirements. Writing intensive classes only apply if you have a 10 or higher on your MCAT. otherwise, you must have taken designated english composition/literature courses in college (at least 6 credits worth)

@Pickle808 Is that on the website? I didn't see that on there. I was banking on writing intensive classes...

It wasn't on their website, but I received an email from the admissions office detailing their policy.
They attached this file... Read the English requirement part

sucks to find this out after the fact.. throw away $$$$ on the primary. But at this point, being $3500 in the hole just in application fees, who cares... haha

I think this has been mentioned before, but the pre-req's can be completed during the application cycle. I know many individuals, even non-trads out of school, who are enrolling in CC classes in the spring to meet several school's humanities pre-reqs. Not having a second year of english wont kill your application - you will just have to complete the course before matriculating.

Hey is Colorado sending out their secondaries in batches? I haven't received my secondary yet!

Submitted! Definitely in my top 3. I'm applying OOS from Utah.

That is always possible, I think it has to do with my MCAT. My score won't be updated until it is released next week.

Yea I would bet that has something to do it with it. Most schools wont process a primary until it's complete with MCAT scores though if you already have a score in there... I'm not sure.

Yeah....95% of the schools that I contacted said that they hold all applications that have incoming MCAT scores....U of Colorado didn't get back to me when I asked the questions.....so im assuming that no news at this point is good news as far as a decision goes.....but who knows...thats the fun part 😉

This is on my portal as of 8/10: We have received your CU Online Secondary Application payment. Your application is under review by the Admissions Committee.

When did you submit? I submitted on 7/30 and it is still saying my application fee has not been received. I emailed them today but I haven't received a reply yet.

I submitted 7/29 and mine also says that the application fee has not been received even though I got an email to confirm the fee payment.

I submitted the secondary 8/4

If you haven't got a reply yet you may have to wait until Monday, today was a busy day for the entire admissions department with the white coat ceremony and tours for the families of the class of 2019.

Does anyone know if the rural track program is specifically for working in a rural community in Colorado only? The prompt seems to specify so, but I'm a little unsure/don't live in Colorado to have much input if this is the case...?

The idea is to get more people working in rural areas specifically in Colorado but your experiences needn't be from here.

Does any current student have any opinion for an OOS applying here? Only 1 student from my state matriculated here and my stats are right on the average for Colorado. I do not have any specific ties to Colorado, I did attend a world finals competition at the Boulder campus in sixth grade......

Should I apply? Do I have a chance? I love the state Colorado in terms of climate and my interest in the actual institution is for its research. Do most OOSers have significant ties to the state?

This may sound like a stupid question but what is the "goal" of this medical school? I read their mission statement but it was very vague in my opinion. This was there missions statement:

The mission of the University of Colorado School of Medicine is to provide Colorado, the nation and the world with programs of excellence in:

  • Education - through the provision of educational programs to medical students, allied health students, graduate students and housestaff, practicing health professionals and the public at large;

  • Research - through the development of new knowledge in the basic and clinical sciences, as well as in health policy and health care education;

  • Patient Care - through state-of-the-art clinical programs which reflect the unique educational environment of the University, as well as the needs of the patients it serves; and,

  • Community Service - through sharing the School's expertise and knowledge to enhance the broader community, including our affliated institutions, other healthcare professionals, alumni and other colleagues, and citizens of the state.

Maybe this is just me, but I completed 30 secondaries and read 30 mission statements and not a single one left me with a greater understanding of what their goal was or provided me with anything about what makes them different from any other school. I think you're best bet at understanding a school is by speaking with current and former students. Every school claims they want to help create excellent doctors through research, community service, diversity and education, but you can't really tell if that is true unless you speak with someone who actually has gone though the program.

Personally, I know University of Colorado does have a pretty big focus on primary care and rural medicine, but I couldn't really elaborate on their overall goal.

I apologize if this was answered earlier but does colorado send out an application complete email? Checked the portal but it still says they're waiting on my payment which has been almost 3 weeks

They don't screen, I believe
I think CU's website indicates they do not screen but I believe during the first presentation of our orientation last week Dr. Zehnder said they did last year. Something like 7000 primary apps received and 3500 secondary apps sent out if I remember correctly, so they might.

Over a third of my class is out of state, I think many more out of state people were accepted than a third of the class but due to the high CoA many do not chose to attend.
