2015-2016 University of Colorado Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So nervous because I haven't been notified about an interview or rejection yet! I'm an in-state resident and have history doing research and volunteering at the school's health network. Had my secondary turned around within 2 weeks. Anyone know what the interview invitation status is/how many spots are even open/if they will be interviewing for much longer??
There are two interview days remaining. It is certainly possible invites are remaining but odds are understandably low.

In the interest of trying to keep the hope alive for those lovely people who didn't hear back a month after their interview, around this time last year (2/20/15), CUSOM had given out 200 offers of acceptance, with 40-60 still to go out soon. It seems that this year, there have only been just over 100 acceptances given out, so keep the faith that there are still a lot more to go out after interviews finish! 🙂

It's worth noting that AMCAS rules dictate that by March 15, every school must have issued acceptances equal to the number of students they expect to matriculate.

Not sure how to feel right now because I interviewed back in Oct. and I haven't heard a thing from the adcom. I called admissions a few weeks about to see if maybe my spam filter caught their email but was told that my status was still "pending."

Anyone have any insight on how many acceptances they will ultimately give out? I know the class is made up of about 180 students, but does that mean they might end up giving out 300+ acceptances?

I would think so....

Anybody know the number of students that receive the merit-based scholarships offered by CUSOM?

They have merit based scholarships? Is it automatic consideration upon acceptance or is there an additional application? (OOS accepted, needing some $$ help)

Very minimal. I know some OOS students may get a small scholarship and springs students also get one. There are also some diversity scholarships I am aware of. There are the school specific ones you can apply for (there should be info on the accepted student page) but again, there are not many of those. I certainly wouldn't expect anything. Your best bet is to get the FAFSA in ASAP.

Hey claduva, when do you suggest is a good time to start looking for housing? Does the school give out suggestions as the year goes on, or do we figure out ourselves?

Thanks!

Seems like the last interview day is this Friday so unfortunately the chances are pretty slim at this point.

I was told by office representative that interviews are going through the end of March

Interesting, I was just going by what other posts had suggested. Good to hear there still may be opportunities for people waiting to hear about interviews since waiting for some love from Colorado has definitely been tough

There seems to be some miscommunication because at my interview this month we were told they were going to be done interviewing this week.

Most people don't start looking until Mayish at the earliest just for roommate purposes. The school doesn't offer too many resources so you are unfortunately mostly on your own.

Unfortunately all knowledge I have been given says otherwise :/

Do most students live with roommates, or alone? Dorms vs. Apartments, Denver vs Aurora? are there statistics available?

Also, any personal insights on what works?

Thanks!

I'd say most have roommates (I live alone but will be finding a roommate for next year. There really aren't dorms so either apartments or larger groups will rent a house. I'd say a good portion live in Aurora within a mile or so. But there aren't any official statistics that I am aware of because I never even remember providing my new address to the school. Ultimately anything can work and it really depends on what you want. Some people like living with classmates while others want to have a getaway from the medical school life. Regardless, I definitely would try to save money (but realize that there are several sketchy places to avoid too). With anatomy it is nice living close because you have to come onto campus so often.

I hope this isn't too personal, but what's the reason you're opting for a roommate next year? I was planning on getting a single myself

Yeah I was told at my interview on Feb 5th that there was only one or two interview days left, and I believe all of them were before the end of February.

I apologize for my previous post about interviewing through March. I just got off the phone with a representative from the office of admissions who confirmed this Friday is the last interview day of the season. However, he did say that invitations for that round of interviews are still being sent out, so even though the interview time is less than a week away, applicants may still be invited. Otherwise, rejections go out next week. Fingers crossed!

Are the rejections for next week post or pre-interview?

Is this the portal where we can check our application status? http://somapps.ucdenver.edu/admissions/secondary/

I interviewed in October, but it doesn't mention it when I log in.
Yes, that link takes me to my application status and mentions when I interviewed. It may be worth a call to admissions, but I know the portal is not always updated and I wouldn't be too worried about it! I'm sure they haven't forgotten about you 🙂

March:
Waitlist Offers Issued
Rejections Issued
May 15th:
All accepted applicants must hold one acceptance only.
Waitlist acceptances begin
June-August:
Waitlist acceptances continue

For those interested, the admissions tracker was updated.

Admissions Tracker
Updated Feb. 3, 2016
  • Applications: 7,320
  • Interview Offers: 686
  • Admission Offers: 105
http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/medicalschool/education/Admissions/Pages/Admissions.aspx

When I check this link it says only 96 admissions offers have been extended and that the tracker was last updated Jan. 7th.

Anyone else have the same issue? I know they've extended more offers since Jan. 7th.

Yes, it looks like the took down the February update and it is stuck back at January. I was wondering the same thing, I wish there was a way to know how many seats are left.

Yeah I see the same thing when I check that link. I don't know where the OP is getting that info from. Maybe CU posted it at some point but then later rescinded it? I dunno.

I think that's what happened because I saw a new set of numbers that said updated in February but that's no longer available.

They did originally update it in February with those numbers. I'm not sure what is going on, but they seem to have put the January update back up and taken the February one down. It was at one point up, so I'm not sure what happened there...

I'll break the silence here! Ahhhhh just got the acceptance call!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations!!!! You're going to be a doctor 🙂 when did you interview?
