Giving it a few more refreshes before leaving work

I feel bad for posting about my email now that no one else had any news.

Don't feel bad, all information is useful. We realize that SDN is a very small sample size, and there were surely many more acceptances today. While I'm trying not to make assumptions/ jump to conclusions, I'm going to hope for our sake that your earlier interview was related to the timing... But either way you should be celebrating!!! I sure would be

I interviewed at one of the first few dates in August, likely right around when you did.

Yeah I did Aug 10, but there were some that interviewed the 3rd too. I was hoping you were before the 10th, thinking maybe they didn't get to my date yet.

🙁 Hopefully it is arbitrary and you can still get in next week.

Hey guys. Just wondering is the post-interview mixer optional?

So I'm assuming at this point that I (OOS) have been at best waitlisted.. this is my top choice school and I will be holding out hope until waitlist movement stops! Please love me UTHSCSA!

Why do you assume youve been waitlisted? Have they sent out all their acceptances to OOS so far and everyone else is waitlisted/rejected? I've only seen one person report an acceptance so far, or am I missing something?

It makes sense to me that everyone OOS who interviewed 1+ months ago would have been accepted in the first batch if they are going to be accepted. I hope that's not the case!

That makes sense, but seeing only 1 person report an acceptance makes me thing there might be more soon. Do they reject an OOS applicants quickly or are we all put on the waitlist? Does anyone have any info about when people heard last year? I interviewed in the last week of September so I'm hoping they're still reviewing my app 🙂

I am part of the group that interviewed in August and I am OOS. I doubt we are automatically wait-listed because we haven't been accepted yet. I get what you are saying but they accept a pretty low amount of OOS. So, I think it is very possible they just didn't LOVE us and want to compare us to the rest of the OOS applicants before they decide which of us to accept. I think there are plenty of OOS applicants that interviewed in August that will get in later on in the cycle without being wait-listed.

Has anyone here had any luck in sending in updates/LOIs before interview? Seems like last year they did but now that they have a new dean, things are a little different

Dr. Jones is still admissions Dean for this cycle isn't he? I would assume he would still be receptive to letters. I'm looking myself to send pre-interview letters to TX schools in the next week or so.

@navigator

No there is a new interim Dean of admissions named Dr. Otto. And "Letters do not reach the committee since all consideration is electronic through TMDSAS." (This is an exact quote from Dr.Jones when he was still the dean of admissions in July)

I also recieved another email from Dr. Jones stating this "Letters are transmitted through TMDSAS, and the committee only has access in this manner. DJJ." But as someone clarified for us on sdn, TMDSAS doesn't have a way for you to send them this information and transmit it to a specific school. In other words, UTHSCSA might be receptive to letters but only if they could reach them electronically via TMDSAS. And since TMDSAS won't send any LOI's or updates to schools, there's no way you can send one to UTHSCSA. Other Texas schools might accept them via email or snail mail though.

Thank you for your reply. is II meaning a secondary? is this for out out of state applicant?

Interview invite, there was no secondary.

In-state applicants cannot prematch until 11/15, but I imagine all interviewees received this portal to schedule their visit.

Thank you ,, it makes sense now. I I think they are still processing applications because many waited for Sep 23 MCAT

Just interviewed here less than a week ago and loved it. Still checking my email hoping for an OOS acceptance ASAP! Good luck everyone!!

Did they say if/when more OOS acceptances will be given out or any info about the process for OOSers?

Does anyone know up to when they interview? I am really wanting to interview at this school, since it is my first choice but I am afraid they'll run out of interview dates 🙁
They interview until January.

I feel that. OOS but really want to go here for various reasons. Keep your head up!

No just that OOS acceptances can be anytime now compared to the IS that will have to wait until mid November.

This is one of my top pick schools and I haven't heard anything. I live in AZ and have flown to Texas twice. Does anybody know how they might respond to an "in the area" email? I've got a third interview in about 3 weeks and I'm driving because of the cost. Flights out to Texas are really starting to add up....Could it hurt my chances?

Do they stop inviting oos applicants for interviews after 10/15?

I'm not sure if this applies to other schools, but at my A&M interview a few days ago, there were a couple of OOS people there, and the admissions staff seemed to indicate that they do continue to interview OOS applicants after October 15.

Does anyone know how many in-state pre-matches UTHSCSA sends out? I know UTH only sends out 40-50 and I was curious if UTHSCSA was about the same. I don't want to get my hopes up for November 15th :xf:

So, what happen in Nov 15th exactly?

I interviewed yesterday and was told by an MS2 that her understanding was UTHSCSA doesn't send out a lot of IS pre-matches. She didn't mention a number but she said not to get discouraged if you see people getting IS pre-matched even if on the same interview date. I am really hoping she is right!

Yup, only 50% of the class is filled by pre-match!

@Cawolf have you decided where you're going?

At my interview I remember Dr. Jones telling us that they hand out 500 acceptances (obviously some acceptancees go other places). I just couldn't remember what he said about pre-match. I wish I took more notes during that PowerPoint!

I have a couple more interviews I want to attend, as well as seeing my aid packages from the schools that accepted me. Things seem to be narrowing down, but UTHSCSA is definitely a top contender.

I wish I could help, but I didn't bother to store any information about pre-matching or matching. I will leave that to you current Texans!

I looked at last year's thread and only one person reported being accepted on October 15th and then there was nothing until January. Also, 4 or 5 people reported getting in off the wait list late spring. My hunch is that many of us OOSers won't hear back for a while.
