$14464 in Chicago seems reasonable as an upper limit for a 10-month academic year. You can find apartments for like 700-800 around campus and most people spend around 300/month on food. Factor in utilities and some extraneous spending and you can quickly get to around 14500

I figured the cost of living amount would change based on location. Like you said I'm sure living in CU is way cheaper than Chicago

Well, I've been assigned to Peoria, and $14464 is the value given to me for COL.

Does anyone know when is the last day for interviews?

How long after submitting the acceptance papers did you hear about what campus you were assigned to? I'm really hoping for Chicago!

And then I said..... "I'm still Applicant in Process since July" .....

I think that basically means the entire application is in their system, but they haven't decided whether to interview or reject just yet. I think UIC still does interviews in April?

To everyone who has set up their MyUIC portals, and has already received notification of campus placement, does your portal reflect your campus? I sent my preference card in a couple weeks ago, but have no idea if they've responded yet because the mail has been going to my parents' house, and they've been out of town for a while. However, I just logged in to my portal to look at my financial aid award, and there's a tab called "COM Chicago" with some information specific to that campus. Does that mean I've been placed at Chicago, or is that perhaps the default for everyone at first?

If you go to your award letter on the right hand side under financial aid assumptions it says site and that is where you are placed.

Has anyone had the status application is in process? Is there a difference between applicant and application?

Thanks

oh! well that clears things up, thank you! Chicago it is 🙂

I don't think that's the case. Mine says Chicago as well and I didn't even have the choice of choosing it when I sent in my card.

Sorry if I gave the wrong information. I was placed in Chicago so I thought that the award letter was indicative of site placement.

I know my assignment letter says that I have been "switched" to a new site and it's Chicago. So my guess is that everyone is initially assigned to Chicago and then you get "switched" to whatever your ultimate assignment is. Could be Chicago, could be another track.

You are required to confirm the site that you have been awarded. This occurs during your profile set-up phase. You should see a progress bar that must meet 100% by agreeing to ~5-10 prompts.

Portal>UIC Connect>Pathway to Enrollment>Admission Information

So should people who have appealed their site placement not confirm yet or...?

Wait, how do you do all that? I got an email about my financial aid award letter, but since I'm currently a nondegree student at UIUC, I didn't have to make a new UIC account. Did you get instructions on how to do this? If so, where did they come from?

Their is a link that you follow in the award email to the UIC portal. If the UIN that they provide in the email is the same as what you currently have, then I would think that you wouldn't need a new account?? Maybe they will link the two eventually? No idea.

For those of us who have yet to be accepted, just out of curiosity, what exactly is the UIC Portal? Is this where we find our checklist of tasks (immunization, etc) needed to be fulfilled before orientation?

It is similar to any other University portal. Allows you access your course schedule, finances, personal info, other important uni info, etc...Immunizations are handled by the third party Certified Profile.

As of 3/15, the class size is full in all campuses. I wonder how the turn over for this school is?

Really? Where did you find out this information? I interviewed just last week. I was told there are still seats left from faculty.

Interviewed recently lol. By law aamc has med schools fill up their class by 3/15. So now they're officially full and more. That's why I'm asking about the turnover after April 30th

Got this directly from the AAMC website:
"By March 15 of the matriculation year, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS)."

It seems they must meet the minimum requirement of at least accepting the expected number of students for their first year entering class. So with this being said, most medical schools accept 2x their class size, leaving the high probability that they are by no means "filled." Again, obviously I'm speaking with a more optimistic tone (since I'm still waiting on a decision to be made lol), but I highly doubt they are done accepting. That's just my hunch.

Do you all think ADCOM will meet today since it is the 3rd thursday of the month?

They have all their materials to be reviewed this week. Good luck!

Let's try to avoid misinformation as much as possible. The rule is that by March 15th a school has to have extended the same amount of acceptances as there are seats in the class. If a school has 100 seats, then by March 15th they must issue 100 acceptances. But if only 40 of them commit to the school, they still have the other 60 seats to fill. That's why schools hardly ever admit on a 1:1 ratio. So, Illinois must have offered ~300 acceptances by now, but who knows how many of those people will accept their offer. The fact that they're continuing to interview until now and beyond leads me to believe that they will continue accepting people for awhile. I really don't think they're in the business of wasting our time or their time.

Historically, this is the day that they meet to review. Hoping for a miracle!

This exactly. If you go back through this thread you will see members indicating that they are relinquishing their spot in favor of another school. Even though that has only happened ~5 times on here; this forum is a small subset of the UIC community, so you could argue that there are about 10-20 seats still open (if not more).

Another thing to keep in mind is that UIC does not have an exact number of spots. When I interviewed at Rush, for example, they told me their class would be exactly 136 people. UIC told me that their class will be around 300 to 330 people. So they're not as constricted to reject people as other schools. Anecdotally, I know four people who have turned UIC down (three for private IL schools, one for SIU). So I think there's still some reason to be hopeful.

Especially after the April 30th deadline, there is always a lot of movement. Once all of the schools know exactly how many people are interested in specifically attending their program the cascade of shifting students to med schools begins. MSAR says UIC has typically 60-80 waitlist positions each year, not sure what percentage of those are offered acceptances, but some schools claim to offer as many as 75 acceptances off the waitlist.

How did y'all set up your UIC portal account?

I believe it just means that the school has offered at least as many acceptances as they have seats. Basically on March 15, all waitlisted schools are able to view your other acceptances. However, most schools end up giving out ~2-2.5x more acceptances than seats so there are still probably seats left in terms of the number of acceptances they are able to give out. If anyone has further insight or needs to correct me, please do! This is just what I've gathered from other threads.

EDIT: Wow looks like a lot of ppl beat me to the answer lol. I guess I'm just a slow typer then ;o;

In other news, do you guys think the adcoms will meet today? Since it's Match Week and tomorrow's Match Day; I know that other schools tend to be slower regarding decisions around this time...

Well stated. Couldn't have said it better myself! Keep hope alive everyone.

Also if there are five Thursdays in a month, the adcom tends to meet on the fourth Thursday, rather than the third.

Ugh well so much for the luck of the Irish.

This Thursday will fall on UIUC's spring break. I don't know if that's the same for UIC or whether or not admissions staff is working on spring break.

It doesn't seem that anyone knows. Anyone wanna volunteer to call and ask? 😛

Are the committee meetings you all are asking about are to decide on interviewed applicants or is this the meeting where they decide who to send out interview invites? Or both?

I think we're all referring to deciding on interviewed applicants.

Umm..That's kind of why I'm asking the question about the turnover rate. There is no misinformation from way I have said so far. What you did is sort of the equivalent of coming up to some random dude saying "hey did you stop beating your wife yet?" Lol.
I'm asking what is the average turnover rate of students that were accepted to the school but chose another. Then I talked about how girotti specifically stated that, per aamc law, all seats are filled. No misinformation. Maybe some word choices that made you feel a sense of dread.there's a difference
